It’s a little complicated to explain, but works well ….
After each League and Cup game, we publish a poll where we invite users who were at the game to vote for the players who they thought gave the best performances. Users choose their top 3 players and vote accordingly. The top player is awarded 5 “match points”, the next player gets 3, and their third choice gets a single point.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
After a week (when the poll is closed) we count up the match points awarded to each player (ie. the total sum of all the 1, 3, and 5 point votes they received) and award “Player of the Year Points” to the top 3 performers. The player who got the most “match points” is awarded 5 Player of the Year Points, and the next highest players receive 3pts and 1pt respectively. Player of the year points are counted up over the season and the player with the highest POY points total at the end of the season receives the CaleyThistleOnline Player of The Year trophy at the supporters’ club end of season party.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH
When the poll is closed we also count up the quantity of votes a player receives in each match irrespective of whether they are 5, 3, or 1 point votes. At the end of each month we name the player with the most individual votes over the space of that month as our “Player of the Month”. This allows ‘unsung’ players who may get loads of 1 or 3 point votes but not too many 5 pointers to be in with a shout at being Player of the Month.
