Interesting, isn’t it, the difference between the views of some people who take a central belt perspective and the local or locally sympathetic view.

I occasionally read his articles, when they reach the front page of the Grauniad's website.

I actually thought that was one of his better articles.  Until that bit

  2. We will be in Gran Canaria from 8-15 June, in a hotel which we've been to before.

That means our last night will be in front of a telly, watching the opening game.

This hotel is very popular with Germans   :scotland::hiding:

Do we not have the capability to negotiate a contract with a reasonable termination clause? If we have to constantly pay people for another 6, 12, or 18 months after agreeing to part ways then it would appear not.

As an employee, the longest notice period that I had was 3 months.  Sometimes it was a month.  Maybe it's different in football?

Perhaps the cash flow is so bad that they can't afford to pay anyone a lump sum, but have to keep them on the payroll for all of their notice period.   See also Robbo.

  4. Mods - please forgive me for posting this in the Caley Thistle forum.  It's just to ensure that people see it.  Please go ahead and lock the topic here if you wish.

If you are responding, then please either PM me, or reply to the "Olde Inverness" thread at https://caleythistleonline.com/topic/36270-any-info-about-roddy-fraser-inverness-thistle-1920s/

    ----

Does anyone here have any information about Roddy Fraser, who was the Jags' left-back and captain in the 1920s?

I met one of my wife's relatives last week, who is Roddy Fraser's great-nephew, and who would be keen to know more about him.

I have found a 1924-25 team photo of Thistle on Am Baile.  And also the story from last year of one of his medals turning up at auction, and then being returned to another great-nephew, Roddy Dyce.

He's also included in team listings for Inverness selects in the 1920s.  But no one has written a proper history of Thistle.

Any more information will be gratefully received!

Plenty of folk who are not football fans or not ICT fans saying 'whats the big deal' but almost to a man (or woman) they live south of Perth (as do the ICT fans who are in support of the move).

My wife and I were in Stenhousemuir last weekend, visiting her relatives.  They are big Stenny fans, but they thought that the proposed move was a "disgrace" and a "joke".  The Warriors are very closely integrated into the community there.

And I'm about 450 miles south of Perth, and I'm certainly not in support of the move!

Could the arrangement not be that Kelty FC would block book the pitch from Fife Council then charge us for using it?

Just like any leasing arrangement, there are probably legal conditions about sub-letting or about the use of the ground.

Fife Council would not want Kelty to do anything which would reflect badly on the council - like, say, rent it out for a Reform Party rally.   :hiding:

At the very least one of the first things that ICT should have done was to make sure that Kelty had the legal right - or permission - to enter into this agreement.

As it is, clearly Kelty have either implicitly or explicity given ICT the impression that that is the case, and so ICT should be able to walk away from it if Kelty don't have that right.  Though IANAL, as the saying goes.

B***dy hell, I've just seen that the Provost of Fife is Jim Leishman!  That Jim Leishman.  Former manager of Inverness Thistle.

Can someone no' have a wee word in his shell-like?

Lots of individuals in the room who own shares and have businesses that own shares who were calling for a boycott.  I can't see there being any law that would prevent such a thing.

It was highlighted by someone that anti boycott laws refer only to public bodies which got looks of confusion from the trust board and they said they would look into it.

I don't think it really matters in the grand scheme of things as the message that fans want to see a boycott was made clear and the trust did not oppose that.  It just seems that if supporters trusts don't have the power to endorse or call for such action then it seriously weakens what they can do in these situations.

The Bill which was passed earlier this year applies only to public bodies.  Given that consumer groups and other pressure groups call for boycotts, I can't see any reason why the Trust couldn't.  Though I guess that there would always be the possibility of legal action, if the boycotted organisation was so minded.

There's also a very faint possibility that the Trust may end up talking to club management.  In which case, if the Trust had called for a boycott, then that would make discussions that much more difficult. So a stance of neither formal approval nor formal disapproval seems fine.

To summarise, the vast majority of the room appeared to strongly favour administration as their preferred outcome by the time the meeting concluded.  I know I know, sounds mad but it seemed the best option to get our club back, and we fully accepted the implications.

Understandable.  I hope it was pointed out that administration is no guarantee that the club will continue.  If assets have to be sold to pay off the creditors....

There is a good chance that with our new pool of player recruitment, we gain promotion in the same season where we also win the battery farm appeal.

You obviously missed what I said the other day.  If the team - I am not saying "we" - wins promotion, then SG & co will claim that it is due to the move.

And the team will NEVER move back to Sneck.

Wimbledon did something similar when they became MK Dons.....

...I doubt too many Wimbledon fans care about MK Dons' results.

I  don't think there were any monetary issues behind the move to Milton Keynes.  Other than the (foreign?) owners of Wimbledon thinking that they'd make more money in MK.

That led directly to the creation of AFC  Wimbledon.

I just want what's best for the club, and that is the club going back up the leagues again.  This is a clearly a positive step

You realise that if, by some miracle, this move is a success and we start moving up again, then management will claim that it is because of the move...  and the team will  NEVER move back to Inverness?

Where the first team players train and where they come from is irrelevant.  They are still playing and representing Inverness.  They will still play all their home games in Inverness.  They will be wearing Inverness jerseys.  The youth squad will train in inverness.  The operations will be based in Inverness.

They will be a Fife-based team who just happen to play on a pitch in Inverness every couple of weeks.

We can finally attract any Central Scotland based player that we can afford.

I would remind you that the first word of the club's name is "Inverness".

I said recently that I hoped to support my home town team for years to come.

This is now simply NOT MY TEAM.

  15. So what's the current thinking about artificial pitches, and how that might affect our squad?  We'll be playing a lot of games on them.

It used to be said that there was greater injury risk, perhaps because of the ability to change direction more quickly (ie too quickly).  Also that it was harder on joints.  Is this still true with more modern pitches?

I know we've rested players in the past rather than put them out on an artificial pitch.  What are the implications for our older players, such as Billy, and Aaron Doran if he was fit?
