...the goal that secures ICT's SPL status?
Saw tokleyisvictorious mention on another thread "the goal that keeps us up", so, (since I'm bored), decided to start a thread to get predictions on which player will get the goal that keeps us up.
-
I like Robbo's proposal. I've always favoured a 16 team league with an expanded League Cup (seeded group stages) to compensate for lost games but the 14 game proposal might be more palatable to chairmen and is certainly a damn sight better than the split we have now.
As for how to promote/relegate to/from regional leagues, it's being done all over the world - i'm just not sure how.
I wasn't sure how that'd work either. Suppose the most obvious way is if the 30 "regional" teams are divided up on a season to season basis, so each year the teams are split into 3 regions based on location. Would probably mean every now and then a side on the "border" of 2 regions moves from one region to another, but on the whole it'd probably work.

Just quick one for you all out there here a said earlier is my thoughts on changing Scottish footbal all crticism is welcome but i reckon it would provide much needed stimulus
scottish premier league 14 teams
scottish premier league championship 10 teams
scottish regional league 1 2 and 3
promotion relegation champions from championship up bottom premier down as usual then our own
play offs 4th in championship play 3rd one off game at 3rds ground as 3rd finished higher the winner would travel to play 2nd and the winner of that would travel to second bottom of the premier league in a one off game with the winner taking its place in the spl think about it as the leagues are right now
st johnstone up falkirk down
4th dunfermline travel to3rd dundee sell out crowd say dundee win travel to partick crowd 5k plus winners travel to caley crowd 5k plus excitement would be brilliant and would give real sense of a chance to the ist div teams as even if you finish 4th you still have a slim 3 away wins required chance to get to the spl and gives all teams in the division something to play for at this moment 6 teams could make the play offs
just say premier was
celtic,rangers,hearts,dundee utd,aberdeen,hibs ,well,hamilton,st mirren,killi,caley,falkirk,st john and partick
championship dunde,livi,pars,queens,county,clyde,airdrie,morton,ayr and raith
premier teams play each other twice(26games) then split 7+7 and play home and away again (38) games same as moment and takes away the stupid thing of 20 home/away games or 18 home/away games you are guaranteed 19 home and 19 away games simple
championship would continue to play home and away twice (36 games) as would the 3 regional leagues
regional leagues would be north montrose, forfar, brechin, arbroath, cove, inverurie, elgin peterhead, fraserburgh and huntly
central east,east fife,cowdenbeath,berwick,gala,stenny,spartans,lochee,tayport,linli
thgow preston thletic
central west stirling,queens park,albion,dumbarton,annan,stranraer,pollock, killwinning,alloa,auchinlek
most have tried to apply in past but atleast we would have pyramid system all 3 league winners plus challenge cup winners would play off home and away to meet in final winners playing bottom of championship in one of game at championship teams ground and if they met championship mcriteria so many seats etc this wouls assure that only teams with a wish to improve their stadium etc could come up if a team won the challenge cup and the regional division they would proceed to play off final direct only regional teams compete for challenge cup
advantages 2 extra teams in spl more safety allowing use of more home grown talent plus more excitement to the 1st division plus we retain more full time teams and we retain the new look 3 divisions in the regional leagues allowing young managers/coaches and players opportunity to play in the senior game
what you reckon have thought about writing to spl and sfa have it all typed out
Not a bad idea, but what happens if Ross County finish bottom of the Championship and lose to Berwick in the play-off final? What regional league do Ross County go into? The North would still have it's 10 teams since no one was promoted and obviously being relegated to the Central East league defeats the purpose of a regional system.

