  1. I can only go by the BBC text and stats, but that looks like a hard fought result.  A draw away from home against a team in the division above us - can't be bad, and must encourage the team.

I thought that we were in for it when we went behind just after the restart (again!), and then went 2-1 down. But fortunately I was wrong.

Will be interested to hear what the football was like.

Why on earth should we be concerned about the viability of any club other than our own ?

I agree we shouldn't be "concerned", as in "worried". But it could well be worth understanding how they keep afloat, because we might be able to learn something from them!

Unless somebody at the club could take them and put them on display at the stadium. They won't fetch much money wise.

I'd agree with that. There are a few Highland League programmes on eBay with starting prices of about 75p.

Picking up on the point about putting them on display - did anyone ever take over from Ian Broadfoot as club historian?  When I was clearing out the family home years ago, I found some old photos of Thistle, including one which claimed to be from the 1890s, and - we worked out - would be the oldest known photograph of Thistle.

I left them at the stadium for Ian - foolishly without making copies - and shortly after than he told me he was leaving because he had just moved to Perth.  So I have no idea what happened to these photos. Long since discarded, I expect.

I'll be sad to see him go along with my 8 year old son ...

Great servant to the club he may have been, but it can't be right that he gets to take supporters' children when he leaves???

  5. No, I'm not joking.  How bad can Fort William be?

I saw Thistle get into double figures once or twice in the late 60s, when they were coming to their peak. I think I remember 11 against Huntly. Can't remember who the others were (though Brora might have been candidates back then.)

But 16?  When did a Highland League team last score 16?

  6. If anyone collects old programmes, there is one from this match on eBay just now. Ends Monday 27th at 22:28 GMT. Currently (Sunday 26th, 19:08) at £11.55. Two people have bid so far.

There's only a photograph of the front, but it looks to be in good condition - much better than mine.

  8. I'm not a shareholder, so all I have seen is the online statement, but that looks to me to be an open and honest summary of the inherited and current situations, and the aspirations for the future.  Well worth reading.   Communication doesn't win matches, but it surely wins hearts and minds.

Interesting: "The company has reported a loss of £422K for the year ended 31 May 2017. It is the inevitable consequence of relegation. The club had budgeted to finish 7th..."  So, with a brand new, untried manager, the previous regime had expected to match Yogi's last season, and finish 7th.  Optimistic - though of course that's with the benefit of hindsight.

All in the past now, though. We seem to be in sensible hands.

Good photos, that's a BSA Bantam which would have been popular then.  I am sure that would have been an adventure holiday

Thanks, IBM.  I had been thinking of posting a couple of photos of the bike on the IBM Transport thread, as a bit of a joke.  Now I see that the joke would have been on me!

My Dad was very patriotic, and bought British whenever he could. All our cars were British-made - mostly Vauxhalls, and also a Hillman Minx and, unfortunately, a Morris Marina.

When they were in the Rifle Club in Inverness, Dad's gun HAD to be a BSA, whereas my Mum was more than happy with her Anschutz.

The old one in the black & white photo entering Scrabster harbour was also St Ola and entered service in 1951 with the vehicles being loaded with the (derek) crane onboard

In 1954 or 55 - before I was around - my parents had a motorbike/camping holiday in Orkney. The photos below show their bike being unloaded at Stromness, and the winchman.  There is also a postcard with that b/w pic of the St Ola.

Big cup game on the Saturday after, hence why low key and our fringe players more likely to be involved?

Well, you said it yourself - "Big cup game on the Saturday after".

So the derby is a chance to try out players, with no consequences for cup or league. And it minimises the risk of injury to vital players needed for the cup game.

Yes, the downside is that it would be another chance for the first team to gel.

In the continuing spirit of pedantry, the name of the club they would have supported for most of the time was indeed Inverness Caledonian. The geographical prefix was only shed in the 1980s as a consequence of the club falling out with the council when they failed to facilitate a planned move to a proposed new ground in the Carse.

Fair enough. If I wasn't so lazy I'd have checked Alex Main's book first.  However, my old season ticket below suggests that your date is not quite right.

Having checked Alex Main's book and a few other sources, I see little to suggest that the club was ever formally called Inverness Caledonian. Pictures of league flags and programmes from all eras invariably say just "Caledonian", apart from one programme from 1991-92 on the Caley Nostalgia website, which says "Inverness Caledonian". The club is always referred to as just "Caledonian" or "Caley" by Alex Main, and by Bill McAllister in his history of the Highland League. CB's "Against All Odds" is no help at all
