  2. CTO Player of the YearOscar MacIntyre Oscar has had a great season with us since signing from Hibs and has been a favourite with the fans. He has scored 1 goal for the club in our 3-3 draw with Partick Thistle in the KDM Trophy (which we won on penalties) and picked up 5 yellow cards, in 37 appearances for the club. Starting the season well he was then rotated with Mitchell Robertson, but was picking up votes in most games he played throughout the season. Although he did not start on Saturday he came on as a sub for Danny Devine, no votes came his way but he had enough to win.CONGRATULATIONS OSCAR Player of the Year 2025-2026 Oscar MacIntyre 62 points Alfie Stewart 57 points Calum MacLeod 55 points Remi savage 43 points Paul Allan 32 Points David Wotherspoon 28 points Monthly Winners. I along with many other fans hope he will sign on with the club for next season, including young Finlay MacLellan who picked up his autograph earlier in the season. Thanks again for all your votes throughout the season and hope to keep it going in the next one. CTO also thank IBM for all his hard work in keeping the PotY polls running throughout every season. It's an interactive poll on CTO as fans post their own opinions on player performances (5-3-1 points) which gets totted up to determine who gets this accolade, and this year Oscar is your Man!
  3. 🏆 League1 Champions 🏆 The Caley Jags are off to the Championship after beating Hamilton Accies 2-1 in front of over 5000 raucous fans at the Caledonian Stadium. An early strike from Captain Danny Devine in the third minute settled the nerves and an absolute club legend Billy Mckay added a second before half an hour to up the volume in the stadium. I spoke to Billy at East Fife and he assured me they would get the job done this week. What a legend. Accies scored a late goal through Kevin O'Hara and we had an extra late drama when they were awarded a penalty. However Ross Munro pulled off a tremendous diving save to deny Oli Shaw and that was the cue for an enthusiastic but premature pitch invasion. About fifteen minutes later the game resumed for a handful of seconds before referee Chris Graham called a halt and the real pitch invasion started. Credit to Stenhousemuir for giving it a real go all season, good luck in the play-offs. Full report and match reaction tomorrow. We have some celebrating to do now. 🍺 The Main Stand and the North Stand were packed out as the the teams took to the pitch for hopefully the final time this season. Would we take the game to Accies or would we play a cagey game like we did at East Fife the previous week? That question would be answered in the third minute when Captain Danny Devine crashed Paul Allan's corner kick high into the net in front of the Hamilton fans to set the scene for the afternoon with the home fans loving this early advantage. Inverness were in control of the early stages with the bulk of the game being played in the Accies third of the pitch with MacKinnon and Wotherspoon prominent and Billy Mckay rolling back the years as he buzzed around the front line. Alfie Bavidge was also running the channels and using his pace to good effect. Accies were restricted to shooting from range, not necessarily on target with Ross Munro idle for the most part. The pressure was mounting on the visitors with a number of blocked efforts keeping the score down, but nobody was on hand to stop club legend Billy Mckay scoring after great work on the left side through Wotherspoon and Mitchell Robertson whose cross into the box was finished by Billy, his 132nd goal for this club. That ramped up the volume in the stands, however we all held our breath when the ball got stuck under Devine's feet as he tried to get the ball back to Munro. Thankfully the keeper managed to get to the ball in the nick of time to dribble his way out of danger and keep us two ahead at the break. Alas Danny's game was over before the break as he was unable to continue after an earlier knock and he limped off to be replaced by Oscar MacIntyre with Robertson moving inside to centre back. HALF TIME: 2-0 Accies looked sharper after a torrid first half and pressed Inverness higher up the park without really troubling Munro. We blocked a couple of attempts in the first few minutes of the second half as we seemed content to hold what we had and in truth, the game lost it's sparkle and deteriorated into a dire midfield battle. Ross Millen had an effort saved before the substitutes flowed from both sides. We did force four corners in quick succession but it ended with the ball holding up in the breeze and going behind. Millen hit a fierce shot just wide as we looked to kill off the game and the best chance of the second half saw Alfie Stewart head wide after a great ball in from the left. The game was untidy over the final fifteen minutes but there was late drama when Kevin O'Hara scored after we conceded one too many free kicks allowing Accies to get the ball into our box all too often for my liking. Ahh well, so be it. However, there was further drama when we were all waiting for the final whistle to blow. Millen was adjudged to have tripped Oli Shaw who took the spot kick himself. As befits champions, Ross Munro pulled off a great save to his right and that triggered a spontaneous pitch invasion from the over eager young team. It took a while to clear a thousand or so from the playing surface before the game restarted. It was barely worth restarting and the game was brought to a halt seconds later to start invasion number two, this time in earnest as jubilant fans celebrated on the park with players. FULL TIME: 2-1 It's been a long season, coming from five points behind as we set out to win the title. Thirty-six League1 games later and add on four League Cup ties, two Scottish Cup ties and eleven KDM trophy games, it's been quite a journey. Not to mention seven pre-season encounters and a testimonial plus three North of Scotland Cup ties then it really has been a wonderful season after all the trauma we have come through under our previous failed regime. Think that is 64 games negotiated and Previewed and Reported here on CTO. Statue for Savage incoming. Well done to everyone concerned at the club and to the fanbase for producing a brilliant atmosphere throughout our season, especially in the final game. The Supporters Bus organisers, the Wyness Shuffle podcasters, and a massive well done to George Moodie and Supporters Trust for the huge improvements in the matchday experience. No doubt I've missed some out, apologies for that, but a huge thanks on here to Scotty for keeping this site going and to IBM for keeping all the stats up to date. There's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes on CTO and it really is much appreciated. 4. It's not how we imagined it Well, it's the scenario that no Caley Jags fan wanted. If we could have chosen one team to stroke off our last game of the season title deciding clash, Hamilton Accies would probably be the peoples choice. It doesn't bother me that we have had previous with Accies over the years regarding relegation, it's the fact that they are the form team in the league on three wins on the bounce and if you remove their 21 point deduction, they would be sitting third in the table on merit. Add in the factor that Accies need at least one point, dependant on another result, to have any hope of avoiding the relegation play-off but a better option for Accies is going for all three points. We are also well aware that they have top strikers in Oli Shaw and Kevin O'Hara and they are the third top scorers in the league with 53 goals behind us and Queen of the South. The other major stumbling block is our own form. We are hell bent on drawing our way to the title with four draws over the last six which has included playing teams in the relegation zone. Whilst we are unbeaten in the League over 17 games we could have been out of site long before now. Instead of that we have turned wins into draws and are paying the price for our failure to kill games off when well on top. That price is no finger nails left and confidence draining away from the park to the stands. Here's a thought to cheer us up. Our last defeat was 18 games ago when we lost 2-1 at Montrose. On Saturday Stenhousemuir visit Montrose looking to win the title Apart from all that we have nothing to worry about! Of the three previous meetings this season: We were blown away 3-1 at NDP on a miserable day during Storm Amy in October: Accies blew Inverness away with Amy spoiling our day. Goals from O'Hara, McDonald and Shaw were enough to win the three points and send Accies to the top of the table. Bavidge scored our counter but we dropped to third with Stenhousemuir second. We exacted revenge back in the Highlands before Xmas with a 4-0 thrashing of Accies. It was a convincing win for the table toppers with goals from Mitchell Robertson, Chanka Zimba, his 13th of the season, substitutes Alfie Bavidge and Billy Mckay. Boom! In the last meeting away at Broadwood an Alfie Bavidge goal separated the sides in a scrappy affair. At that stage, the Caley Jags moved 5 points ahead after beating Accies 1-0 thanks to Alfie Bavidge's first half header. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Bar94/Bus/Info Bring a Friend for a £5 - u12 £1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This was our squad that struggled on the artificial surface at Bayview. It took a brilliant strike from Billy Mckay to rescue a point in the 89th minute after Michael McKenna had given the Fifer's the lead shortly after the interval. That was goal No 131 for Billy and could prove to be his most crucial strike yet. Last Six League1: D D D W W D Liam Sole has been struggling with a calf injury and has missed out recently. We badly need his pace up front in an attacking manner. Bar 94 will open at 1200, with last orders at 1430 (the bar must be fully vacated by 1445). The bar reopens at full time, when expect to be joined by some of the players. Operated by Stagecoach, buses will leave the Bus Station for the Stadium at 1245 and 1415. Buses return from the Stadium to the Bus Station 10 minutes after the full time whistle and at 1800. The bus fare is £2 single (contactless payments or cash accepted), and Over 60 / Disabled and Under 22 Concession passes are valid, giving free travel on the service to passholders. Why not come down early, make a day of it, and wait to see the players after full time? Accies are on a three game winning streak as they try to escape the relegation zone. To be honest it would be an unbelievable achievement should they escape after a 21 point deduction for gross mismanagement. We all know how that feels. Last Six League1: D L L W W W Accies drew 2-2 at Cove before losing the next two at home to Kelty (1-2) and a 3-0 loss at Stenhousemuir. They have since made a sprint for the finishing line beating Alloa 1-0, Montrose 0-2 and last time out beating Peterhead 3-1. Those results have taken them close to safety and they sit one point below East Fife and three points below Cove Rangers but with a much better GD than both. All to play for at the bottom but it depends on the result at Cove v East Fife to determine their destiny combined with a result at Inverness other than a defeat. Oli Shaw has scored three times over the last six games. He is the leading scorer in League1 with 19 goals. In comparison our best League scorers this season is Chanka Zimba with 11 and Alfie Bavidge with 10. Steven Bradley will need rehab after picking up an injury at Montrose. It will be some achievement should Accies avoid relegation, but to do that they need to not lose which is not in our best interest. 5. Champagne on Ice A sold out away crowd were on hand to see if the Caley Jags could secure promotion to the Championship at Bayview Stadium in the penultimate League fixture of the season. Hopes were high after last weeks results where Stenhousemuir lost at Cove Rangers and Inverness nervously scraped home against Kelty Hearts to open up a four point gap with just two games remaining. A few different permutations remain but it's going to the wire after a 1-1 draw at Bayview and Stenhousemuir beating Alloa 1-0. It was a massive let down for the big away support who witnessed a disjointed scrappy performance by the Caley Jags against a team that were prepared to fight for the jerseys and deserved their point today whilst we fired high balls onto the head of Brian Easton as if he was a ball magnet. Michael MacKenna scored a simple knock in after our defence were easily opened up on the right side. We were second to every ball for 80 minutes, The introduction of some subs injected a bit more urgency but it took a superb strike from Billy Mckay to salvage an unlikely point in the final minute of the ninety after he chested the ball, spun round and shot early from the edge of the box to leave the keeper stranded as the ball rifled into the bottom corner. That was the solitary bit of quality on a day when we looked overawed and ordinary and the fans left the stadium shaking their heads. