  1. .... Why aren't more people doing it then? ...

Have you seen how much the price of land has gone up , even in the last 3 years!!! It seems to me now that a decent percentage of plot buyers aren't interested in building their dream home, they are in fact profiteering from building 5 bedroom timber frame monstrosities so that their profit margin is higher when they put it up for sale ( without living in it ) on completion. That said if you can get land at a reasonable price , with services (not sure what the locality of services will be in rural Loch Ness-side ) then it'd be worth serious consideration.

  2. Don't think I have, but on the same crime/underworld theme "Layer Cake"**** is another good one, although a bit old now, nevertheless a great plot, well directed and a masterful performance by the 'new' james bond guy...can't remember his name...definitely worth a viewing!

  3. With regards to the air strikes and the carnage which has ensued , it will be viewed by the military staff as merely collateral damage and I'm sure our chief's of staff who were involved in Iraqi and Serbian air strikes will testify that these losses are a calculated risk worth taking , however the Hezbollah don't have access to the same array of weaponry and are supplied with whatever can be covertly moved to site which may be of varying degrees of suitability for that site...so when they hit back  they tend to use whatever they can to hit as hard as theycan. I don't think the Lebanese will be too enthusiastic about 'collateral' facts and figures , just as the Iraqi's and Serbs weren't.

  4. " Kung Fu Hustle " *****

Excellent kick 'em up movie with enough laughs to fill several lesser films.

Dont watch in English ( American dub ) version though - use Cantonese with English subs.

    " Bubba Ho-Tep " ***

Elvis didn't actually die, he's living in an out of the way retirement home, along with JFK - who is actually black...now they've got to deal with an ancient mummy.... - really you couldn't make it up!! Worth watching if you can find it...three stars here but depending on your take it could be one or four!

  5. They'll have to drop the name 'Open' as it's not when TW is playing even 75% of his best golf - maybe they should call it SPL,  nah , on second thoughts that's no good either - that suggests there are two people in with a chance of winning.

  6. It's interesting to see how hard-line The Israelis  ( and US ) have become very quickly for what started  with a couple of kidnapped soldiers - it would be naive to think there is no other force driving it than the initial incident and customary Middle Eastern escalation...of course there is an agenda on the table , and on the front cover it simply reads " War on Terror " which these days gives the US and it's few remaining lapdogs carte blanche with any strategic initiatives they see fit.

It also seems the Syrians are lying quite low with most of the flak ( media wise ) aimed over their heads at the Iranians...it could prove dangerous to overlook them at this stage - don't forget the Syrians have serious historical issues with the territories involved and probably wouldn't mind getting their water supplies back...bet they'd love another Arab-Israeli war.

  7. A game of chances missed I'm afraid, was it 4 chances in the first half ( two off post and one off bar ) ?. We murdered them 0-1 in the first half...the second half was pointless for us, at least Sheffield got a bit of fitness work as they ran rings around us which considering half Rossco's team were guests I didn't expect much fluidity or understanding between them and the ICT guys.

Half-time entertainment was priceless and unfortunately everything after that was an anti-climax. JR - what a fat b@st@rd - did he used to play football or something???

Another thing - was Hislop trying to prove a point out there? He was running around like a daftie clipping defenders ankles after he came on....didn't go down well with the Blades captain , and I thought he could've injured someone the way he ws carrying on.

  8. Apparently Tokely will make the Sheffield game , and depending on his training next week may be a starter against the SPL newbies.

...hope to make one friendly at least , but as i missed last years game against County i may be tempted to make them both , on two provisos - (1) the gods are kind and i don't get called out, and (2) there is enough liquid assets in the kids piggy banks to cover the second game!!  :010:

  9. So who are SOAD (  :015: ) trying to be then, Green Day without the radio friendly sound or Alice in Chains played at 78 rpm...is that the proper vocalist or some geezer off the street ? A very ordinary 'act' by any standards...just another average white band, if you'll excuse the name dropping.

You can make as much of a case for their 'music' having grand far reaching roots and influences with wonderful juxtapositions of styles and tempos etc, profound lyrics which can remove the need for a singer to hit any notes at all, but in the end when you polish a turd it's still brown and stinky.

The American 'rawk' scene must be in a bad state if that is whats on offer.

There's no point in arguing with dance monkeys who have little knowledge of music  :001: A singer (and they have 2 singers!) who doesn't hit any notes?  :015: After seeing them live I can say with some authority that I've never seen a band that were so pitch perfect (and without the need for electronic effects to force this!). But I like the fact that not everyone like's SOAD (or, indeed, most of the music I listen to). Truth is, that is the definition of it being alternative and a bit 'on the edge'. Bands that are super-polular are, by definition, bland. They haven't the luxury of offending anyone and need to produce bland music (which, ironically, I find offensive) that appeals to the lowest common denominator of music listener. Coldplay spring to mind...

I'd agree with the first point, but I do hope you have enough sense to read my posts and see that I'm not a dance monkey ( whatever that is?? ) , although I wouldn't be so full of myself to say i had a great knowledge of music , the stuff I do know comes from listening to some styles I'm maybe not keen on and being open to new sounds - and then making decisions on that basis . If truth be told I would rate Tool higher than SOAD - they seem to have more ideas, more fluency in their music...then it get lets down with the vocals...as does (IMNVHO) a lot of that style of music.

I wouldn't agree about the alternative descriptor 100% as the musical spectrum is so eclectic these days that to be truly alternative you would have to do gigs underwater or something very far 'out there' . As for ' on the edge' - theres a sharper edge on a Sgian Dubh these days.

    Are the Rolling Stones bland?

  11. In regard to all of the comments since my last post...what themann4thejob said!  :001:

Mee, seriously, give SOAD a proper listen. They are quite heavy but don't just switch off as soon as you hear the guitars. They are 'multi-layered' I think you could say. There's a lot of depth to their music and they have a very profound message in most of their songs too. Live they are something else. For instance, your average 'heavy metal' band would cover 'Sultans Of Swing' live! I admit that most rock bands are fairly mindless but SOAD (and Tool too) are not most rock bands.

What is so good about 'multi layered' guitars...it's not new , big or clever and plenty of bands have used them to thicken up a thin studio sound ( at the expense of space in the mix , usually which pinches a lot of the bass.)  ...of course they will be something else live - they dont have 8 guitar players on the stage...or do they add some guitars in through the sound desk.... I seem to recall the Bay Area's finest hashed up some albums with a very greedy mid-range guitar sandwich.

  12. basically everyone that went enjoyed it, it got 5 star reviews everywhere you looked, it was the biggest and best event ever to happen in the Highlands, brilliant for the local economy, just a shame this forum has a few sad individuals with a totally negative attitude towards it!

Ignore the Bitter Bills whatever they say dance music is huge and Rockness will be becak bigger and better next year!!

I'd have just preferred if they'd had a better selection of music. It was called 'Rockness' and I didn't notice much rock on the bill! I admit it was good for local economy, shame the music was crap  :004:

I take it then that you didn't go after you looked at the lineup and decided the music was crap...I suppose that could be expected considering you think SOAD ( Sod Off And Die??) are the greatest band in the world at the moment, (in your humble opinion) . I expect you are still a bit wet behind the ears and will surely grow out of the liking for one dimensional heavy guitar combos sooner or later . I hope you start enjoying yourself on that day .

Funny thing is , although it was called Rock-Ness , and there wasn't any 'rock' on the bill there were plenty of rockin' tunes and overall the whole place did in fact 'Rock'. :017:
