Hastings gets a call-up

Whilst Marius Niculae hopes to win back his place in Romania's national squad over the next year or two by playing for Caley Thistle, lets not forget we also have a current International player called Richard Hastings who has 43 caps for Canada and was called up to new coach Dale Mitchell's first Canadian squad for a game against Iceland next week (22nd).

Richard is the second most experienced player in the Canada squad after Spurs defender Paul Stalteri (59 caps) who is likely to captain the side and also to play alongside Richard in defence.

According to Canadian coach Dale Mitchell "You can see by looking at the squad that it is a European-based squad. It is a midweek game in Europe, so it is an ideal time to get the majority of our European-based players together. We’ll look to incorporate our North American-based players in our match against Costa Rica (at home in Toronto on 12 September)."

The 17 man squad does however contain 10 players who featured in Canadas impressive run to the semi finals of the Gold Cup - a tournament where Richard made it into the Gold Cup Best XI team - as well as two new caps who featured in the last two U20 World Cups.

According to the official ICT website, Richard had this to say about his call-up "It is just great to be back involved on the international scene and that's just down to doing my best for ICT."