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It started reasonably brightly for us in the opening minutes as Longstaff had an opportunity to cut into the box before Robbie Hemfrey saved from a tight angle. It was a bright afternoon with a hint of a stiff breeze on the park that often held long balls up long enough for defenders to get the easy pickings, and so it went on. Mamadou Bah headed over from a corner and the ever dangerous Michael McKenna saw Ross Munro save his header to the bottom corner. Chanka Zimba went down injured and to be honest might just as well have stayed on the ground for the rest of the half such was the impact he was having on procedings. Maybe the hosts saw this as an excuse to leave their players on the surface a la Fawlty Towers 'well you started it'. McKenna had another header saved by Munro ten minutes before the break and the 'injuries' continued to the interval in what had been a very poor half with chances at a premium. HALF TIME: 0-1 The tempo upped at the start of the second half but it was the hosts that were looking livelier around the box with Munro the busier keeper, saving from Nathan Austin in the bottom corner. Oscar MacIntyre was blocked just as he offloaded a shot as he raced onto a ball on the edge of the box and minutes later East Fife went ahead. Good work or not so good defending, but the hosts did well to retain the ball on their left wing following a throw-in and Slattery's ball into the middle was knocked in by McKenna from ten yards to dent our ambitions. We could all see this coming thus far in the game and for the next twenty minutes it could have got worse. McKenna was denied by Munro as the Fifers broke forward, the keeper able to save comfortably in the end. The play was still being disrupted and more substitutes added to this but ultimately would throw us a get out of jail card right at the end. From this point onwards, we showed much more urgency with Wotherspoon and Billy Mckay now on the park although the bigger mystery was why was Zimba still on it (or was he? Maybe it was his destiny). Ross Munro pulled off a tremendous save to stop McKenna adding a second as he acrobatically tipped his effort over the bar. That was a crucial save by the keeper that kept us in the game. Hemfrey pulled off a TV save when substitute Adam MacKinnon's volley was bounced off the surface towards the top corner but the keeper had time to take the cigar out before diving and catching the ball with both hands, Thankfully for us, Zimba surfaced just in time to nod Paul Allan's lob towards the box onwards where the genius of Billy Mckay left the keeper rooted to the spot as his volley found the bottom corner from around twenty yards. Billy collected Chanka's backward head flick on his chest and his strikers instinct saw him swivel and volley as smooth as you like and for that we will be eternally grateful for Paul, Chanka and the predatory Billy Mckay. That goal alone might just be enough to save our season as a draw next week is another option to going straight up. FULL TIME: 1-1 Make no bones about it, this was a dismal showing in a game that could have yielded the League1 title and with it promotion to the Championship. Instead of that we were dragged into a dogged battle against a team fighting for survival accompanied by some questionable tactical decisions to stay down injured at the drop of a hat. Nonetheless it worked as a disruptive influence on the game which killed any chance of a repeat of the flowing action we saw at Peterhead recently. Mind you, a lot of that was down to our own lack of tactical nous in launching numerous aimless balls forward to Brian Easton's head, a tactic that rightly saw him named man of the match. East Fife are now set for a final day relegation play-off battle after Accies beat Peterhead but that point today for the Fifers gives them some hope going into the final games next week just one point ahead of Accies with Kelty Hearts now officially relegated. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pos Team Pld Gd Pts 1 ICTFC 35 35 66 2 Stenny 35 21 64 3 Alloa 35 15 53 4 QotS 35 8 51 5 P'Head 35 -14 43 6 Monty 35 -17 42 7 Cove 35 -3 37 8 E Fife 35 -27 35 9 Accies 35 13 34 Kelty 35 -31 26 How important could this goal be. 6. Is It Coming Home? With the prospect of a title winning celebration happening this weekend, a big crowd is expected at Bayview Stadium, Methil. It's certainly not a formality by any means, however, there is a distinct possibility that something could happen and that will swell the crowd. East Fife have had to review their seating allocation to try and accommodate this surge in ticket sales and we are still waiting for further developments regarding ticket sales as of Monday at 21:00. It did open but sold out quickly and we now await more seating to be released by East Fife. A win for the Caley Jags will secure the title outright regardless of what Stenhousemuir do against Alloa Athletic. A draw might be enough but that depends on Stenhousemuir losing or at worst, drawing, something that is not a common occurrence at Ochilview this season. A defeat for both clubs hands Inverness the title and promotion. Defeat at Bayview takes it to the final day against Accies as long as Stenny get the win, and a draw at Stenny would probably suffice for us given our superior goal difference. It's all ifs and buts at the moment. It's only this season that our paths have crossed again after a 27 year hiatus in League games. We did have a League cup win over them in 2020 when Shane Sutherland scored the only goal of the game. We have been pretty dominant this season so far scoring nine goals and conceding one in the first meeting this season in a 4-1 win in the Highlands. Our overall Head 2 Head meetings with East Fife is good with 10 wins, two defeats and two draws in the 14 fixtures played since we first locked horns in a Scottish Cup tie in 1996. That one ended in a 1-1 draw: A team of volunteers cleared a 2 inch covering of snow to allow this game to go ahead. The first chance fell after 5 minutes to East Fife's Trinidadian Arnold Dwarika but Jim Calder saved his 25 yard drive. Two minutes later Calder touched a Robert Scott shot round the post. Five minutes later lain Stewart had the home fans roaring when he opened the scoring - a long pass from Graeme Bennett found Stewart with a little space on the right edge of the area and he chipped (surprise surprise) the ball over Lindsay Hamilton. It was nearly two in 15 minutes but Richard Hastings 30 yard free kick flew narrowly past the post. The home side had other first half chances through Stewart and Hercher and East Fife came close in 41 minutes when Calder touched away a David Beaton free kick. The home side continued to impress in the second half and had excellent chances through Teasdale and Hercher. In 78 minutes East Fife drew level - Alex Hamill slipped the ball to Dwarika on the right and without breaking stride he curled the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net from 25 yards. Caley Thistle fought back but could not find the net - their best effort was 6 minutes from time when a well timed tackle from John McStay foiled Alan Hercher. The home side were disappointed not to have held on to their lead and East Fife headed south greatly relieved. <Both Reports by Ian Broadfoot> The replay was also drawn 1-1 thanks to an injury time equaliser from Alan Hercher who cancelled out Scott's opener on 75m. A tremendous victory for Caledonian Thistle but only after an injury time equaliser in normal time and the drama of penalty kicks. The match was played at a furious pace on a wet and windy evening and several hundred Inverness fans witnessed an historic victory. East Fife had the better of the first half as the visitors battled into the gales - the best chances for the home side fell to Mark Donaghy who hit it over the bar in 8 minutes and to player/manager Steve Archibald who did the same from 6 yards in 24 minutes. Caley Thistle dominated the penalty shoot out with the home players clearly very nervous. Iain Stewart, Mike Noble and Daisy Ross all scored for the visitors while East Fifes Allan hit it over the bar, Jim Calder saved from Hope and McStay scored. At 3-1 Colin Mitchells penalty was saved by Hamilton but the match was over when Hutcheon hit the post. A superb night for Caley Thistle and a place in the last 16 of the Cup. 7. One step Closer This was the ninth meeting between these two sides and the most crucial given what was at stake for both teams. For the Caley Jags, they are focussed on one thing, promotion, and the result at Cove v Stenhousemuir will be secondmost on their minds. Kelty will be fully committed to the task in hand whilst keeping an eye on events at Cove and Montrose v Accies where their closest relegation rivals will be battling for points. It was a tight affair as we suspected and it took an own goal to separate the sides after a less than impressive first half in the swirling conditions. It happened at the far end and it took a while to decide but the goal has been credited to Alex Ferguson following a corner. (Bet he wishes he had stayed at Manchester United) Who knows, we never had binoculars. The goal followed on from the best effort of the game so far when Kyle Gourlay denied Adam MacKinnon with a great low save in the bottom corner, the result was a Paul Allan corner kick to Inverness. The rest is history. That's how it ended with little goalmouth action although Kelty came close with a shot from distance that curled just wide of the top corner. Phew! That was the closest they came and a big warning to us. With Stenhousemuir losing at Cove and Accies winning at Montrose, promotion and relegation have become a little clearer but nothing finalised yet with only two games remaining. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A chilly afternoon on the Moray Firth greeted the teams with April showers and blustery winds forecast for the afternoon and Kelty meant business by changing ends before kick-off. Full report to follow but to be honest, the first half was tense and dull where virtually nothing happened. An early warning for us as we had to clear one away yards from goal and a similar effort for us at the other end. A Zimba effort held by Kyle Gourlay was the only moment of note in a terrible first forty-five. Maybe the swirling wind had something to do with it but it was a total non event. The pace improved after the break but like Talking Heads, it was still tense and nervous, we can't relax... The introduction of MacIntyre and Longstaff at the interval gave us more width and it seemed to inject a bit more life about proceedings but still not exactly a riot like we showed at Peterhead. Lewis Moore had an effort saved comfortably by Ross Munro before it took the introduction of MacKinnon to put the final piece of the jigsaw in place and he was instrumental in bringing about the only goal of the game. At last we saw some good build up play and MacKinnon's shot was well saved by Gourlay just inside the post at the expense of a corner. Not for the first time this season, Paul Allan's inswinging corner landed right on top of the goalline and it looked like the ball has come off Alex Ferguson before entering the net. Pin point accuracy from Allan and just the break we needed although Allan is still trying to clam the goal. Not a game for taking unnecessary risks and our defence limited Kelty to very few opportunities, one of those a shot that whistled close to the junction of crossbar and post. That was a timely reminder we still had work to do as Bavidge headed over and Longstaff skied one after good interplay outside the box. As they have done most of the season, our defence stood firm with Kelty not looking likely to get back on level terms and it was a massive three points combined with the news that Stenhousemuir had been beaten 2-0 at Cove. Crucial Kelty Crunch Game After a convincing 2-0 win at Peterhead in midweek, the Caley Jags head into the final three games of the season with a one point advantage over a relentless Stenhousemuir. A stunning Alfie Stewart free kick and an equally impressive team goal put into the net by Chanka Zimba saw us leap frog the Warriors with no room for error over the final 270 minutes. Kelty come North on the back of a great result against Montrose which has seen them narrow the gap to safety and they now sit five points adrift of Cove Rangers and two behind Hamilton Accies. With Kelty in as much need of points as us but for different reasons, then this could be a tough game all round but one we are well capable of dealing with after showing more conviction in the second half at Balmoor. Don't forget to put your retro shirts on. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Bus/Bar/Info Bring a Friend for a Fiver ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All 8 Competitive Meetings 0 - 0 (A) 2 - 2 (H) 3 - 0 (A) 0 - 2 (H) 1 - 0 (A) 1 - 1 (H) 0 - 0 (A) 1 - 0 (A) We were in the Pink at Balmoor on Tuesday night and warmed to the task with an assured performance to put promotion back in our own grasp, but there's no wiggle room with Stenny breathing down our necks. Keep it under your hat, but Alfie Stewart is turning out to be a great asset. He doesn't do tap-ins. Every one of his goals this season have been belters. Last Six League1: D W D D D W Not turning draws into wins has been a major stumbling block this season in our drive for promotion. We took the bull by the horns against Peterhead and took the game to them, especially in the second half where nobody would have complained had we scored half a dozen. Here's a sobering thought. We have never beaten Kelty at home in the three games we have played in the Highlands with one defeat and two draws. The diamond shaped midfield worked well at Peterhead, especially in the second half where we went for the jugular. Chanka Zimba notched his 19th goal of the season at Peterhead and Alfie's stunner was his eighth. Getting to the game Bar 94 and Matchday Bus times for Saturday's game against Kelty Hearts. Saturday is Retro Shirt Day in Bar 94, so a chance to wear your all time favourite strip, whilst we also have excellent, high quality framed prints of the Stadium, produced and donated by member Stewart Coghill, available for purchase at £50 each. Some great shirts over the years. Dig out your grandads olde shirt and wear it with pride, preferably without your grandad still inside it. The Kelty recovery continued last Saturday with a tremendous 3-1 win at home to Montrose. An Arnott penalty and a brace from Cooper won the points at New Central Park. That followed on from an excellent 2-1 win away to Accies and an equally impressive home draw with Queen of the South who ended that game with ten men. Last Six League1: L D L W D W It's not been the best of seasons for the Maroons since we beat them 3-0 in the season opener back on the 2nd of August. Seems like a lifetime away now. 9. One down three to go After the disappointment of Saturday's game at Ochilview, we had another opportunity to top the table going into the final three games in League1. After tonight, it's a three game sprint for the title. Could the Caley Jags keep their destiny within their own grasp? Chanka Zimba was available after suspension and he led the line with Calum MacLeod retaining his starting place from the weekend and Billy Mckay missing out again. League1 Player of the Month for March, 17 goal Kieran Shanks will lead the line for Peterhead and Flynn Duffy was back in the starting XI. Inverness were the more prominent around the opposition box with Newman making one tremendous save from an Alonge free kick but he had no chance when Alfie Stewart stepped up thirty yards from goal to whip his free kick right into the top corner to open the scoring. The next best effort was an Alfie Bavidge run into the right side of the box but Newman stood tall to block the ball away. In a great attacking display in the second half we hit the woodwork twice through Robertson and Alonge before Chanka Zimba swept home a Bavidge cross to secure the points. Magnificent result considering what was at stake. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The hosts got the game underway and Inverness went onto the front foot. In the third minute a twenty-five yard free kick from Jordan Alonge was spectacularly pushed out for a corner by Jack Newman. Nothing from the corner but moments later Alfie Bavidge headed goalwards but it lacked power and was easily gathered by Newman. Inverness were dictating the early pace of the game and after ten minutes Calum MacLeod looped a header over when Newman was caught in no mans land. Peterhead's first effort was a shot from Seb Ross that was dragged wide a minute later after some neat footwork around the box. Midway through the half the play had evened out and Munro saved comfortably on the angle from Kieran Shanks. Play was turning a bit scrappy on the fiery surface with the ball bouncing high making control awkward. Newman smothered a dangerous cross into the box in the twenty-fifth minute as it remained goalless and a stabbed passback to Newman went unpunished before Zimba clumsily tried to get a couple of shots away. Munro flopped on a snapshot from Jason Brown as the game moved back to the other end. Munro needlessly gave away a throw in. Why??? Lots of petty fouls littering the game now, but with half an hour gone Bavidge raced clear on a great ball forward by Stewart after he broke down an attack, but Bav went a step or two wide allowing Newman to block his effort from fifteen yards on the right side of the box. We were swarming all round the home box but nobody had the required skill to unlock the defence. Until now. Wow!!! A stunning thirty yard left footer curling free kick from Alfie Stewart opened the scoring five minutes before the break. Pawlett had been pulled back after a late lunging tackle missed his intended target. Wee Alfie only scores screamers, he couldn't have placed it in the net any better had he taken some step ladders and dropped the ball into the net from on the goalline. The visitors were now being flagged offside a few times as the interval approached and it remained the narrowest of advantages at the break thanks to Alfie Stewart's stunning free kick. HALF TIME: 0-1 The Caley Jags should have gone two up in the first minute when Newman palmed the ball to Zimba and on the rebound Bavidge saw his shot blocked in the six yard box before being cleared. Moments later Calum MacLeod saw his shot grabbed by Newman after MacLeod's shot deflected over the keeper but was headed off the line by a defender. We had the ball in the net again but it was flagged by the linesman to deny a second. Fast start to this half from the Highlanders looking to increase their advantage. Jordan Alonge burrowed his way into the box past a number of players but his shot cracked back of the post to deny him a brilliant solo. Great pressure from the visitors and only eight minutes into the half. Bavidge could have scored after latching onto a ball into the box but his low shot rifled across the face of the goal from eight yards on the right. Mitchell Robertson curled a beauty onto the crossbar from twenty-five yards with Newman rooted to the spot and he followed up on his own rebound but his shot swerved a yard wide of the target. How we have not scored at least four goals this half is a mystery. Fear not, it paid off on sixty-seven minutes when Bavidge used his pace wide right to drill a low ball into the box for Zimba to sweep the ball into the net from inside the six yard box. It was another tremendous ball by MotM Alfie Stewart that had set Bavidge on his way. Five subs stemmed the flow of the game and we saw out the last fifteen comfortably in control to go back on top of the table with three games left. FULL TIME: 0-2 Alfie Stewart was TV MotM and no complaints from me after that stunning free kick. He was also part of the assist for the second goal as we played out from the back. Great all round performance that offered little for Peterhead to work with and a result that could have ended up at five or six to the visitors. 10. No Room for Error It's almost last chance saloon at the last chance saloon club as we face Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium on Tuesday night with the game kicking off at 19:45. It will also be screened on BBC ALBA for those not able to attend. A cringeworthy penalty decision against Stenhousemuir on Sunday meant that we remain two points behind the Warriors after the 1-1 draw which saw the three points wrenched from our grasp by an incompetent referee, who up to that point, within reason, had been doing okish albeit a bit pernickety. We play this catch-up game and thereafter all teams will have three games left to decide where the title goes, and likewise relegation for those at the bottom end. As it stands it's still in our own hands but anything other than a win removes that option and puts Stenhousemuir in the driving seat. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Bus/info Tickets: £10 Adult, £5 Concession ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inverness CT 59pts THE RUN IN Stenhousemuir 61pts Peterhead v ICTFC - 📺 14th April @19:45 STENNY - No ⛔ Game ICTFC v Kelty Hearts 18th April @15:00 Cove v STENNY East Fife v ICTFC 25th April @15:00 STENNY v Alloa ICTFC v Accies 2nd May @15:00 Montrose v STENNY That was our starting XI at Stenhousemuir which saw a few changes from the KDM Final against Raith Rovers. A tough game at Ochilview might have taken it's toll on some but Chanka Zimba was suspended so expect him to feature in this one. Three draws in our last three games is not the form of Champions. Last Six League1: W D W D D D We started this run with a 3-1 home win over Montrose. With Stenny drawing and Alloa losing in midweek, we had a smidgeon of breathing space going into the home game against Cove but that was taken away by a goalkeeper. Balint Demus headed in an equaliser because we failed to put the game to bed when on top. A common theme throughout the season and one which Stenhousemuir took full advantage of by snatching a last minute winner. We bounced back in midweek with a good 3-1 home win over Peterhead with as bizarre an 'offside' goal as you will see gifting the Head their consolation. Zimba x2 & Alonge were our scorers in that one, three going on six. Zimba was Hero to Zero at Alloa scoring the equaliser before being sent off ten minutes later with the game ending at 1-1 and our last League1 game was a poor 1-1 draw under the lights v QotS where Ross Millen followed up on his saved penalty to bundle home and earn us a point. Onto the the KDM final and the only bright spark for us was Alfie Stewart's superb free kick. Alas we gave our opponents too much respect and too many opportunities to take the ball from us and for that we suffered badly. We suffered even more at Ochilview having led for around 70mins when Calum MacLeod's goal was wiped out with one blow of the refs whistle in a 1-1 draw. Meh! Heads team that were maybe surprisingly beaten on Saturday by East Fife. They went down 2-1 at Methil with Craig McGuffie getting their goal. Last Six League1: W L L D W L First of the last six was a an excellent 3-1 win over Alloa, Shanks, McGuffie and an og sealing the points. A last minute goal for Stenny saw them leave Balmoor with a 1-0 win and that was followed by a 3-1 win for none other than the Caley Jags with Shanks getting their rather bizarre goal. 11. Cheated out of three points Down to the nitty gritty today in the late televised kick-off at Ochilview and there really was nowhere to hide now as the Caley Jags faced a relentless Warriors side who are unbeaten in their last fifteen home games ahead of this 'virtual' title decider. Not quite a winner takes all encounter, but it would hand a crucial advantage to the victor, although a draw keeps the title battle going to the wire. With the Warriors hitting the top of the table last week their confidence was high, and rightly so with the current Manager of the Month Gary Naysmith leading the squad. On the other hand, we were reeling after an error strewn performance in the KDM Trophy final last Sunday. Would Scott Kellacher be able to put the belief back into our beleaguered squad to resurrect our promotion bid? Would we have the balls to go for the win or will we be sitting in and hoping for a point? It's not worked out well so far this season with Stenny having two league wins and a draw. Our only success was in the KDM with a tight 1-0 win. Well, the short answer, the status quo has been maintained after Stenhousemuir were awarded a 'penalty' lifeline when someone threw himself to the ground as he fell over Devine in the box. No contact, no penalty. WTAF. Calum MacLeod had given the visitors a first half lead pouncing on a loose ball at the back post. However, once again we paid the price for not putting the game to bed when well on top. