Alot of pace down the left side tonight, MOM Walsh was everywhere, showed blistering pace and sent in great crosses. Some good goals tonight. Youngsters did well when they came on

Walsh oozed class and was the main creator of chances.  McCart strolled through the game and looked comfortable on the ball, making room and time foe himself when needed.

This is the first time I have seen most, if not all, of the younger players and none of them looked out of place.  My young MOTM was Kieran Chalmers as he regularly broke up Forres attacks and then started ICT attacks, constant energy and not frightened to put a strong tackle in. Machado wasn’t far behind him as young MOTM. If we can hold on to these players we have a sound foundation to build a team for the future.

I was standing within earshot of JR for the second half and it was encouraging to hear him continually talking to the younger players about positioning and the positive thing was that they listened and obeyed instructions.

Todorov indicated to JR that he had cramp.

  2. Article in today's Edinburgh Evening News with an interview with Jake Mulraney.

On reading the article he doesn't seem to have a high regard for the club and the way it is run:-

He played at Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers in his teens and was released by both clubs. Dagenham & Redbridge, Stevenage and Inverness Caledonian Thistle have all been necessary stopping points on Mulraney’s route to top-flight football.

This is one of the biggest clubs in the country so it’s a big step up. No disrespect to Inverness but it’s run a lot better here. You actually feel way more like a pro here. Everything is done properly, recovery is very efficient, all that stuff.

I would have hoped that a former player would be more respectful towards his former employers even if he is correct.  Hopefully Brad is playing on the 29th and shows him who's boss.

We did really well in the first half and were the better team. We could have had a couple more, although in fairness we could also have conceded a couple. For example, just before half time, Oakley had a great chance but could not take it.

The second half was bossed by Dundee until after their second, and we were probably lucky to stay in it. Ridgers had several decent stops.

The guys dug deep and played their way back in to it, and got a deserved equaliser with Oakley capitalising on a defensive mix up. We came close a couple of times before then, particularly a Bell header that the keeper saved well, and a Polworth shot.

A great celebration from the team at that goal, and they seemed delighted with the noisy support, from all 347 of us (according to the tannoy announcer).

We largely matched Dundee and can hopefully win the replay a week on Tuesday.

Well done one and all, and I hope Trafford recovers quickly after what seemed a bad one.

Can't disagree with your comments and it was a real team performance with plenty of fight shown to get us back into the  game.  At no time did we look a team from a lower league.  Difficult to choose a man of the match as a number of players put in strong performances

Ridgers - made important saves and couldn't be faulted with the goals

McKay - great blocks and tackles

Donaldson - strolled through the game and could have had a copy of the Courier in his back pocket. Soft booking

Calder - didn't put a foot wrong. Soft booking

Doran - lasted 90 minutes and never stopped

Oakley - never stopped and caused endless problems. A deserved goal

Bell - ran himself into the ground and was thwarted by a superb save from a header

Mt Finnie ( the referee) made some baffling decisions and wasn't helped out by his assistants.  Two soft bookings for Donaldson and Calder when similar offences by Dundee players weren't treated in the same way  on a positive note after Vigurs had been deservedly booked he was mouthing off and Finnie had the common sense to go over to Gary Warren  to tell him to pipe down. After that Vigurs kept quiet but had a poor game by his standards.

  4. The pies are barely average and I now don't buy them.  When the catering contract comes round for renewal there should perhaps be a clause in it that local providers should be used and this would give money back to the local community as local businesses would be supported and would save carbon emissions by not shipping in pies etc. from Glasgow.

Perhaps we should suggest to the Board that this is an area that needs to be addressed and that a panel of supporters should be gathered with local pie suppliers invited to supply samples of their merchandise with the favourite being selected as the pie of choice for ICT.  It would possibly generate some local interest in the club and maybe we would get decent pies.  Volunteers for the tasting group should form an orderly line behind myself.

I can't believe we are discussing pies.

I’m not sure Polwarth’s ‘body language’ is much of a guide. I saw him playing aged about 14, and he had the same slightly hunched run, looked gloomy, but had a fantastic game. On the other  hand, at that age, Ryan Christie looked like an enthusiastic Labrador puppy, chasing absolutely everything.

