  1. So getting promoted means we have six games fewer than last season. Not everyone will agree, but I think that's a good thing.
  2. Must have played better than he did on this day 11 years ago!
  3. Was there, with my wife from Falkirk, and some of her relatives. But since they are all Stenny supporters, they were either neutral or supporting us too! One of them had money on Marley to score the first goal, so she was well pleased. I think I've only watched the DVD once since then, but I remember getting very nervous during the second half, even though I knew well how it would end
  4. We'll just have to hope that none of our players is involved in the last eight of the World Cup
  5. From the club's announcement: "Shinnie then captained Aberdeen to the 2025 Scottish Cup, 10 years after his success with Caley Thistle, becoming the first man to captain two different sides to Scottish Cup victories." Is that true? Really? Going all the way back to 1874? Wow!
  6. I would settle for survival - of the club as a whole, and remaining in the Championship!
  7. I remember it well, too. We were visiting my wife's family in Falkirk/Stenny. I watched the ICT game on the telly, and then got dragged to Ochilview to see Stenny take on arch-enemies Cowdenbeath in the 2nd leg of the play-off final for promotion from Division Three. 0-0 from the first leg. It was a bloody freezing day there, and since my wife's cousin was the volunteer Stenny club photographer, I had to accompany him to what was in those days the completely exposed - and empty - far side of the pitch. He handed me his old camera, and warned me that it had significant shutter lag. It was a dreadful game, with no one scoring, and serious frostbite setting in. Still at 0-0 after 120 minutes, it went to penalties. which Stenny won 5-4. I became a local hero by capturing the winning penalty going into the net past the diving keeper. By that time I had worked out the shutter lag, and IIRC I pressed the button just as the penalty taker was about to hit the ball. The picture has long gone, but they still have a report of the match online - https://www.stenhousemuirfc.com/match/stenhousemuir-fc-v-cowdenbeath-3/ However, in the summer, Livingston were demoted from the First to the Third Division after going into administration and liquidation. This resulted in Cowdenbeath being promoted as well as Stenny. So I could have stayed in the warmth and nursed my misery.
  8. But of course we know that won't happen. In fact, thinking about it, I would be surprised if anyone was docked points, because they're not going to do it to Celtic, are they? And it would be grossly unfair to any smaller club to have points deducted when Celtic escape after a pitch invasion like that. Probably fines then, if anything. Of course, I could be too cynical, or too trusting. We shall see.
  9. Been there, done that, got the League title But would be a whole different matter if we had to start off in the Championship on a negative number.
  10. So it's taken them over two weeks to say that we're under investigation? Have to ask if any of this would have happened if the Celtic fans hadn't brought their game to a premature end, and got themselves all over the national UK news? Would look really good for Scottish football if their champions and two promoted teams started next season behond closed doors. (And I have no idea what happened at the Accies v Clyde game.)
  11. Four men arrested and charged, but I didn't see the outcome.
  12. One of my wife's relatives once explained to me that Stenny stayed afloat thanks to the income from their plastic pitch, which was hired out and in use practically every day or night of the week. This was back in the days before they did any ground-sharing, which will also bring in money. They also have a couple of 5-a-side artificial pitches at one end of the ground. That was a few years ago, so I don't know what the current situation is. Looking at their average crowd size, you can see that they might well struggle in the Championship.
  13. The SPFL statement released today notes that going onto the pitch has been a criminal offence in England and Wales for 35 years. Just sayin'...
  14. I came in too late and missed the Alloa goal. But from the few minutes that I saw, Stenny must be favourites to go straight back down. They were on the ropes, and playing no football at all.
  15. You must be pretty sure there's no Alloa supporters here
  16. And if you have to look at it from 100 angles for 5 minutes then it's not clear and obvious to the VAR official either
  17. Relax. It's in Malta. https://sport.timesofmalta.com/2026/04/24/77-sports-announces-major-investment-in-newly-promoted-birzebbuga-st-peters/ My wife has just observed: "Ah yes. The home of dodgy finance and money laundering." . Mods, if you feel this is more suitable for "General Nonsense", feel free...
  18. "Football, bloody hell!"
  19. Still worried? Twice as much? I know - still a l-o-n-g way to go...
  20. BBC saying we have Billy and Spoony in the starting line-up. Hoping experience will put us well in front in the 60 or so minutes that they will last?
  21. If only there was a flat patch of grass somewhere, say 115 x 75 yds, where you could get everyone on the ground to stay behind a barrier And, of course, if there's a helicopter landing on it, that means it won't be needed again for a while., so no worries about damage...
  22. My flabber has been well and truly gasted
  23. I did add after my comment! SPFL office junior gets despatched to local trophy shop with orders to come back with change from £20.
  24. Another one here. Asked for a PSA test about 15 months ago, aged 68. In the UK there is no screening programme, and GPs are not supposed to suggest it if you have no suspicious symptoms. But if you are over 50 you can request a test. The GP, as she should, asked why I wanted one, and I said I had two reasons - the first was simply my age, and the second was that two of my contemporaries from school had just died of prostate cancer. GP did the rectal exam - the finger up the backside - which is nothing to be concerned or embarrassed about. Nothing found. The first PSA test suggested something was up, and a second one gave nearly the same score. Next step was an MRI scan - I fell asleep in the scanner, despite the noise it was making - and a biopsy. The biopsy is undignified, uncomfortable rather than painful, and it's over in half an hour. Local anaesthetic , so you can have a good natter with the medical staff whilst it's under way. Long story short, I had a small amount of hopefully slow-growing cancer. We agreed that I would go onto "active surveillance" - no treatment, just regular PSA tests. That was a year ago, and the most recent tests indicate my score increasing, so I'm just waiting for my appointments for my next scan and biopsy. I actually want to know what the current situation is. Bottom line is that there's nothing to fear. On the day I was given my diagnosis, my wife asked me how I felt. My reply was "This morning, I had cancer, but didn't know. Now, I have cancer, but I do know, I know how much, and I know it will be monitored. So I'm infinitely better off than I was this morning.". There are bound to be several here who don't know. Get yourself tested!
  25. I'm picturing an SPFL helicopter parked at Blair Athol, ready to fly the trophy to either Inverness or Montrose