Just looked at the fixture list on the BBC site and according to that if we win at Ibrox (optimistic, but you never know) and beat Killie Falkirk will be 4 points adrift at the bottom by the time they play next in the league - against us
-
Craig Brewster's return was initially welcomed like that of the Prodigal Son.
Particularly liked that comment. Not quite how I remember people's opinion on his return
-
Robbo, personally was disappointed not to see you take over, but as you've said all ready TB has had a good start and hopefully the right job will come up for you soon. On the Inverness job, given the tight time scale with the transfer window closing so soon after a new manager was named, did you have players lined up to come in if you had be appointed? Obviously you're not likely to mention any names on here, was just curious if you had any "done deals" on the condition of you getting the job
-
Robbo
As a striker yourself and someone who sees plenty of our games, what do you think is potentially our best strike partnership is from what you've seen of our front players?
-
My sentiments exactly...keep up people!
No full backs...or wing backs against Rangers???? We would be destroyed.
Stick to the day job!
Lucky we're playing Celtic then
-
I thought he'd predicted a win for us too. Just got the scores the wrong way round. Been changed now to a Celtic victory, so we might win
-
The one thing that could tempt someone like Smith is what has been mentioned before by other people. He'd be watched every week by the Scotland assistant manager
-
At least we have some positives from today. Came back twice, which shows the spirit is there in the squad, got goals, set pieces sounded dangerous, Vigurs, Esson and Mihadjuks in particular seemed to have good games.
First time in ages listening to a game that there was excitement involved and I actually believed we could get something after going behind
-
Can we get pics of Brew and Malky onto the match ball?
Surely that would just encourage more of the punt the ball as far as you can tactics
-
If it is true then hopefully he'll make a bigger impact than the last player to come to TCS from Gillingham. Wouldn't be much of a feat to be fair
-
All the best wherever you end up next Barry. True ICT legend. Hopefully won't be too long before you're back here at the club in another role

Message for Barry:
You have been and will always remain a legend and a real gent. You have the fans and ICT in your heart and I sincerely hope you don't leave the club feeling you could never go back. Many fans, especially on this forum, would welcome you back with open arms in any role. Be it as a player, youth coach or manager.
I for one and exteremely gutted at the decision that CB and the board have come to in releasing you. I just hope you are able to persuade the rest of the lads to continue fighting for ICT, as without them the club are surely sent back down the leagues, almost as quickly as we came up them.
For all you have done over the years at ICT, I wish you every success for the future, and THANK YOU.
Message for Brewster:
Could you please explain WTF you are doing to our club? You are the manager and the buck must fall at your feet. Your team selections baffle everyone, players and fans alike, and your actions are clearly speaking louder than words.
Why can't you see that you are killin our club? You're letting go of one of the another one of the best players to grace the turf of TCS. Wyness, Rankin and Niculae to name but a few. All players that can (and currently are for their new clubs) contributing experiance and skill to every game, and giving 100%.
It's time to resign with what little dignity you have left. Although I was not keen on your re-appontent, I supported you because I want to see my team succeed, and I am now sorry to say, you have done completely the opposite.
Message for the Board:
Take a look at the stats, the performances on the pitch and the moral of the players in the dressing room. All are the lowest any ICT fan or player has experianced, possibly ever. If you care for the club, you will seek brewsters resignation, or give him the boot. You are vastly running out of support from the fans, the very people who pay your wages.
;) :D :thumb04: :018: :015:
No point posting what I was going to. You've pretty much said it all there
-
True, he has scored a couple coming in from the left and hitting it with his right, but is it worth sacrificing natural width on either side for the sake of a couple of goals a season from that situation?
-
Another point on Jamie Duff playing out of position - I remember in his first start (I think against Hamilton) when he had a solid game and looked good, but the one big mistake he made led to the goal people were saying about showing faith in him and giving him a run to boost his confidence and get over mistake. How is being played out of position and being run ragged, due to inexperience and not being a natural right back, going to effect his confidence? Especially considering when Tokely is back he'll most likely be back on the bench again
-
It depends how it's played. If we have Cowie and Imrie pushed right up on the wings and Vigurs as attacking midfielder, then that would provide the chances for a goal hanger. At the moment though, Cowie and Imrie are cutting back to play inside with no clear attacking midfield, i.e. everything going through the centre. Pretty pointless.
Cowie and Imrie will cut back inside though because they're on the wrong side. Maybe if they were played with Cowie on the right and Imrie on the left they'd be more inclined to stay in wider positions because they'd be more comfortable on that side.
Then again, Brew knows what he's doing. It's worked a treat so far this season at home, so maybe best leaving it as it is
-
who would lyk to see leave in January? and who to arrive?
Brewster, Mourinho
First thought when I opened this thread was how quickly will someone say Brewster? Surprised I had to scroll that far to see it
Aside from Mourinho, it's pretty obvious a big, reliable central defender and some experience up front are needed