The degree of abuse Polworth receives, must depend on where you sit. There’s a bloke near me in the main stand who shouts at him, but he shouts at several other players who he also seems to dislike.

On the other hand, he’s also generally against keeping the ball, and in favour of lumping it long - and when they do, he shouts at Baird for his ridiculous failing of being shorter than the opposing Centre Backs.

So, he shouts his opinions at most things and Polworth is just one of a long list of apparent irritants. If they can do it, players must be better off ignoring the crowd as far as possible.

I was at the game on Saturday and I think that I was sitting a few rows behind the person that you are referring to.  It was getting to the point that I was tempted to move seat but realised that I would probably still have heard him from anywhere in the ground.  "Fans" have a right to voice their opinions but when a team is lacking in confidence and struggling then it is positive comments that are needed not just abuse.  The poor crowd on Saturday just helped this person's abuse be heard by everyone as he had little to compete with.

Vigurs and Polworth get dogs abuse at games and on this forum but at the end of the day they are probably two of our most skilful players and we need them a lot more than they need the abuse that they receive.  Things aren't good within the club and it needs genuine supporters to rally round and support our players when things aren't going well on the park.

  6. I just wish he had shown as much fight on the pitch. Every time he had a misplaced pass, and there were quite a few of them, his shoulders slumped, head went down and didn’t try and win back the ball. His coat’s on a shoogly peg after this.

  7. I haven't been on the site for a few weeks, purely to maintain my sanity given the rank performances over the past few weeks, but was thinking of making an effort to go to the game against Peterhead tomorrow.  Having read through the comments on this thread and some of the others I am having serious doubts

    Today's XI

Ridgers - An utter bombscare. Didn't deal with a pass back for the first goal.

Seedorf - Got roasted by Cardle, an absolute hosing.

Elsdon - Immobile, lumbering, terrible touch and awful distribution. Hesitant in actual defending as well.

Mckay - Again, used the ball terribly, nervy and hesitant in defending.

Chalmers - Stood off for several of the goals, hit aimless balls to no-one in possession.

Mulreany - Drew a couple of fouls, including for the goal and created moments of danger but he had no end product.

Vigurs - Used the ball well and was probably our best player.

Polworth - Played centrally and was utterly anonymous, aside from getting booked.

Calder - Another practical no-show. Had zero impact.

Baird - Worked hard but looked in a different wavelength to his partner and missed chances.

Oakley - Again worked hard and had a could of decent touches but did nothing.

Robertson - Very poor. We played 4-4-2 but with two wide men and Vigurs and Polworth flat in the middle. That meant we couldn't really control the midfield and were pushed out by Nat Wedderburn.  We didn't seem to make any runs into space and were really, really static when attacking, no-one dropped off and tried to get any 2-on-1s or overlaps. This meant we had to hit long balls which didn't work and gave possession back to Dunfermline, who could then punish us by attacking our terrible defence.

Can't really disagree with your summary apart from Mulreany who seemed to be in one of his "I'm not in the mood" performances. If he he moaned less and applied himself consistently he would be an automatic pick. The defence was shambolic and easily brushed off the ball. We needed a strong defensive midfielder to help break up the Dunfermline attacks but that's another story. Wedderburn did that job well for Dunfermline.

I believe that every team needs a strong spine with a solid keeper, centre back, midfielder and striker. What have we got? A spineless team.

it's going to be a very long season.

Work permit should be fine as he has a Polish passport.  Couple of articles I found here : The first from 2012 is an interview with the player and the second (that mentions the passport) is from a couple of years ago when he got called to the Canadian squad as a replacement for an injury call-off. His CV may not be much to write home about but I kinda like the attitude and the fact that he always feels he has a point to prove and views himself as the underdog who will keep trying.

Well spotted.  You obviously have too much time on your hands.

  10. There may be the small question about getting a work permit.  I don't know all of the rules but I thought that you had to play in a percentage of your countries international games to get one automatically and I don't think his international career is good enough as his last cap was against Scotland in March this year when he came on as sub in the 94th minute. Sorry to be a pessimist.

That's kind of my impression of Vigurs as well - would put Polworth in this category as well.

Hopefully the man-management skills of Robbo will get the best out of these guys (& the rest of the team - felt that the 'people' side of RF as manager was his weakest - not that tactically he was strong either!).

I remember being at the 3-0 defeat to Accies in Jan, watching our midfield just being ran over the top off - definetly think Vigurs & Polworth, given the guidance of a good manager, are far better players than that & will be crucisl this coming season..

I was at the Hamilton debacle as well and the RF man management skills were made loud and clear in his post match interview when he said

"Some of our players have not got the bottle, they showed that today. We might have been the better side in the first half and their keeper pulled off a great save from the penalty, but some of our boys are hiding and we are in for a fight now. I told them straight, 'I can see who is bottling it, I can see who does not want to take the ball'. It is not them all - I thought Billy Mckay was excellent - but it makes it a massive game for us now on Saturday against Dundee."

I would be surprised if anyone would be motivated in a positive way least of all players like Iain Vigurs and to some extent Liam Polworth. RF can only aspire to have the man management skills of someone like JR

It wasn't great last night but it's really a glorified pre-season friendly.  It's about getting the legs working again, getting the team used to each other.  Obviously we want to qualify but it's not too important.  So no point going into despair over a 0-0 with Albion or getting too excited about a 3-0 win over Brechin.

It wasn't a great game, we struggled to threaten Stirling.  Oakley had a few decent touches and Baird worked very hard, buzzing about well, but we didn't manage to create that many chances and those we did we didn't finish well.  We were probably hampered by having to take Mulreany off early and replacing him with Chalmers clearly weakened us.  Chalmers was a trier but he's not got the threat that Mulreany has.  As someone else has said, our full backs seemed to offer the most width with Calder especially getting forward in the second half.  Warren and Mckay were mostly solid, albeit with a couple of shaky moments early from Warren.

In midfield, I thought Vigurs had a good game.  He moved the ball well and played some pretty incisive forward passes.  Draper was quiet and didn't have a huge impact on the game - if he stays he'll need to offer more than that in the Championship.  Polworth huffed and puffed and had a few efforts on goal but wasn't particularly effective.  Mulreany was quiet for the brief period he was on and then Chalmers gave it his all but doesn't really have the talent to play wide.  I though Calder was the bigger threat on the left, might've been worth swapping them over.  Zschusschen looked good when he came on - his touch was excellent and he did well with everything we offered him, which wasn't a great deal.  Once he gets used to the team I think he could give some teams problems.

Really though we lacked creativity going forward.  We didn't have anyone who really dropped off and used the ball or did anything that different up front.  It's very early days but if we are going to play 4-4-2 then we need to work out how to shape our team to create chances, how to drop into dangerous areas and stretch the opposition.  Vigurs passing was good yesterday but he's doing that from deep, we need to make a difference further forward.  If you play two strikers then you can end up just hitting them all the time rather than getting between the oppositions lines and that could be a danger for us.  We'll see how the team develops.

I was at the game as well and this report is spot-on

  13. Iain Vigurs is like marmite, you either like it or loathe it. I get the feeling that he is one of these players that needs the manager to put his arm round his shoulder and tell him he is a good player.  Last season he was played in a variety of positions and coupled with the management style of RF I can understand his inconsistent performances.  This year we have JR and his style of man management coupled with playing him in his best position will get us seeing better performances more often than last season.  Tonight against Stirling Albion he was very influential throughout the game and was one of our top players.  Please lay off the guy and I am sure he will be a key player this season

Surely we can't drop Cole after yesterday's display.  He was excellent.  I'd be inclined to keep Raven in too.

Larnell Cole was one of our top performers yesterday but Rangers will pose different problems from Hearts and the team has to be set up to nullify these yet still be threatening to the opposition. Hearts played without much/any width but Rangers will and the team selection has to take this into account.  If we are to get anything from this match we have to pick the team that can get a result and if it means dropping a player that performed well in their last game then so be it.  The team for Rangers must have the same level of energy and commitment as they showed against Hearts. Therefore no place for Vigurs in my team and Raven would also be a starter.