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Danny Devine, David Wotherspoon, and Calum MacLeod all started with Liam Sole, Oscar MacIntyre and Joe Chalmers benched and Chanka Zimba suspended. The Warriors looked to have a full strength squad out today with a dangerous attacking handful on from the start. Stenhousemuir had the wind behind them in the first half and the first effort fell to Ross Taylor in the opening moments but he smothered his shot and Ross Munro gathered easily Calum MacLeod had similar effort at the other end but his sclaffed shot was blocked. An Alfie Stewart free kick was a bit ambitious from thirty yards as the keeper collected with ease, but moments later Jordan Alonge should have opened the scoring off a long ball into the box but his glanced effort rolled wide. Inverness' early pressure paid off after fifteen minutes when a free kick swung in by Stewart was met by Mitchell Robertson. His header to the bottom corner was brilliantly saved by Jamieson but MacLeod was on hand to knock the loose ball in from close range. On a swift break forward Taylor brought out a good low save from Munro, who gathered at the second attempt. Ritchie-Hosler won a corner after the half hour as his shot was deflected wide as the hosts came more into the game. Brilliant work wide left by Wotherspoon to make space and get his cross in and a stooping Alfie Bavidge knocked the ball across the face of the goal but just wide of the target. Just on half time a couple of balls shelled into our box were mopped up by the defence and the Caley Jags went into the interval a goal to the good. HALF TIME: 0-1 A snapshot from Wotherspoon had Darren Jamieson scampering across his goal to tip the ball behind for an early second half corner to no avail. Almost a superb goal for Alonge as his shot curled towards the top corner off the outside of his boot but Jamieson pulled off a tremendous fingertip save to tip it over for corner. From the corner the keeper had to look lively to snatch the ball away from danger. Bavidge cut in from the left side but Jamieson was alert to the danger to pull off a decent TV save. The visitors were on top as we passed the hour, but we needed to capitalise on our dominance. We've seen this scenario before. And it almost happened but for a superb block by Ross Munro in the box as Ross Taylor looked favourite to score, the keeper shutting him down rapidly. From the corner we had Devine to thank for hooking the ball away from the line as the hosts pushed for a leveller. Stenny had kept us at bay in the third quarter of the game and they gradually got to grips with the game again. A ball into the box from the right was bobbled about and Devine went to ground. Whilst lying face down on the ground the referee somehow awarded Stenny a penalty as Anderson possibly left his feet against Devine to theatrically hit the turf. In my book it's called cheating. Penalty given and Matty Aitken who had spent most of the game arm wrestling with Remi Savage slotted into the bottom corner. What an injustice and a familiar sight for Inverness fans to watch the team not put games to bed when on top. A Bavidge half volley was tipped over by Jamieson as the clock ticked down and a couple of scares at either end but despite a frantic finish, nobody could find a winner. 12. STENNY SIX-POINTER If ever there was one, this is the proverbial six-pointer and a game that will go a long way to decide who gets automatic promotion to the Championship come five o'clock on the 2nd of May. If not entirely a must win game, it's definitely a must not lose encounter. We still have the postponed fixture against Peterhead away to contend with and at this stage of the season and with our campaign agonisingly unravelling in a tortuous manner, there are no guarantees that three points at Balmoor is a given. Ahead of this game, it's still in our own hands, a defeat removes that option. Danny Devine missed the KDM Final through injury and although Chanka Zimba played in it, was on the park, he is suspended for this crucial League1 clash. A number of our players never turned up for the Final, some say they haven't arrived yet, but here's hoping they get that no show out of their system pretty quick. It's not up to me, but surely we need more grit and determination in midfield and we don't get that from Chalmers. What does Calum MacLeod and Ben Brannan need to do to get a game? Does Liam Sole not realise he needs to get his finger out and deliver the goods he often promises? Alfie Bavidge is a striker. Play him as one. Time to play our best XI from the start. If that means getting more out of David Wotherspoon then so be it. Is it time to roll back the years and get Billy Mckay on the park as well, although he was not in the squad at Firhill? Plenty of questions for Scott Kellacher to ponder, let's hope he has all the answers because defeat here could signal another season in the doldrums. 🦀 Sideways football, it's not for everyone 🦀 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Bus/Info 📺 LIVE on BBC Alba 📺 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inverness CT 58pts THE RUN IN Stenhousemuir 60pts STENNY v ICTFC - 📺 11th April @17:30 STENNY v ICTFC - 📺 Peterhead v ICTFC - 📺 14th April @19:45 STENNY - No ⛔ Game ICTFC v Kelty Hearts 18th April @15:00 Cove v STENNY East Fife v ICTFC 25th April @15:00 STENNY v Alloa ICTFC v Accies 2nd May @15:00 Montrose v STENNY With our season imploding somewhat, we never turned up for the KDM Trophy Final against Raith Rovers who deservedly took the win last Sunday 4-1. Alas we gave our opponents too much respect and too many opportunities to take the ball from us and for that we suffered badly. Scott Kellacher with the copy & paste pre-match. A few struggling after last weekend. No specific players named so that should open up the tombola selection. Just a thought here. Is our squad too big for League1 and is that why we have this selection rotation? With 22 or 23 to pick from that brings it's own headaches. If a club only has say 15 quality players then barring injuries and suspensions, there's your players for a more settled and consistent first choice. To be honest, I don't envy Kellacher's job, however it's time for the top XI to start at Ochilview. Stenhousemuir's relentless drive for promotion continued last Saturday with a confident 3-0 win over Hamilton Accies with goals from Dunfermline's on loan Ritchie-Hosler, Ross Taylor and Greg Buchanan. Last Six League1: W D W W D W They have been churning out results all season and have taken 14 points from their last six League1 fixtures, a run that has taken them two points clear of the Caley Jags who are hell bent on drawing their way into the Championship with their over cautious approach. It all started with a 1-0 win at Accies thanks to Olly Whyte's goal on the hour. A 1-1 draw followed at QotS where Nicky Jamieson's first half goal was cancelled out on the hour by Guthrie. Ross Taylor was the match winner at Peterhead with a last minute strike and he scored the opener in the next game against Kelty Hearts with Matty Aitken adding a late second in a 2-0 win. A surprising 2-2 draw with a battling East Fife after goals from Buchanan and Anderson had them cruising for all three points. The Fifers turned it round with two goals in a minute, the first from Nathan Austin baby. Last time out they scored an emphatic 3-0 win over Accies with Ritchie-Hosler, Ross Taylor and Greg Buchanan wrapping up the points which put them two ahead of the Caley Jags who will have a catch-up game to come against Peterhead next Tuesday. 🏆 Gary Naysmith has been named Glen’s League 1 Manager of the Month for March 2026. Can't argue with that given the unbeaten run the Warriors are on. Ross Taylor had to come off injured against Accies or was that just a precaution. He has an eye for a goal out of nothing. Ritchie-Hosler on loan from Dunfermline has given Stenny an extra dimension. Olly Whyte and Matty Aitken are big threats in front of goal. 13. KDM TROPHY FINAL WOE The KDM TROPHY Final would be played out at the Wyre Stadium, Firhill, with Championship side Raith Rovers facing League1 Inverness CT. Both sides had won the Challenge Cup three times. Both sides shared the win in season 2020/21 when it was the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Trophy with Covid preventing the final from going ahead. So today it's the Harry Hill way to sort it out 'FIGHT'. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After the 'FIGHT' it was a record fourth Challenge Cup win for Rovers. They'll be dancing in the streets of Raith tonight. Bless them! A defensive error allowed Rovers to take the lead through Innes Cameron but that strike was cancelled out by a superb free kick from Alfie Stewart ten minutes before the break in a relatively even first forty-five. Ten minutes into the second half Cameron scored his second after a free kick was put into the six yard box. Raith were now on top and Dylan Easton hammered in a third on the hour following us giving the ball away in midfield. An exact replica goal from Easton again gifted Rovers a fourth and the game was beyond Inverness now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alfie Stewart got the game underway in bright sunshine. It was ten minutes in before the first half chance appeared when a long ball forward fell for Innes Cameron but his attempted flick goalwards was wide of the mark. A good burst forward by Jordan Alonge ended with a wayward pass to Liam Sole who has yet to get into the game. First save of the game arrived when Mullin brought Ross Munro into action with a shot from inside the box. Minutes later he had to pluck a deflected shot out of the air and right on the goal line. First good attack from the Caley Jags saw Sole drift forward and an interchange with Paul Allan but it was cut out for a throw in opposite the Rovers box. Munro saved comfortably midway through the half but it was Raith that were looking the busier. A long range snapshot from Sole almost surprised Josh Rae in goal but he grasped it at the second attempt. Out of nothing we gifted Raith Rovers the opening goal when Mitchell Robertson's short pass to Alfie Stewart was miscontrolled by the midfielder and Innes Cameron stepped in to knock the ball past a stranded Munro. A massively avoidable goal to lose and hugely disappointing. Inverness responded and an attempt from Sole was deflected high into the air as Zimba and Rae clashed in the six yard box. Minutes later, Alonge was brought down on the edge of the box and Alfie Stewart atoned for his earlier mistake to curl a beauty round the four man wall and into the bottom corner from 25 yards, and boy did he like that one! Much better from the Highlanders since the equaliser and they were now forcing the play and the half ended with the Caley Jags on top. HALF TIME: 1-1 First moment of the second half saw Zimba booked for catching Cameron late outside our box. From the free kick into the box Cameron knocked in from close range amongst a ruck of people. Not bad after almost looking for a stretcher two minutes earlier. It looks like game over minutes later when after giving the ball away on the left midfield, Rovers moved swiftly into the box where Easton lashed the ball high into the net from fifteen yards on the left side. Looking suspiciously like a foul for us, Easton added a fourth from the same spot after we gave the ball away for the third assist to Rovers. After that everything was flat with a number of subs disrupting play. FULL TIME: 4-1 More Match Reaction to follow Inverness were the architects of their own downfall with some slack passing and poor ball retention. However, it's congratulations to Raith Rovers on their fourth Challenge Cup win and back to concentrate solely on League1 business for us over the next Month. Two goals each for the danger men Innes Cameron and Dylan Easton were the difference with Inverness getting three assists. Unfortunately the assists were for Raith Rovers. Take nothing away from the goal scorers, they finished with aplomb, but it's criminal to keep presenting them with the opportunities. Players of that quality don't need a helping hand. One plus was a super free kick for Alfie Stewart. Difficult to find an Inverness player to pick as our MotM with too many posted missing and making punished errors. We certainly missed Danny Devine at the back but errors were being made all over the park. Disappointing second half after we ended the first on the front foot. It's a massive week coming up for the manager who will have to lift the players for the six pointer away to Stenhousemuir next week and a difficult away fixture at Peterhead three days later. It's in our own hands, but we need to believe in ourselves and stop showing so much respect for teams that have still to earn that respect. Highlights from Raith TV. 14. 🏆 KDM TROPHY FINAL 🏆 It's been a long slog but we have battled our way through to the final of the KDM Trophy where we will face Raith Rovers at the neutral venue of Firhill in Glasgow. It's been quite a journey since we played our first Challenge Cup game at Elgin back on the 12th of August last year. Eight months and another ten games later we will face-off against Championship side Raith Rovers in the final. It's been some journey and we are unbeaten up to the final having won all ten matches so far scoring a total of 41 goals and conceding 8, eliminating two Championship sides in Partick Thistle and Ayr United, won a penalty shoot-out, had one game postponed, scored a club record nine goals in a mismatch against Dumbarton, beaten League1 rivals Stenhousemuir and had Alfie Bavidge knocking in four in one game. Who ever said it was a Mickey Mouse Cup? It certainly caught the eye more once the knock-out stages started with the introduction of the Championship sides and we are now on our way to our sixth final. We lost our first in a dramatic penalty kick defeat to Alloa Athletic back in season 99/2000. In 03/04 we beat Airdrie 2-0 and in 09/10 we let a two goal lead slip against Dundee to lose out in an entertaining five goal final. We returned to the final in 17/18 to defeat Dumbarton 1-0 with a late Carl Tremarco goal when extra time looked likely and the 19/20 final was shelved due to the covid crisis where we were to play Sunday's opponents Raith Rovers. The trophy was shared then, so this weekend we can play for the right to get our hands on the trophy legitimately. This will be Raith Rovers fifth appearance in the final having won it three times. They have reached the final in four of the last six seasons it has been contested, the tournament being cancelled in season 2020/21. Their last two KDM fixtures to get to the final saw them eliminate Championship sides Queens Park and Airdrie in penalty kick shoot-outs. 💰 There's £150,000 up for grabs if you win and a not too shabby £100,000 for the runners-up. 💰 🤑 Either way, that's a lot of dosh 🤑 Chanka Zimba is suspended, but it transpires that his suspension is for League games only, therefore he will be eligible to play on Sunday but will miss the League game at Stenhousemuir. However, he was on International duty for Zambia against Argentina on April 1st. Lionel Messi shared the same pitch with Chanka for half an hour in Buenos Aires. Trust me, it was a real thing, not AI and not an April Fool. Well done to Chanka for getting recognition after a good season at the Caley Jags. A great achievement to go from an early bath at Recreation Park Alloa to the Estadio Alberto J Armando in Buenos Aires, a stadium capable of 50,000 plus crowds. A feat that will never ever be replicated. Memories made for life! Back home, Liam Sole is free from suspension and will be available should he now be injury free. Danny Devine missed out last week through injury and another two or three were possibly carrying knocks. We will also need to keep an eye on the game at Ochilview with Stenhousemuir hosting Hamilton Accies as the run in for the League1 title gets serious. Hopefully Liam Sole and Danny Devine will be fit and maybe we can have our best right back this season in Calum MacLeod starting. It's no use sitting in for ninety minutes against Raith Rovers and then wondering what if! We need to be clinical and pacey, not sloppy and pedestrian. In our favour, we are at our best when we are underdogs!!! Raith Rovers last squad out in a comfortable 3-0 win over Ayr United who have since sacked Scott Brown. Surely it's not that embarrassing losing to Rovers A brace from Innes Cameron and one from Richard Chin sealed Broon's fate. Rovers have had a disappointing season by their own high standards and sit just outside the top four. Dougie Imrie is now the boss having taken over from Barry Robson in November. In season 2013/14 they beat Rangers by a solitary goal in the Ramsden Cup. Former Caley Jag John Baird scored the winner at Easter Road in front of almost 20,000. Having shared the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Trophy in 2019/20 with the Caley Jags; one for you and one for me, they then won it two seasons later when they beat Queen of the South 3-1 at the Excelsior Stadium with two headed goals from Matej Poplatnik and a strike from Ethan Ross. It was then known as the SPFL Trust Trophy. In Season 2022/23 they lost out in the final 1-0 to Hamilton Accies when it was still the SPFL Trust Trophy, with Reghan Tumilty the scorer. 15. Massive Disappointment With games running out and every point a prisoner, the Caley Jags would be looking to take advantage of this game under the lights against Queen of the South to get ahead of the pack before the rest play on Saturday afternoon. The last time Queens were here under the lights and on the telly the Caley Jags were untroubled as they ran out 4-0 winners. The scene is the same tonight although lambing snows and a chill wind might play a part in events tonight. Danny Devine was out injured and Liam Sole and Chanka Zimba were suspended. Mitchell Robertson was at the heart of the defence with Ross Millen at right back and Billy Mckay up front. Queens had their own injury worries but they still had big players like Reece Lyon, Kai Kennedy and Kurtis Guthrie in their starting XI. Oscar MacIntyre rattled the post and we had one or two close moments but Nicky Clark opened the scoring with a cute flick in the first half and the points were shared when Ross Millen bundled home following his spot kick being saved ten minutes after the break. A massive disappointment following a less than impressive performance where we went flat ten minutes after equalising. We have now opened the door for Stenhousemuir to step in tomorrow should they beat East Fife. As it turned out all our fears went unfounded as East Fife drew 2-2 with Stenny. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inverness got the game underway on a chilly night in the Highlands with maximum points the aim for both sides. Luis Longstaff almost broke the deadlock in the third minute when he got the break of the ball on the edge of the box but his chip just cleared the bar to land on the top of the net. Shortly after Billy Mckay was just inches away from connecting with a long free kick into the box as he headed wide. Queens were taking no prisoners early on dishing out some rough treatment. Alfie Stewart brought out a save from his namesake after driving forward from midfield following an interception. Following a swift break forward on the right, Alfie Bavidge dragged his parting shot across the keeper but just wide of the post after fifteen minutes. Oscar MacIntyre did brilliantly on a run into the box but his left footed shot smashed against the post and bounced out to safety with possibly a touch from the keeper. Ross Munro flopped onto a low shot from Hannah from the edge of the box but it lacked the power to trouble the keeper. Moments later Queens took the lead mostly against the run of play when a ball into the box was flicked into the net by the falling over Nicky Clark. Smart sucker punch goal and all to do now. A lot of petty fouls disrupting play ten minutes before the break but a good ball into the box from Millen was flicked just past the post by Billy Mckay. Jordan Alonge burst onto a pass on the left side of the box but the keeper pulled off a great save to deny him and we were unable to keep the follow up on target. HALF TIME: 0-1 No changes at the break but five minutes into the half Billy Mckay was barged over as he chased a ball into the box. After deliberating with himself, the referee awarded a spot kick. Ross Millen took it but the keeper made a great save only for Millen to follow up and bundle the ball into the net, just. And breathe. Alonge headed in but a wee niaff of a linesman flagged him offside. Almost a blooper in our box as Savage slipped but he recovered sufficiently to see the ball out for a throw in. Joe Chalmers had a pot shot from range but it went harmlessly over. A bit of a lull ensued with some looking jaded as we opted for sideways soccer. In a rare moment, MacKenzie shot well over for Queens as Inverness looked tired as the game deteriorated over the final twenty minutes. Kai Kennedy shot across the face of the goal in the 90th minute. Looked like Peter Murphy was red carded in the next minute. A late corner for the visitors saw Kennedy swing in the ball as we nervously gave the ball away numerous times in the final moments. Horrendous frantic defending from us. The ref saved us all from crumbling into nervous wrecks by bringing the game to a conclusion with as poor a performance as we have seen at home all season. 16. Five Games left to find our best XI With our lead down to a solitary point and just six League1 games left we have a home fixture against Queen of the South on Friday evening under the lights at 7:45pm. It's also on the telly if you can't get down to the stadium so tune in to BBC Alba and have your Gaelic phrasebook handy. Last time we aired with Queens we ran away with the points in a resounding 4-0 win back in November. Zimba and Sole scored on that occasion but they are both on the naughty step and will not be allowed out to play this time. Points are now getting hard to find as every team is fighting for their lives at both ends of the table with Stenhousemuir the form team with the impetus at the moment. Is our rotation system affecting our run for promotion? Is the size of our squad a hinderance or a bonus? Many fans have voiced their opinion on this as some are left baffled by the decision to change a winning side on numerous occasions. We all understand that injuries will affect who is selected, but it's often for no apparent obvious reason the tinkering occurs. Suspensions will certainly alter our starting XI this week and Danny Devine came off in the second half at Alloa and is a major doubt with Mitchell Robertson ready to step in. Fixtures against Queen of the South this season have yielded seven points so far with Queens only taking one to date. A 2-0 win for the Caley Jags in the first encounter at Palmerston back in September followed by a runaway 4-0 televised home fixture in November. A point apiece at Palmerston in a 2-2 draw at the end of January takes us up to the present with points in the promotion race getting harder to come by. Stenhousemuir were the only League1 team to get maximum points last weekend and they face East Fife at Methil on Saturday afternoon just one point behind. Possibly the last chance for Alloa to keep in touch as they are at home to Peterhead and sit ten points adrift of top place. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Bus/Bar94/Info KDM FINAL TICKETS Chanka Zimba Call Up ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 🚍 💰🚍 With the introduction of a £2 maximum fare on bus services in the Highlands this week, the fare on the Matchday Bus Service has been reduced from £2.70 to £2 from this week. For Friday's game against Queen of the South, Bar 94 will open at 1730, with last orders at 1915 (the bar must be fully vacated by 1930). The bar reopens at full time, when we hope to be joined by some of the players. Operated by Stagecoach, the bus will leave the Bus Station for the Stadium at 1900, returning from the Stadium to the Bus Station 10 minutes after the full time whistle. The bus fare is £2 single (contactless payments or cash accepted), and Over 60 / Disabled and Under 22 Concession passes are valid, giving free travel on the service to passholders. This was the guys we trusted to get the points at Recreation Park. Alas we had to battle for a point, literally, with Chanka Zimba scoring and also being red carded with over twenty minutes remaining. To ease his pain, he has been called up to the Zambian squad for an international fixture against Argentina in Buenos Aires on 31st March. It will coincide with his suspension. How thoughtful. Last Six League1: D D W D W D The last six started with a tough 1-1 draw against Stenny when we had Ben Brannan sent off with 20m left. (On the Tuesday after we beat Ayr Utd 1-2 to progress into the KDM Trophy Final). A disappointing no scoring draw at Kelty followed where we struggled to create enough clear chances and allowed the pack to close in again before a 3-1 home win over Montrose. Zimba was Hero to Zero at Alloa scoring the equaliser before being sent off ten minutes later with the game ending at 1-1. Zimba and Sole are suspended this weekend for a lack of discipline which could prove costly. That's a pity with Zimba scoring three in his last two games. Zimba and Alfie Bavidge both have ten League goals. Kellacher has the usual smokescreen ongoing that we have a few carrying knocks but is keeping that close to his chest for now so you will have to make your own starting XI up for yourself although Danny Devine is known to be struggling to make this one. Queen of the South drew 2-2 with a battling East Fife on Saturday. Reece Lyon with both goals but the Fifer's battled hard for a point with Gaffney & Culbert scoring. That has no doubt scuppered automatic promotion but Queens are clinging on to the fourth promotion play-off spot ahead of Peterhead and Montrose. Last Six League1: L L L D W D Queens run started with three defeats in a row, kicking off with a valentine's day loss at home to Alloa 2-1. A Kai Kennedy brace was not enough to stop them losing 3-2 at Montrose followed by another home defeat to Peterhead by 2-0. A 1-1 draw with Stenny then the solitary win away to Accies by 3-1 and that takes them up to the 2-2 home draw with East Fife. The Doonhamers are the second highest scorers in the League with 47 goals. Conceding 41 goals has been their downfall and that has them 13 points off the pace in fourth position, Reece Lyon has eight goals to his name in League1 with former Caley Jag Kai Kennedy bagging seven. Jack Stott and Matty Douglas are both on five. Queens still have four or five players getting back to match fitness after injury. Jack Hannah, Jack Stott, Jordan Allan and Mikey Hewit are the main ones still nursing injuries. 17. Ten man Jags make their point This was the final meeting between these sides this season with Inverness unbeaten in their last eleven League1 fixtures and Alloa looking to get back on track somewhat after two away defeats on the trot following four straight wins that had pushed them back into contention at the top end of the table. Liam Sole was suspended for this one as retribution for a 'head butt' in the KDM game at Ayr. Scott Kellacher had said pre-match that a few were carrying knocks. Maybe surprisingly, Bavidge, and Alonge found themselves on the bench with Wotherspoon and MacKinnon starting. Alloa looked to have a strong starting XI and plenty of quality back-up on the bench. Young Irishman Callum Burnside has been called up to the Norther Ireland u21 squad and celebrated with a hat-trick last week against Montrose. Plenty danger in the Alloa squad to keep our defenders on their toes. Inverness couldn't afford to slip up today with nearest challengers Stenhousemuir likely to pick up maximum points at Kelty. And by half time our worst scenario manifested with Stenhousemuir winning and Alloa scoring a goal on the interval through Dewar to dampen our spirits. Zimba levelled on the hour but left us with ten men ten minutes later. However, we held out for a point with Stenny winning 2-0. Our lead is now down to just one point with six games left. Strap yourself in! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A decent enough day for a game at the Indodrill on Matchday30 and an early Oscar MacIntyre cross brought about the first corner of the game but it was easily cleared by the hosts. Plenty of posturing early on but little action in the final third and with twenty minutes gone neither keeper had been called into action although a Danny Devine clearance saved Munro from getting involved. With half an hour gone there was a distinct lack of entertainment with defences dominating. Almost on cue, Ross Munro got his gloves dirty saving from Charlie Dewar some fifteen minutes before the break. A couple of minutes later Chanka Zimba's shot was blocked behind for a corner as the action started. Alfie Stewart hit the post after a good interchange with Longstaff following the corner and a David Wotherspoon shot from the edge of the box was saved by McFarlane in the home goal. At last a bit of pressure was mounting on the hosts defence, but hey stood firm so far. Inverness finished the half on top, or so we thought. Alloa opened the scoring in time added on through a Charlie Dewar header from Burnside's corner. HALF TIME: 1-0 Kellacher rang the changes at the break with Jordan Alonge and Ben Brannan replacing MacKinnon and MacLeod and five minutes in Longstaff shot over from a difficult angle and Alonge failed to divert a Spoony cross on target. On the hour it was all square as big Chanka shot home from outside the box to the bottom corner with Spoony and Longstaff on the assist. Liam McFarlane saved to deny Longstaff as he shot towards the bottom corner from within the penalty box. Ten minutes after his goal, Zimba went from hero to zero as he was sent off following a clash with Calum Waters. That gave Alloa a lift and Scott Taggart shot over soon after. Longstaff was then sacrificed with Alfie Bavidge coming on. With fifteen minutes remaining we then had to replace Devine through injury with Mitchell Robertson coming on. Kurtis Roberts shot over from the angle as Alloa sensed they had an opportunity to grab all three points. Spoony did likewise at the other end as he fired over from Bavidge's pass five minutes from the end. Alonge fired a free kick wide in the closing moments and on a late break forward Brannan was denied in the top corner by a superb save from McFarlane. Alloa made it a nervy ending as they forced a couple of corners into stoppage time and Roberts shot narrowly over as we held on for the point. FULL TIME: 1-1 Match Highlights. 18. Do the Wasps still have a sting in their tail With just seven League1 games left this season we are off to face another form side on the fringe of the promotion race. Alloa Athletic were flying and looking like real contenders until they suffered two defeats in a row at Peterhead and Montrose, conceding eight goals in the process and that might just have knocked the stuffing out of them. However, they are still one of three teams that have reaped twelve points from their last six games, the others being Stenhousemuir and ourselves. Recreation Park has never been an easy place to extricate points from, but needs must and we should be looking to take all three with the Warriors likely to grind out another win over Kelty Hearts on Saturday. Inverness will be Soleless again on Saturday and next week as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Info QotS Friends Ticket Offer KDM Final Tickets ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We bounced back to top the table on our own in midweek against Peterhead with a fine performance as we caught up on the rest of the table on matchday 29 for ourselves and Peterhead. Last Six League1: W D D W D W The first W was our BBC Alba game at Broadwood beating Accies (0-1). The next League game was a tough 1-1 draw with Stenny when we had Ben Brannan sent off with 20m left. (On the Tuesday after we beat Ayr Utd 1-2 to progress into the KDM Trophy Final). A disappointing no scoring draw at Kelty followed where we struggled to create enough clear chances and allowed the pack to close in again before a 3-1 home win over Montrose. Zimba x2 & Alonge were our scorers in that one, three going on six. Liam Sole has missed the last couple of games apparently injured since coming on as a 73rd minute substitute against Montrose, however, he has since been handed an immediate two match ban. The punishment was meted out by the SFA after a notice of complaint about a head butt on Jamie Hislop near the end of the KDM Trophy semi-final. He will be suspended for the next two League1 games but ironically will be allowed to play in the KDM final against Raith Rovers should he be fit. Ross Millen was an unused sub last time out v Peterhead having missed a few games recently. Scott Kellacher playing the olde "we have a few carrying knocks" smokescreen. Alloa were on a great run until they came unstuck at Balmoor and were pumped 3-1 by Peterhead. It got worse at the weekend in the late TV game where Montrose ran out winners in a nine goal thriller. However their good run prior to that never went unnoticed with Manager Andy Graham picking up the SPFL League1 Manager of the Month Award for February. Last Six League1: W W W W L L This run started with four wins on the trot stating away to QotS (1-2). Next up was 3-0 at home v Accies then another away win over East Fife 2-0 with the last win being 2-1 at home over Kelty Hearts. The curse of the MotM kicked in with a 3-1 reverse at Peterhead in a midweek encounter before the 5-4 loss at Montrose. But for a couple of late goals it was a thrashing although Callum Burnside can be pleased with his contribution of a hat-trick. He also notched a brace against Kelty and singles v East Fife and Accies. Luke Donnelly was also amongst the goals during the last six fixtures scoring three times. Alloa have one of the better squads in League1 with a good mixture of experience and younger heads with no shortage of quality. 19. Back on Top This was our catch up fixture and all teams have now played 29 games after tonight with only seven League1 fixtures remaining thereafter. It had not been the most productive last fortnight as the Caley Jags crawl towards the finishing line having dropped four points against the bottom two sides. Did we manage to get back on track tonight? Yes we did Inverness were in control of the first 45 with goals from Chanka Zimba and Jordan Alonge. A couple of glaring misses as well but Peterhead never threatened other than from a few free kicks in wide areas allowing them to swing balls into our box but Ross Munro was untroubled in the first half. We killed the game early in the second half after an incisive break down the left saw Luis Longstaff drill a great ball into the box where Zimba slid in to net and set us all at ease. Out of the blue and to everyone's bemusement, Peterhead prodded the ball into ball into the net to confuse all inside the stadium. After a discussion with the linesman and half a dozen Peterhead players a goal was eventually given. Danny Devine had his say and the final outcome was still a goal and a yellow card for an incensed Scott Kellacher. The Peterhead goal remains a mystery for now as it happened at the far end of the pitch so will have to see match footage to see what happened. All looked a bit fishy to me 🐟🐠🐟 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What a difference a day (or two) makes With Liam Sole still out Luis Longstaff was handed a rare start and Chanka Zimba was restored to the starting XI. These two with Alfie Stewart and Jordan Alonge were instrumental in a much improved performance from the side that disappointed against Cove Rangers three days earlier. The weather was in the process of changing and the strong winds throughout the day relented and it was a pleasant enough evening with light drizzle during the play. A long diagonal from Stewart in midfield found Calum MacLeod running into the box on the right corner. He controlled the ball well before getting his powerful shot away on the angle but Jack Newman parried the shot and Flynn Duffy mopped up the loose ball with Alfie Bavidge waiting to pounce on the line. There seemed to be more urgency to get forward in numbers at times and we dominated the proceedings from the start, Alfie Stewart curling an effort from distance over the bar as he looked to get his range finder tuned in early. It must have worked as he threaded a brilliant pass through the middle for Chanka Zimba to open the scoring. The big striker did well to hold off a couple of challenges as he turned the defender on the edge of the box and held him off to slot behind Newman from around ten yards. Zimba might have added a second after some good interplay allowed MacLeod to swing an inviting ball into the box but the striker was shut down as he tried to get his shot away and Newman gathered the ball comfortably. Bavidge snatched at a clear chance when a ball swung in from wide left and after challenging well for it, when the ball dropped he dragged his volley wide from eight yards with the goal at his mercy. Jordan Alonge brought out a spectacular save as Newman tipped his thirty-five yard strike over the bar at the expense of a corner. From Stewart's flag kick, Alonge met the ball at the back post. It may have come off a boot on the line but it's credited to Alonge at the moment with Bavidge and possibly Duffy stretching for the ball. That goal was the last noted action of the first half and a bit of breathing space going into the final forty-five. HALF TIME: 2-0 We threw Peterhead an early lifeline at the start of the second half after a loose pass out of defence went awry. Savage's pass from the edge of his own box was intercepted by Seb Ross who drove forward before bouncing his low shot across the keeper and off the outside base of the post. A let off for us but kind of us to invite the visitors to have a go given they did nothing in the first half. ten minutes later an incisive four man move down the left ended with Zimba's clinical finish from Longstaff's driven cross. Excellent move, excellent finish and game over. Stewart and Longstaff then combined well driving forward but Newman did well to block Alfie's first time effort on receipt of Luis return ball. It was all Inverness and Alonge curled a free kick just wide as we kept the pressure on. Then came the comedy slot. After we failed to clear our lines two or three times a Peterhead player was left adjacent to our goal line after one attack. When the ball came forward again, he sauntered on to the park as Ross Munro went to grab the ball as he strolled past him from behind. For whatever reason the ball spun loose and was poked into the net by Shanks. The goal then appeared to be chalked off before the referee, linesman and a deputation of half the Peterhead squad had a pow-wow. After some discussion the referee then pointed to the centre circle. Danny Devine joined into the debate before being ignored and Scott Kellacher was booked for shouting words of 'encouragement' towards the referee who must have great hearing as he was on the opposite side of the pitch. Mystery unveiled! Undeterred, we kept our noses comfortably in front and looked like scoring most times we ventured forward but for some desperate defending and goalkeeping. FULL TIME: 3-1 Luis Longstaff put in a great shift and was a willing outlet from defence to carry forward into dangerous areas. Jordan Alonge was his usual awkward and unpredictable self and was also prominent, however, none moreso than Alfie Stewart who was involved in everything good linking midfield into attack and he was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Chanka Zimba took his goals well and could easily have had a hat-trick. 