Tuffey’s in safe hands!

  • Teaser Paragraph:

ictfc_prInverness Caledonian Thistle have signed former Partick Thistle goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey on a two year deal.

The 23 year old Northern Ireland full internationalist was a free agent after his Firhill contract expired and he sought to fulfil his aspirations to join an SPL club.

Manager Terry Butcher reveals:"I'm delighted the lad has penned a two year contract as he is certainly a talented keeper whose best is yet to come. Ryan Esson is number one at the moment but Jonny's here to put Ryan under pressure, to challenge for a place and to develop as a player.

"With Max Johnston, the 19 year old we signed from Newcastle United, we now have three very good goalkeepers, which is excellent for the squad going forward."

Terry adds:"We're running the rule over other players and we could have another couple of signings over the next week or two."

With three Republic of Ireland players currently at Caley Jags -- Richie Foran, Johnny Hayes and Adam Rooney -- Tuffey becomes their first-ever Northern Irish signing.

From Banbridge, County Down, Jonathan (Jonny) Tuffey spent three years in the Coventry City youth academy before joining Partick in May 2006. He played for Northern Ireland at under 17 and under 19 level before collecting 13 under-21 caps and in November 2008 he made his senior international debut against Hungary at Windsor Park.