  15. The performance yesterday was full of energy and after witnessing the shambolic display at Hamilton it was hard to think that this was the same set of players.  It is hard to identify any players that stood out as every one gave 100%.  The defence was solid and although Hearts had a high number of shots on goal they were speculative and easily dealt with. I liked the look of Laing considering he only arrived this week as he looks mobile and slotted in well.  We flooded the midfield and crowded out Hearts whenever they had possession with Draper and Tansey showing their experience. Cole was full of industry and Mckay kept the Hearts defence busy chasing down constantly.

I think that the team that Hearts selected was in our favour as they had no wide players until Walker came on and once he did our defence started to creak a bit. The pitch is abysmal and the likes of Mulraney and Cole struggled to keep control of the ball when it was bobbling all over the place. Definitely a point gained yesterday but Rangers and Celtic will be a different proposition as they have wide players that can do a lot of damage. We will need to keep the same levels of energy and commitment and probably play a similar formation if we are to get anything from these games. I left Tynecastle feeling more optimistic than when I left New Douglas Park but that wouldn't have been hard.

I do think people should be able to express their disagreement without always being expected to argue the case. Some posts are simply out of order in one way or another and the number of negative marks allows people to gauge the strength of feeling without people needing to respond. But the red dotters should be identifiable so that they can be identified just as the poster who they are criticising can be.

One thing that is annoying about the current system is that you just see a net reputation for a post.  There is no way for anyone other than the poster to know how many positive and negative votes they got        .  For instance, a post could have 10 green and 10 red dots but with the current system you would not know that anyone had been bothered to like or dislike it at all.  I'm not sure whether option 2 would show who expressed both likes and dislikes but if it does, it would have my vote.  It would allow people to see the extent of interest in a particular post.

As someone very new to the site I think that it is helpful to show if you like or dislike a post that someone has made but if anyone dislikes a post then it would be helpful if they made a post on the site giving their counter opinion.  Giving a red dot and not giving an explanation is like being hit from behind by a bully who then runs away.

The majority of people that post on the site are adults and we should behave in a dignified and polite manner.  That's not saying we all have to agree with one another on every subject but there should never be green dotting of people we like and red dotting of people that we don't like.  As someone that doesn't know anyone else on the site I consider everyone as a friend as we all have the interests of the club at heart.  Life would be boring if we all agreed on every subject.

By the way I go for option 2.

  17. Having read the post from wynthank15 I cannot believe that such utter claptrap could be written on this site.  My work brings me into regular contact with Mental Health professionals and they would be appalled that such thinking exists in an "educated" society.  I cannot see what the correlation is between a person's wealth and their mental health as I know of many people who are wealthy but suffer various forms of mental health issues.  Mental health issues are not something that only affect poor people.

I was however, disappointed to see that no other clubs or managers seemed to be coming out in support of this initiative and it commendable that Richie Foran has given his name to it.  I would have hoped others, such as Neil Lennon, who has documented his own mental health issues would have thrown his weight behind the scheme.

Incidentally it is 1 in 4 and not 1 in 10 people that will suffer from mental health issues at some point in their lives.

  18. This is my first post on the site so please be gentle with me.  However, I have been an avid follower of the site for a couple of years.

I think that the transfer window has all the appearances of being successful in that we are signing players that have a higher pedigree than we were a couple of years ago.  Another positive is that we haven't lost players, perhaps the Aberdeen scouts have mislaid their Aberdeen/Inverness bus timetable.  I have managed to see a few of the early season games and was impressed with King, Mulraney and McNaughton.  It is a great pity that McNaughton looks like he is out for some time as I think that his experience would have benefited many of the younger players.  Some of my friends are Jambos and they are raging that King hasn't been retained and from all accounts he has been telling friends how much he is enjoying it in Inverness.  I am sure that this down to getting game time and the spirit in the dressing room.  My main point is that Larnell Cole could be a massive success.  He was very highly thought of at Man Utd and only left because Rene Meulensteen persuaded him to go to Fulham when he became manager there.  As we all know Meulensteen didn't last long there and when Felix Magath took over he ditched him as soon as he could.  Another of my friends is Man Utd daft and when I told him about Cole signing for us he couldn't believe how lucky we were as he has pace and skill.  I think that his career has probably gone off the rails following his move to Fulham and meeting Mr Magath but this is probably the right place for him to get it back on track.

We have had a poor start to the season but I think that if we stay injury and suspension free we can creep up the table into the top half of the league.
