  1. 100% agree. Has anyone actually seen Steven Pressley have a good game in the last 2 years? There are reasons for players not playing when fully fit! If Munro turns like a barge, Pressley moves like tectonic plates. What's happened to the "if he's not good enough for the Celtic reserve team, he's not good enough for our first team" attitude? Avoid :018:
  2. 1984-1987 DATE OF BIRTH Thursday, 24th May 1956 PLACE OF BIRTH Lochore DEBUT Saturday, 25th August 1984 in a 1-1 draw at Arsenal (Aged: 28) CLUB CAREER 74 League apps, 3 goals When Chelsea agreed to pay Aberdeen ?150, 000 to sign defender Doug Rougvie in the summer of 1984, they acquired a player who's CV from his time in Scottish football made impressive reading. A member of Alex Ferguson's team who had beaten Real Madrid to win the European Cup Winners Cup a year earlier, 'Big Dougie' had also won two Scottish Championship medals, three Scottish Cup winners medals and had just been awarded his first international cap. Making his debut at left-back against Arsenal on the opening day of the 1984-85 season, Rougvie's Chelsea career got off to an impressive start as he gave a stirring exhibition of tackling against Arsenal's international stars, one ferocious 50/50 challenge on right-back Viv Anderson, which catapulted the England man into the air, being met with rapturous applause from the Chelsea following. The cheery Scotsman quickly attained cult status on the terraces with some solid displays but it was on his next visit to north London that the flaws in his game became apparent as Tottenham's speedy winger John Chiedozie tormented him mercilessly, exposing in the process a lack of pace and a tendency to make impetuous challenges when left exposed. Clearly affected by the experience, Dougie was dropped from the side three weeks later and when he returned in the new year he was again the fall guy as he conceded a needless last minute penalty in a League Cup quarter-final tie at Hillsborough that enabled Sheffield Wednesday to snatch a draw after Chelsea had fought back from three goals down. A month later Dougie's torrid season took a further twist as a facial injury received in a clash with Southampton's Joe Jordan left him on the sidelines for a further six weeks. Although he regained his place in the team as the following season began, Rougvie never recaptured his best form and was soon dropped again, effectively being consigned to the role of bit part player thereafter. He did, however, return to the side in time to play at Wembley against Manchester City in the inaugural Full Members Cup Final. He scored too, beating his own goalkeeper Steve Francis with a neat header! After another fruitless season, making just thirteen appearances in 1986-87, Chelsea signed the England under-21 left-back Tony Dorigo and Dougie brought the curtain down on his eventful Chelsea career when he signed for Brighton the following summer for ?73, 000 Have to say, this doesn't make Rougvie sound like an unqualified success. And Chelsea and the Premier League in 84/85 were a long way short of the standard of today. What's Russell Anderson got to do with it anyway?
  3. More likely to go to Bournemouth, once they start sorting out their financial problems. No chance he's coming to Inverness. Is dating Amy Macdonald interestingly. Or not.
  4. I think a sense of perspective is required here. I'm sure that the millions of human beings who died under fascist rule in Europe, would dispute that 21st century shopping choice is in any way similar to being part of the largest act of genocide in history. Freedom of choice anyone? :018:
  5. I'm feeling magic - train from Glasgow Queen St in an hour, travelling with 5 Aberdeen fans, drinking red wine and guinness, drunk by 12.00, game of fitba this afternoon - what's not to like? :021:
  6. Tin Can Fan, much as admire your unflagging attempts to come up with new and exciting team formations, they just aren't going to work, are they? Wilson is still at St Johnstone to my knowledge, and McAllister in midfield??????? Hang on - you are Craig Brewster in disguise, non? I claim my reward :004:
  7. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ury/7316416.stm Does anyone know how this guy looked in training? I'm guessing we couldn't do anything with him until the season finishes anyway, no matter how good/bad he was.
  8. Couldn't agree more with RIG comments - Gretna have been mince this season, barring a couple of games against United, and matches against the Old Firm, where players were obviously putting themselves in the shop window. Why on earth would we want to sign any of these guys? I mean, on loan at Newcastle Blue Star, from an SPL club? Give me a break! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...tna/7312756.stm
  9. The musical accompaniment to the "when we were champions" clip is Carnival De Paris by Dario G. It was brought out for the World Cup in France in 1998, and has been omnipresent ever since. Kilmarnock put it to good use 4 times on Saturday in fact...... :029: :029: :029: :029:
  10. Does this look like a man enjoying himself? :004: http://www.caleyjags.com/pa/g0708/080322Ki...nock/index.html
  11. Can we please stop calling for Steve Paterson, John Robertson to return as manager? Surely, Caley are right in the middle of proving that returning to a former club doesn't, and will never, work? Kevin Keegan at Newcastle anyone? And if Bobby Williamson or Terry Butcher pitch up at our club with good old route one football, the clamour to get rid of them will start even quicker than with Brewster. Both have failed in every post they have held bar Williamson at Kilmarnock (10+ years ago) and Butcher at Motherwell (even Brew couldn't have messed up from that starting position and with such good, young talent). Just take a look at Chester and Brentford's results in League Two this season to confirm my worst fears. Unfortunately, I cannot suggest a suitable candidate as Brewster's replacement - Neale Cooper would be a possibility, but there's always the "County link" problem. Ho hum.
  12. [ If you are talking about the 1-5 game against Morton in the late 90s, I was actually there at that Friday evening game at Crappielow. Yeah it was a pish result, but I don't remember driving back up the A9 thinking we hadn't tried. Changed days now. My point exactly - we did try in the Morton game, although I think that some players had an eye on the upcoming Challenge Cup Final against Alloa. Also, getting humped in those days was a novelty, and much easier to dismiss as an aberration. Saturday, unfortunately, was not an aberration, it was the norm.
  13. 0 all round - worse than the Morton and Airdrie games. If you don't know, f***ing look them up. A new low in our short history. 1 of 147 in attendance. Says it all - ashamed, we all should be! :32: :32: If I could sing/stand up/invade the pitch at Caley Stadium, i would knock off the clown's hat. Brewster, next weekend beware, I will be right behind you.
  14. Will they be the first teamin Scotland to be docked ten points? I believe so, although we all know that creative accountancy at Livingston was the only reason that they avoided it a couple of seasons ago. Dundee and Motherwell were also spared, due to the rule being brought in after they had gone into administration. no relegation if Gretna go bust. they would be deemed the relegated team. I firmly believe that even though this is the case, that they should relegate a second team from the SPL. This would make it fair on all the teams duped by Gretna last season. 2 up, 2 down should always be the rule. It would certainly give our players the rocket up the ar*e they currently require. And isn't that what we're all moaning about? :017:
  15. Get in!there, you averagely-mobile Romanian beauty.
  16. John Barnes has expressed surprise at how slow Niculae is tonight. Tonight????? He must be moving round the pitch on all fours to be even slower than usual!
  17. AM, as we discussed at the game on Saturday, I reckon the connection is the east coast. Graham Bayne played a season for Arbroath in 2001/02 - however, this was after Webster has signed for Hearts. Webster was born in Dundee, another of Bayne's ex clubs. However, having said that, maybe he just has impeccable taste, or wants his son to grow up supporting a proper team :004:
