Very solid, thoughtful posts in this thread. And not hysterical or vituperative, thank goodness.

Richie's contract will also be solid  so why litigation would necessarily be long-winded or protracted is an open question and very undesirable too. If he is to stay at Caley Thistle then the other staff had better make the best of it and establish a good working relationship without holding grudges-after all he probably did try do his best and it's important that all staff are on good terms and try to get along for the good of the club and each others' future too.

The club should, and probably will, be anxious to meet reasonable terms for dismissal but more likely, IMHO, they will  try to offer him another position within the club as an assistant to a much more experienced manager. That way, face is saved and also he will gain experience  as to how other, more successful, folks manage more effectively.

With Kenny gone,  how will the other Board Members fare as to the making of decisions do you all think? Will they be rational and cautious or knee jerking decisions?

David Moyes is shattered and is unlikely now to get another Premier League job, according to the article I read. So he won't need an assistant. He did very well financially out of past moves he has made and is not short of a pound apparently. That Northern team that sacked him will owe him a lot of money and a previous berth he also had before that will continue paying him as well. Not bad for a guy who simply has not been able to cut the mustard eh?

All I can say is  "let's turn over a new leaf, start anew and hope for the very best through unity, respect and passion.:ictscarf:

How about CC as general manager/director of football and RF can run the Centenary Club. Not being totally serious with that, but it's the sort of thing the club would do!

RF needs to go, I suspect he is losing/lost the dressing room (or some of it anyway) with his comments-particularly the 'bad apples' one..think I read that Fisher said something along the lines of 'I don't see any bad apples, just a group of hard working lads' - not a word for word quote, think I read it online from one of the newspapers.

Whoever made the comment about RF trying to emulate TB's style was spot on, I think..need a change of style & I suspect the new manager might be a left field choice.

Hartley - possibly, although if he was that good, he would have got the job before.

Machine Dods - good choice, but may not have the contacts re finding players. Done very well at Brechin.

Anyone know what Paul Sheerin's doing? Was at Arbroath, I think?

Has Claudio Ranieri got a job yet - could do a Leicester with us and win the Premiership season 18/19!! (Time to lay off the absinthe now...)

We are where we are and we have to accept that.

I didn't mean all of them, but we are in the Championship and Premiership 'cast offs' are probably our level at present.

Nothing wrong with 'premiership cast-offs' - my take on that would be players who are hungry & have a point to prove. Dennis Wyness a good example of a 'premiership cast-off (Aberdeen), he worked out not too bad!

Need to get the Managerial situation sorted out asap though, to get on with building a squad!! Have a feeling RF may still be involved at some level...but that's on a different thread!

Wonder if any of the three (possibly five) Ross County players released are potential recruits?

Paul Quinn probably the best of the bunch as he is a decent enough defender.

Paul Quinn is definetly worth considering, didn't realise RC had released him. Decent player who would probably still be a Don if not for family reasons-wouldn't have the usual issue of 'attracting players to move up to Inverness' & as for 'County cast offs'? Afraid we will be playing at a lower level than the mob from the other side of the bridge now, like it or not!

Hugely encouraged by that quote from Fisher - I would love him to stay but wouldn't blame him if he didn't. Wouldn't give up on Draper either..again, who would blame him if he left?

Believe Vigurs has stated previously he would stay if we went down (recent Caleyjags tv pre match interview), if previous comment about Tremarco staying is true, that's great news too - a combatitive hard working plater willing to make tackles would be vital for the Championship.

Have hopes that Ebbe may be decent at this level-always a big ask stepping up from part time football. Mulraney worth keeping too-certainly playing in the Championship will toughen him up (although think he's better at riding tackles than before) & he's not the finished article-if he can learn to pass/cross,he'd be deadly!

As for Boden...well!!!  Who knows, may not be a dud!

Would keep McNaughton if we can, although wages may be an issue-great experience but worth breaking the bank for?

Pretty much agree with the rest of the comments re who we keep/punt

Having said that...I've not been to Brechin either

I've always had an ambition to go to Cappielow - just want to see if it's as 'atmospheric' as I've heard....my Sister in Law stays in Brechin,so that's 2 away trips sorted out (if Brechin get promoted)!

As I've said on another forum it's Foran with Malpas as no.2 next season.

I reckon that will be the case too-who knows! Suggested Barry Smith on another thread-working part time at east fife just now,did a decent job getting dundee promoted,I seem to remember.

Definetly NOT McGhee-or Butcher! Wouldn't mind Hartley...will have a point to prove after being given the boot by dundee. Noticed big Darren Dods is doing well at Brechin-big step up from part time though.

Don't see the point of whinging at this point. Richie is here till the end of the season. Whether or not you think he's up to the job - at the end of the day he's just a young man doing a job to the best of his ability, and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

Let's just get behind the team for the next 2 games and leave the inquisition for another day.

PS Alan Simpson - it's just a game!

Couldn't agree more - we are heading down anyway (bar a minor miracle) so lets just get to the end of a disastrous season & take stock then. Just need to get behind the team now.

What was wrong with the way Mo left? He came in as assistant to Butcher. When Butcher was under contract and sitting in the stand beside the Hibs chairman, Mo was in the Inverness dugout doing his best to get a win against Hibs. He then left without any fuss to the same position at Hibs. I see nothing wrong with that.

I'd have no problem with Charlie as manager as I thought he did pretty well first time around. However, I'd be even happier with him as Director of Football charged with complete control over the restructuring of the club.

I wouldn't like to see him back but I certainly wouldn't say Butcher failed at Motherwell. A dodgy start but soon on to winning ways. I also think he did pretty well at Coventry - a club selling all its' best players, signing almost no-one but still being kept in the (then) First Division. He was sacked as another cost-cutting measure as they could get rid of both a player and a manager salary in one stroke.

If it had been Xmas, I would have suggested someone like Jim Duffy but there's no way he would come now. I'd still go for Paul Hartley, who was terrific for most of his time at Dundee. Yep, it ended badly but so has Arsene Wenger. You've got to realise ICT's limits and what a manager could bring, even if he's not not perfect.

But then, when you consider the appointments...

    • Butcher: fans not happy
    • Hughes: fans not happy
    • Foran: fans happy

Not absolutely sure we should be allowed to choose

How about Barry Smith? Working part time at East Fife & managed to get Dundee promoted? Certainly wouldn't be against Charlie as DofF, didn't disagree with his recent comments, kniws the club inside out & we did play good football when he was the gaffer.

Paul Hartley I would welcome with open arms too, although there was a rumour that he was offered  the job last time & knocked it back (probably a load of guff though) & Yogi was appointed..

No point in hashing over previous poor decisions-hindsight is a wonderful thing! I remember being glad when Dundee Utd were rebuffed for Yogi - hindsight? Wrong decision!

  8. A bit concerned as to what sort of a squad we will have next season..not sure how many of the current squad will be here..

Goalkeeper-not sure if OFW will be here, maybe cammy mackay? Esson has not been convincing lately & must be considering retiring to coach full time..

Defence - can see raven & warren being here, hopefully tremarco will be around. Probably brad mckay too. Would be great if mcnaughton signs on but not sure if he would (or the club could afford to). Also horner might be around (pending other issues of course....). Not sure if celtic would loan out mccart again. Laing would be worth signing if we have the cash too.

Midfield - finding a replacement for tansey - not easy but a priority! Should have vigurs, polworth & , hopefully, draper. And mulraney, of course. Hopefully doran will be back from injury as well.

Strikers - sign fisher up!! We might have just fisher & boden next season (who knows). Maybe time for ebbe to make a mark?

Worried, as last time we went down, we had a good base to build from (rooney, hayes, etc) - not convinced we have the knowhow to build a team like that again, or the management (but thats another topic...!). Hopefully there are some gems in the youth squad (that will probably end up playing for elgin when we let them go..). Or some loan deals as well?

It's good to see that we've finally seemed to have made red and blue stripes our 'thing'.  Don't mind the white collar but it'd be nice to have little more black in the kit.  A black stripe down the side instead of the white one would've looked a bit better IMO.

Definetly-red white & blue is reminiscent of a certain other team..glad we have kept the stripes though. Hate the collar though, have never figured out WHY football tops need a collar anyway!

I think I'm the only person who likes the current away top-nice simple collar & I like the plain 'vanilla' shade, classy (unlike some of the team performance...).

Personal favourite is the plain black/red trim top we had several years ago (the one that they put the fans names on..will wear it next Sat for luck!)- did cost me £100, mind!

Brian Rice is contracted to summer 2018.

Is he? Hope not! Think if the board need to bite the bullet & pay BR off then - unless Yogi takes him to Raith Rovers (which would have happened by now, I suppose, if it was on the cards). Time for RF to assert himself & tell the board if he wants MM to be his assistant!

  11. 14 hours ago, bdu98196 said:

Who knows the reasons, perhaps with Rice being out of contract in the summer he may be offski and perhaps MM has always been earmarked by RF as his assistant so was going to be coming in anyway. I'm not exactly a fan of RF as manager, the rest of the management team and their contribution or even the board and their handling of this - my posts indicate as much but being pragmatic we need to improve and clearly the management we have cant get our defence organised so perhaps bringing in a 3rd party with experience and knowledge of the players may work - at this stage we have little to loose, not like we can fall any further.

My thoughts too - it's not that I dislike RF as manager, I just don't think he has the experience (he has said as much himself, I think) & MM might just be that experienced hand that RF needs, given that they know each other well & it's obvious that RF has a lot of time & respect for MM. Think RF/MM could be a decent management team next season, whatever happens (will take a minor miracle if we are a premier league team, but there is still hope..not much, but it's there...)!

If BR only has a contract until end of this season, think I would just pay him remainder of his wages & let him look after his garden for next few weeks...

    • Agree 2
  12. Personally,I think it's a great appointment..well respected coach & good backup for RF. I've never been convinced by BR as assistant manager & MM is someone that RF knows well & worked with before. Wouldn't be suprised to see MM as assistant to RF next season, whatever happens, particularly if BR is out of contract end of this season. Also, MM will hopefully help tighten up the defence-would help if we didn't keep losing soft goals! Not a 'magic bullet' but a shrewd appointment.

Think we need to back the team just niw, as opposed to torchlight protests - although the concerns/complaints are legitimate ones..