20. Time to Kick On We play one of our postponed fixtures against Peterhead on Tuesday night 17th February with a 7:45pm kick-off. This is our catch up fixture as all teams will have played 29 games after Tuesday night with only seven League1 fixtures remaining thereafter. It's not been the most productive last fortnight as the Caley Jags crawl towards the finishing line having dropped four points against the bottom two sides. This has allowed Stenhousemuir to draw level on points at the top of the table and put the fans on edge after they ground out yet another result against a dominant Peterhead. One positive from the weekend was Alfie Stewart's stunning strike to open the scoring and will go down as our 100th strike of the season. Our squad in the disappointing home draw with Cove Rangers, our third draw in the last four games. A searing 100th goal of the season for the Caley Jags from Alfie Stewart set us on the way to victory....or so we thought before Demus was left unchallenged in the 95th minute to grab a welcome point for Cove. Last Six League1: W W D D W D We beat East Fife comfortably 3-0 and followed that with a win in our BBC Alba extravaganza at Broadwood (0-1). The next League game was that tough 1-1 draw with Stenny when we had Ben Brannan sent off with 20m left. On the Tuesday after we beat Ayr Utd 1-2 to progress into the KDM Trophy Final. A disappointing no scoring draw at Kelty followed where we struggled to create enough clear chances and allowed the pack to close in again before last weeks 3-1 home win over Montrose. With Stenny drawing and Alloa losing in midweek, we had a smidgeon of breathing space going into the home game against Cove but that was taken away by a goalkeeper. Balint Demus headed in an equaliser because we failed to put the game to bed when on top. A common theme throughout the season and one which Stenhousemuir took full advantage of by snatching a last minute winner at the weekend. Meh! Why have the goals dried up at a crucial stage of the season when we really need to put teams to the sword? A bit more composure against Cove would have been more beneficial and given us a comfortable three points, but we spurned too many good chances to ease our way to victory. I doubt we will find Peterhead any easier to beat with Peterhead nine points better off than Cove despite Cove beating them 2-1 recently. Liam Sole was missing on Saturday??? Peterhead's squad that lost to Stenhousemuir at the weekend. A late goal that saw a four point swing at the top as unknown to them at the time of scoring, Cove's keeper would snatch an unlikely point at the Caledonian Stadium deep into time added on. Last Six League1: D W W L W L Their last six started with a 1-1 D at Kelty. A comfortable 3-1 win at home to East Fife was followed by an even better result at Palmerston as they beat Queen of the South 0-2. They lost the North East derby at Cove 2-1 but bounced back by thrashing title contenders Alloa 3-1 last midweek. A narrow defeat to a last minute Ross Taylor free kick saw The Warriors win at Balmoor to pull level at the top of the table with the Caley Jags. Peterhead have taken 10 points from their last six games compared to the Caley Jags' 12 points. Jack Newman is their No1 keeper and Flynn Duffy is still at Balmoor. Former Aberdeen players Peter Pawlett, Cammy Smith and Niall McGinn are all experienced campaigners with plenty to offer and Jason Brown is a leader on the park. 21. Keeper Saves a Point There were no major injury worries for either side ahead of our League1 fixture at the Caledonian SarensPSG Stadium with both gaffers eying up maximum points from this one. Scott Kellacher was looking to stay ahead of the baying pack and Paul Hartley will have his sights set on overhauling Dick Campbell's free falling East Fife. Some key fixtures today with Accies hosting QotS, Stenhousemuir facing a treacherous visit to Peterhead and in the late televised game Montrose entertain Alloa Athletic. A big one at Cove's end of the table as well with bottom club Kelty at home to East Fife. All to play for... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Liam Sole was missing for Inverness and Balint Demus was favoured in goal for Cove with Robbie Mutch on the bench. Would that prove to be crucial? Well it appears so with Alfie Stewart notching our 100th goal of the season, up popped Demus with a header to level the game with the last play of the game. Two points thrown away in a game we should be looking to win. Scunnered much! We lost our lead at the top in a four point swing with Stenny scoring their winner in the 89th minute and Demus denying us at the death. Alloa looked likely to take full advantage scoring two first half goals to throw their hat into the ring but were pegged back before the break before a rampant Montrose ran out winners in a nine goal thriller. It's the Caley Jags way. Meh! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We were eager to get that 100th goal on a brisk afternoon and Joe Chalmers shot over in the second minute and Billy Mckay and Jordan Alonge both had 'goals' disallowed. Plenty early possession but little to show for it as Cove dug deep to keep us at bay. Oscar MacIntyre brought out a save from Demus in the visitors goal and Cooper Masson gave Ross Munro some work to do at the other end. Demus then saved low down from a Bavidge effort and Billy Mckay went close to the top corner as the pressure mounted towards the interval. That 100th goal was coming and it was a tremendous 25 yard plus left footer from Alfie Stewart when it came. His thunderbolt from outside the box found the top corner with the assist from Paul Allan's nod forward. Chris Maguire had the final effort of the half as his shot was blocked just before the break. HALF TIME: 1-0 Alonge failed to beat the keeper right at the start of the second half after a great ball from Billy Mckay put him in but Demus denied him, blocking inside the six yard box. Alonge then headed well over over from a scoring position inside the box off a corner on the left. On the hour O'Donnell went close and the subs started to flow thereafter. Wotherspoon shot wide for the hosts and Teasdale did the same for the visitors. Big chance for a big lad as Chanka Zimba saw his stretched effort clawed off the line following a flick from Alonge. Great save by the keeper to be honest! More subs followed as everyone thought we would be seeing out the game. Alas a late corner for Cove saw Demus come up into our box and who else but the keeper headed Cove level to claim a vital point as we threw two points down the drain. The mystery is why nobody challenged him as he was given the freedom of the box to nod home. Gutting! FULL TIME: 1-1 We can't say we have not been warned as these type of displays have been happening for weeks. Plenty of possession and shots etc but a one goal lead is never enough and today we paid the price for a lack of sharpness in front of goal. Not a great idea to ignore the Cove keeper in our box, he's a big chap and we paid the price for that defensive lapse. That's four points dropped against the bottom two sides in a fortnight. That's not the form of Champions as we crawl towards the finishing line. Yngwie on CTO: On 89 minutes we were gaining 2 points v Stenny, but a few minutes later they have actually gained 2 on us. Can’t do anything about their late winner but we can control our own performances and that was a very disappointing result. We should be winning games like this but often struggle to score goals. Howdenender on CTO: And so he (Kellacher) should look very unhappy, after another desperately poor performance against a team near the bottom of the table. Strongest squad in the league, full time players, we should be over the hill and out of sight by now, instead no consistency of selection and frankly baffling substitutions have us stumbling towards the finish line. Alan summed up: An insipid, inept performance from the entire team. It seems that when we play teams in the bottom part of the league the players think they can just turn up and the three points will automatically be handed out. 22. Century Seekers The second of three home games on the bounce has Cove Rangers visiting the Caledonian SarensPSG Stadium on Saturday with both sides looking to pick up maximum points for different reasons. Could it be a milestone weekend for the Caley Jags as they look to score their 100th goal in all competitions this season? Can we do it? Can Billy Mckay add to his 130 goal tally for the Caley? Congratulation to our top scorer Alfie Bavidge who was named SPFL League1 Player of the Month for February with three crucial goals. Jordan Alonge also deservedly got himself into the SPFL Team of the Week. The Caley Jags are unbeaten in their last 13 games over 90 minutes in all competitions, the last defeat was 2-1 at Montrose on 27th of December. Cove are battling for points at the wrong end of the table but pulled off a good win in the North East derby at home to Peterhead last Saturday. Peterhead then went on to thrash Alloa Athletic 3-1 on Tuesday night much to the delight of the top two in the table. Last Six League1: D L W D L W Cove started February with a decent 1-1 draw at home to QotS, Megginson the scorer. Ironically East Fife's only recent win was over Cove Rangers five games ago. However, every point is crucial as we all get down to the business end of the season and there are no easy games left for any side. Mitch Megginson is always a danger with his experience, as is former Aberdeen striker Chris Maguire. On loan Adam Emslie has pace and needs to be kept quiet. Keeper Robbie Mutch is in charge of the gloves at the moment since signing on at the start of this season and getting his chance in early September against the Caley Jags. 23. Alonge Seals the Deal The first of three home games on the trot starting with Montrose today followed by Cove next week then a midweek visit from Peterhead before a tough test at form side Alloa. Stenhousemuir joined us at the top of the table after beating Accies 1-0 in midweek. No room for errors now as we enter matchday 28 with the Warriors at Palmerston and Alloa at home to Kelty Hearts. We made hard work of breaking Montrose down from 25 yards to their keeper. Sharp made two or three really good saves, but we probably should have put four or five past them without needing the late goals. Always on edge until we got the third. Might have been less tense had the fans been playing the game, but it was a bit edgy sitting in the stand. Not sure we should have been conceding a penalty but we got there in the end. Billy Mckay opened the scoring midway through the first half showing good penalty box instincts to nip in and nick the ball into the net. Maybe a rash decision by Munro to concede the penalty from which Sutherland equalised five minutes after the break. Good work down the right set up Alfie Bavidge to knock us ahead and Jordan Alonge sealed the win at the death when Montrose were caught up the park chasing a point, keeper and all, as Jordan stroked into the unguarded net on a quick break down the left flank. The three points were better than the performance, but made even better with the news that Stenhousemuir dropped two points at Queen of the South although Alloa kept their challenge on track with a home win over Kelty Hearts. Happy Days! Jordan Alonge deserving of his MotM when others around him generally made a meal of things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A bright and breezy Caledonian Stadium met the players as they entered the field of play on matchday 28. The hosts made the early running and with only three minutes on the clock, Montrose keeper Harry Sharp pulled off a brilliant diving save to deny Billy Mckay at the back post after the striker lashed a shot goalwards from seven yards when he met a cross into the box from MacIntyre. The keeper guessed right and was on the move before Billy looked certain to score. There followed a massive goalmouth scramble before Sharp dived on the ball to end the siege. Plenty of possession without any real threats until Jordan Alonge had a goalbound header cleared out of a crowded six yard box by Williamson with quarter of an hour gone. A precision ball forward by the impressive Remi Savage set Alfie Bavidge free on the left side of the box but his shot across the keeper missed the target when a cut back might have been more beneficial. The chances were starting to flow and another teasing ball floated forward by Savage was met under challenge by Alonge and a defender. Billy Mckay at this point was still twenty-five yards from goal, but his poachers instinct saw him anticipate his next move when he met the ball as it landed in the space between the Sean Dillon and the keeper. Billy needed no reminder of what to do as he slipped the ball into the net. That woke the visitors up a bit and Taylor Sutherland brought Ross Munro into the game as he turned and shot from the edge of the box, Munro saving comfortably low to his left. Alfie Bavidge was close to adding a second after nicking the ball off a defender in the final third, however his parting shot from the inside left position was well saved by Sharp to his right. Just before the break Sharp denied Alonge as he rifled a low shot towards the bottom corner, the keeper spreading himself along the deck and grabbing the ball at the second attempt. HALF TIME: 1-0 A booking for Ben Brannan before the interval