I think it's more the case that under SFA (or is it SPFL?) rules, Newman can't now play for another team until the new year. The challenge will be more to the authorities - Checking whether the rule will still be applied given it was entirely outwith the player's control.

Sending emails after they knew press offices were closed and not using the on-call phone numbers instead was another one they liked. The only paper to do it.
