  1. I couldn't agree more. Its been obvious for a while that we would lose key players this summer and yet what has TB done? Offered pathetic deals to those we'd like to keep and decimated our youth set up by only keeping on one of the U19s. By now we should already have a mixture of experience and local youth tied down to contracts for next season, ready to be added to with the odd 'pressure free' signing throughout the summer to bolster the squad. Instead what we have is a decimated squad and a manager with a track record of panic buying duds from the lower english leagues. This summer more than ever he'll be under pressure to add numbers fast and that cant be a healthy position to be entering the transfer market.
  2. Squad decimated and a Manager with an aweful record of panic signing duds. He'll be under more pressure than ever to unearth good players and quite frankly I cant see that being possible. The decision to only keep one of our U19s seems more and more outrageous by the day. I'm going to make a prediction that 1 month into the season we'll be making the same complaints of terrible loan signings who dont care, no passion etc etc. All this when we could have been giving a couple of the young lads a chance.
  3. Stuart Parnaby? Released by Birmingham last yr then trials with Leeds and Charlton didnt work out but he could do really well in SPL. Plays at either full back or in midfield really versatile. Has Middlesbrough connections, maybe links with Chris Hogg?
  4. The point about how these lads do when they leave is an interesting one because of our location. An u19 leaving Motherwell would have the opportunity of going to numerous Div 1, 2 and 3 clubs, still full time and at a fairly high standard. As a result they can continue to improve and have a chance to progress in future. Our u19s can either go to the tinks or elgin and failing that its Highland League. Once into the Highland League its very difficult to shine. Many go there excellent players and end up also-rans within a couple of years. This perpetuates the myth that they wouldn't have made it in the first team. I personally think that given the chance many would prove to be strong first team regulars. Problem is, it would take a brave manager to take that risk. Elvis has tried it and not exactly set the world on fire so far.
  5. superteuchter hits the nail on the head, would much rather see local lads given a chance than another season of english lower league duffers. If we were signing good players at the expense of our young lads then fair enough but we aint
  6. I tend to agree that a statement about an individual being released would be pretty pointless but a more general statement from the club about our strategy signing players and bringing through youth could be expected after letting go all but one of the u19s. As its not the best PR for the club however I suspect they'll sweep it under the carpet. Another point worth making here. Its fair to say that the u19 team carries alot of passengers and its very difficult for the better players to shine and prove their worth. On the odd occassion we've seen the likes of chubbs, martin laing and liam polworth mix with the 1st team (NoS cup final for example) they have been excellent. These opportunities are too few and far between imo
  7. It is unbelievable. With the proposed u20 league next season we are looking very thin on the ground and will end up playing most of the younger u19s who will undoubtedly struggle. With all of the current turmoil in scottish fitba, now more than ever is the time to give youth a chance. High wages for players who dont really want to be here is a dangerous game if we are to lose Rangers cash etc. I would have expected Greig, Sutherland and Dingwall to have been kept on and I bet the combined cost to the club would be less than taking a winnall or knakpa which would make it well worth a punt. Also, congrats to Martin Laing from what I've seen he's been really solid and puts in a huge effort every game. Might not be as gifted as a couple of those mentioned above but he's tidy, a real grafter and gives 100% so good luck to him, hope he can break through into 1st team asap
  8. Im not sure what an official response would add as I think actions say it all in this case. The release of a young lad (especially local) is a real shame but its what this says about us as a club and the direction we are going in future that concerns me more. Anyone who has seen much of Chubbs in friendlys, u19s, NoS cup games etc will know he is a ‘proper’ footballer. Attack minded, quick, loves to take on a full back, plays on the deck etc. However, at 5 ft 3ish he is’nt good in the air and can go missing in games when its lumped long. My fear is that his release says alot about TB’s approach and is a statement from him about the type of football we can expect in future.
  9. I agree that there is a big gulf between u19s and first team and there is no guarantee that these boys would break through. Again using Chubbs as an example there have been times this season when he's maybe been inconsistent (Celtic home springs to mind) but he's equally been unplayable at times. If we were signing superstars I would have no problem with our youngsters being overlooked. The fact is, we are not. Instead we sign average players who's only motivation is to secure a better move elsewhere. I've never felt less connected to a team than this season and I can only see that continuing if we continue with this 'strategy' of short term panic loan deals instead of home grown youth. Surely if given a chance the likes of Dale Gillespie would have performed better this season than some of the duds we've been subjected to. If this doesn't change we'll be here in two years time watching League 1 failures that Chubbs etc would run circles round.
  10. Assuming he has made a full recovery as seems to be the case, it would seem crazy to release him on the basis that he may have niggles in future. I heard the club also paid for his treatment which seems a strange thing to do only to release him a few months later when seemingly fully fit. Having been to most U19 home games this season its fair to say the form of the team improved dramatically with him in it. The results and performances during his time out injured were very poor and yet the improvement when he came back towards the end of the season was almost instant. Whether it was his potential for future injury or not, the worrying thing here is the bigger picture. We have sat through some dire performances all season, served up by over-rated loanees without a care for the club. We then release a home grown youngster with great pace, ability and potential who would at least get the crowd on their feet and show some passion. I for one would much rather see the likes of Chubbs given a chance than suffer another season of Knakpa's, Winnall's, Aldred's etc who come here as a last resort, show no desire to be here then bomb down the A9 at the first opportunity.
  11. have seen him several times this season and he looked a really good prospect so surprised to see him released. The shoulder dislocation is surely a one off injury and he seemed to have come back from it strongly at the end of the season. a real shame for the lad as he seemingly has a good attitude etc. hope he can bounce back