more than likely ended his game time with Calum MacLeod replacing him at the back. However, within minutes of the restart Montrose were level after Paul Allan lost the ball in an attack on the right side. Montrose swiftly transferred the ball forward with Sutherland beating the offside and he drew a rash foul in the corner of the box as Munro thought he would beat him to the ball but needlessly brought him down. Sutherland sent Munro the wrong way from the spot to restore parity. All a bit needless with Savage getting back into the box and Munro choosing the wrong option to tackle the forward just inside the top corner of the penalty box. We lost our way momentarily but Montrose never troubled us sufficiently and Alonge, leaping like a salmon, bounced a header just wide across the keeper before Sharp then had to save from MacIntyre a minute later as he burst into the box. Billy Mckay was next to be denied as he did everything right until he shot goalwards. He looked favourite to score but shot to the guarded side of the goal allowing the keeper to push away his fierce shot with three quarters of the goal wide open. Alfie Stewart was a bit unfortunate after driving forward through the middle, his shot from the edge of the box curling just over the bar with the keeper beaten. Liam Sole headed over as the pressure built on the visitors defence. Following a number of substitutions from both sides Inverness took the lead and it was a work of art orchestrated by David Wotherspoon with a defence splitting pass. Calum MacLeod was on the same wavelength and met his precise ball at the byeline and cut along it towards the goal where his pass into the box was slightly deflected by the outstretched toe of keeper Sharp right onto Bavidge's boot and he tapped in from five yards. A scare shortly after when Montrose thought they had equalised before spotting the linesman's flag was up for possibly a hand ball before hitting the net. Although ahead, we were still walking a tightrope before one last surge forward clinched the points. It came when Montrose swung a free kick into our box. A number of players tumbled over inside the box, one of those being the Montrose keeper before we played out from the left back position. Liam Sole picked up before the half way line then slipped a great ball forward to Alonge. He still had a lot to do but he remained calm to stroll forward before rolling the ball into the vacant net as keeper and defenders tried in vain to make up the ground whilst all in the North Stand held their breath. What a finish! Game over and three points finally secured in the ninety-fifth minute! 24. Home Run We embark on a run of three home games on the trot starting with Montrose on Saturday followed by Cove next week then a midweek visit from Peterhead before a tough test at form side Alloa. Not quite the seven away fixtures we endured either side of New Year, but a welcome break nonetheless, and maybe just at the right time after a disappointing performance and result at Kelty last weekend. Stenhousemuir joined us at the top of the table after beating Accies 1-0 in midweek. No room for errors now as we enter matchday 28. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Bar/Bus/Info KDM TICKETS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 🔴🔵⚽ 𝐏𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞 ⚽🔵🔴 If you're aged 12–17 and love ICT, this is your place to be before the game. Last Six League1: W D W W D D Faltering form over the last six League1 games starting with a win at Alloa (3-1). A hard fought draw at Palmerston next where we led twice before being pegged back in a quality 2-2 draw. We beat East Fife comfortably 3-0 and followed that with our BBC Alba extravaganza at Broadwood (0-1). The next League game was that tough 1-1 draw with Stenny when we had Ben Brannan sent off with 20m left. On the Tuesday after we beat Ayr Utd 1-2 to progress into the KDM Trophy Final. A disappointing no scoring draw at Kelty last week where we struggled to create enough clear chances has allowed the pack to close in again. That all adds up to 12 points in the last six outings for the Caley Jags, the same as Stenhousemuir but one less than form team Alloa. Montrose drew 1-1 with Kelty in midweek Euan Louden with the goal just on half time with Kelty drawing level through Lewis Moore twenty minutes from the end. Last Six League1 D D L W D D Six games ago Montrose drew 1-1 with Peterhead then 2-2 with Stenny. The solitary defeat was inflicted at Cove as Montrose went down 3-1. The win was a great result, 3-2 over QotS followed by a 1-1 draw at Accies. Last time out in midweek was the 1-1 draw with Kelty Hearts. That's 7 points over the last six games. Jambos loanee Callum Sandilands is one to watch. Back for his second season at Links Park, Callum has bagged 8 goals this season from his attacking midfield position. He made 18 appearances for Montrose scoring three times last season and is making an even bigger impact this season. Taylor Sutherland is next best goal getter with five to his name. Montrose are having a decent season sitting just outside the promotion play-off positions. At times this season they have produced runs as good as any in the division but inconsistency has kept them on the fringes. That being said, we have never really found the Gable Endies an easy side to get the better of, instead we just seem to plod on doing things the Caley Jags way. 25. A point apiece The sides have met twice this season already. An opening day 0-3 win for the Caley Jags back in August set us off on the road to recovery and a 2-2 draw in the Highlands showed that we can take nothing for granted. Jordan Alonge started after a great performance in midweek at Ayr United with Alfie Bavidge up front. Strong bench as back up as well although Ben Brannan was suspended. Kelty had re-signed Ross Cunningham from Stirling Albion and he scored a belter on his return last week. He will give the Maroons more potency going forward. Not the greatest first forty-five of the season with defences on top although it was the visitors that had the better of it with the hosts keeper Gourlay the busier of the two shot stoppers. At half time this was the only League1 game without a goal with Stenny, Alloa, Peterhead and Montrose all ahead by a single goal narrowing the gap at the top to three points. The second half was more of the same and it ended goalless at New Central Park. Stenhousemuir Alloa and Peterhead all gained ground on us with Accies and Montrose sharing the points. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New Central Park has not always generated full points for the Caley Jags who were hoping to make a better start to this game than they did when the sides last met in the Highlands, having to come from two down to earn a point back in October. Shoot on sight Alfie Stewart was first to have a go but his effort in the opening minutes was blocked. The early possession came from the visitors but there was little to enthuse over in the first fifteen minutes. Defences were on top and Kelty's Lewis Muir has his shot blocked inside the box, as did Innes Murray. Paul Allan glanced a header wide and with half an hour gone, neither keeper had been tested until Calum MacLeod brought Kyle Gourlay into action to deny the Caley Jags utility man with a save low down. The attempts were building now and Gourlay had to pluck a header from Jordan Alonge out of the air then Liam Sole shot wide following a swift counter ten minutes before the break. Ross Cunningham and Alfie Stewart exchanged blocked efforts and Adam MacKinnon joined the process, but his shot from distance was too high. Just before the interval we witnessed a save, Alfie Bavidge tested Gourlay in goal but a goal line clearance was the nearest we came just before the break when Sole fired off target from the clearance to sum up the first half perfectly, the ball landing in Old Central Park, Cowdenbeath HALF TIME: 0-0 An early second half booking for Remi Savage and the misses continued with Alonge shooting high and Cunningham having his shot blocked. On the hour Sole shot wide as the game swung from end to end. At last some action for Ross Munro as he saved from Cunningham who fired goalwards from outside the box. On came the cavalry with Billy Mckay and Luis Longstaff replacing Sole and MacKinnon. Gourlay denied Alonge with twenty minutes left and Stewart went close with a free kick but it remained level ten minutes from the end. It would be an edgy last few minutes with substitute Cammy Cooper having an effort blocked, but the game ended goalless in Kelty. FULL TIME: 0-0 A disappointing result against the bottom club but not an entirely unexpected scoreline. Will that be a crucial point come the end of the season? The best chances fell to the visitors. One just before the interval scooped off the line and Alonge might have done better than place his shot from 12 yards into the keepers midriff. A couple of inches away a few times from connecting with crosses but at the end of the day it was too little too late. Yngwie on CTO: Struggling to think of a better example of ‘2 points dropped’. Scrappy first half with a handful of half chances for us. A more dominant second half with a handful of clearcut chances and it’s incredible that we didn’t put any of them away, but some of the finishing was really poor. Great away support but we all left disappointed. 26. Top v Bottom Polar opposites meet at New Central Park Kelty as we head into matchday 27 for some in League1. Promotion and relegation are top of the agenda as the Caley Jags visit Kelty Hearts renewing the 'training ground derby' Aye, those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end... The sides have met twice this season already. An opening day 0-3 win for the Caley Jags back in August set us off on the road to recovery and a 2-2 draw in the Highlands showed that we can take nothing for granted. We had to come back from two down as Innes Murray scored twice for Kelty before Devine and Zimba squared the game early in the second half. To be honest, if they were good enough to eliminate an Ayr United XI it would be reasonable to expect them to be able to cope with bottom of the table Kelty Hearts. However, therein lies the stumbling block. I would expect Kelty to show more fight than Ayr did given their predicament. Last Six League1: W W D W W D Good form over the last six League1 games starting with a win at East Fife (0-2) & Alloa (3-1). A hard fought draw at Palmerston next where we led twice before being pegged back in a quality 2-2 draw. We beat East Fife comfortably 3-0 and followed that with our BBC Alba extravaganza at Broadwood (0-1). The last League game was that tough 1-1 draw with Stenny when we had Ben Brannan sent off with 20m left. On Tuesday night we beat Ayr Utd 1-2 to progress into the KDM Trophy Final where we will face Raith Rovers who beat Airdrie in a penalty shoot-out. Date and venue TBC. Brannan was eligible to play at Ayr, but he will be suspended for the game at Kelty. I wonder if Liam Sole might be left out as well considering he was fortunate not to receive a red card at Ayr as he pushed his head into an opposition players face with what looked like a fair bit of intent. Naughty boy. The KDM Trophy Final against Raith Rovers will be held at the 'NEUTRAL' venue of Firhill, Glasgow. For the removal of any doubt, that is FIRHILL PARK, GLASGOW. That's 58 miles from Starks Park and 170 miles from the Caledonian Stadium. Surely Perth was a better option? The final will go ahead at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill on Sunday April 5 and will be shown live on BBC ALBA, kick-off 4.10pm. Strewth!!! Kelty almost took all three points at Cove last week but for a late equaliser from their hosts ten minutes from the end. Last Six League1: D L L D D D Doesn't make for great reading but what you might expect for a team fighting to avoid relegation. They have stemmed the defeats and replaced them with draws. The first D was at home to Alloa (1-1) before two defeats to QotS (3-1) & Stenny (0-2). A decent 0-0 draw with Accies and 1-1 draws v Peterhead & Cove. Sandwiched in there, they put Cove out of the Scottish Cup on penalties away from home and gave a good account of themselves in a 2-0 defeat to the Pars in the Scottish Cup. So, not all doom and gloom as might have been suggested by the red and grey indicators. The defeats are against two of the top teams and they contained Alloa and Accies and were unfortunate not to take all three points at Cove. Beware the scalded cat!!! Attacking midfielder Ross Cunningham has returned to Kelty and scored on his second debut for the Fife club. Apparently he scored a screamer off the bench in the draw against Peterhead. Ross was last seasons player of the year for Kelty before he went to Stirling Albion. In his previous spell for the Maroons Ross made 73 apps and scored 20 goals, finishing joint top scorer in League1 for season 2024/25! Ricco Diack is their top scorer in the League this season with 6 goals but he has since returned to Partick Thistle.
