1. I have 2 guesses :015:

Guess 1 = Jimmy Calder - I seem to remember him playing in goal for the opposition in a friendly or testimonial.

Guess 2 = Kevin Byers - for some reason, I seem to think he may have played against us in a friendly when the opposition didnt have enough players ......

  2. Technically, I guess he played for CALEDONIAN THISTLE not INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE ... but thats just semantics as far as I am concerned.

SATURDAY 1st APRIL 1995, FIRS PARK, FALKIRK - BELLS SCOTTISH LEAGUE THIRD DIVISION

    EAST STIRLING 1 (Geraghty 2)

    CALEDONIAN THISTLE 0

EAST STIRLING - McDougall, Watt, R. Lee, Stirling, Sneddon, Ross, I. Lee, Hunter (Millar 84), Geraghty, Cuthbert (Abercromby 68), Dwyer

    Sub - Moffat

CALEDONIAN THISTLE - McRitchie, Brennan, McAllister, Scott, Noble, Hastings, Mitchell, Lisle, Urquhart (Robertson 68), Christie (Hercher 61), MacMillan

    Sub - Calder

REFEREE - Mr A Freeland (Aberdeen)

    ATTENDANCE - 394

REPORT - This game started badly for Caley Thistle when they lost a goal in 2 minutes. The goal came as a result of a poor defensive clearance from a Robert Lee shot - it fell to Geraghty who blasted the ball high into the net. Veteran striker Billy Urquhart nearly equalised 6 minutes later but his shot was brilliantly saved by McDougall. At the other end Lee Cuthbert came close for East Stirling. The visitors efforts at snatching an equaliser resulted in a Christie header being cleared off the line and a Mitchell shot hitting the post. In the second half Mitchell again came close but McDougall saved well. The home side created a number of chances but their finishing was poor.

TUESDAY 11th APRIL 1995, TELFORD STREET PARK, INVERNESS -

    BELLS SCOTTISH LEAGUE THIRD DIVISION

    CALEDONIAN THISTLE 0

    ALBION ROVERS 2 (Thomson 26, Scott 84)

CALEDONIAN THISTLE - McRitchie, S. MacDonald, McAllister, Hercher, Noble (Sweeney 8), Sanderson (McCraw 61), Mitchell, Scott, Urquhart, Christie, MacMillan

ALBION ROVERS - Wight, Dolan, Gallagher, Wilcox, Ryan, Deeley, Thomson, J. McBride, Scott, Young (Quinn), Beattie

    Sub - M. McBride

    REFEREE - Mr G Mitchell (Arbroath) ATTENDANCE - 491

REPORT - This re-arranged match took place on a cold Tuesday night and Albion recorded only their fifth win of the season. The opening goal came in 26 minutes when Martin Scott ran from midfield before passing to Thomson who scored from the edge of the box. At the other end a Colin Mitchell shot was cleared off the line by Ryan and Wight denied the home side when he saved at the feet of Charlie Christie. In the second half Caley Thistle were denied what many thought was a clear cut penalty when Colin Mitchell was sandwiched in the area. Albion pressed forward and a superb Joe McBride 30 yard drive crashed off the post. The second goal for Albion came 6 minutes from time when Scott scored after a good solo effort.
SATURDAY 13th MAY 1995, TELFORD STREET PARK, INVERNESS - BELLS SCOTTISH LEAGUE THIRD DIVISION

    CALEDONIAN THISTLE 1 (Hercher 72)

    QUEEN'S PARK 1 (McCormack 19)

CALEDONIAN THISTLE - McRitchie, Brennan, McAllister, Hercher, C.Sinclair, Bennett, Mitchell, Lisle (Christie 55), McCraw (Urquhart 70), Holmes, Robertson

    Sub - Edgar

    REFEREE - Mr M. F. Pocock (Aberdeen) ATTENDANCE - 640

MAN OF THE MATCH - Mark Holmes (Caledonian Thistle)

REPORT - Sergei Baltacha's last game as Caley Thistle manager was a disappointment. In 15 minutes Queens nearly scored but Ross Caven's angled drive was tipped away by McRitchie. Three minutes later McAllister came close at the other end but a minute after that Queens took the lead. Gary Orr's pass into the box was collected by Steve McCormack who scored from 15 yards. There were few real chances in the game but in 79 minutes the home side equalised. Alan Hercher scored with a header after a Bennett cross was flicked on by Billy Urquhart. Caven nearly scored for Queens a few minutes later but his 15 yard effort went wide. Queens were then awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after McRitchie was penalised for breaching the four steps rule. The 'keeper turned the free kick away for a corner but was booked for his continued protests.
3. yup - I knew there would be questions about that (which is why i included appearance totals in brackets), but Ian Broadfoot's stats show that he started 2 matches and came on as a sub in a third ..... mind you thats 3 more matches than Billy remembered when it was mentioned on Sportsound during the season .....

  4. While I agree that no one player is mightier than the ship, if we were to lose 4 (or more) in one go it would be difficult for Charlie to fill all those holes easily.

I trust Grassa and Charlie to come up with the goods and hope they can persuade those contemplating a move to stay with us and if they cant keep them, to get good replacements. I also trust our chairman to be a hard man to bargain with if the grocer or any other chairman comes looking to unsettle our players or pick them up for bargain basement prices.

For what its worth .... here's my tuppenceworth

Dargo - 20 goal strikers are not easy to find. We do NOT have anyone in our squad that would fill this position alongside Denzil. Charlie would have to find a player to do this and thats not easy to do. Dargo wasnt exactly prolific before he came to us, and even when he first arrived it took a long time to get off the mark but look at him now ... very difficult to find a player you think can do it and then be proved right ....

Black - The return of Liam Keogh towards the end of last season eased the pain of Black's absence through injury and the same would be the case if he were to go, but I would quite like to see them play together in our midfield ... a pair of terriers.

Dods - Again, hard to replace as he is 'the machine', but Caff would ease the pain as he is capable of slotting into that spot. We also have Golly, Hastings, Proctor*, Tokely and Munro in our defensive unit so painful though it might be, we could get over this loss.

Proctor - He is Rossco's understudy and as we have seen Caff can also play at RB. I think he will continue to develop and although I would like him to stay, he would be the easiest to replace.

Brown - Michael Fraser has shown himself to be an able deputy, but is he capable of being first team keeper week in and week out ? I dont know, I have never seen him play.

  5. If indeed they both leave their respective clubs it is a shame. Both Butcher and Mowbray have been a breath of fresh air because of their ability to talk out of their mouths instead of their erses like some of the other managers around .... I have respect for them both.

OK, now the niceties are over .... It's time for IHE to trot out the contenders .... Hendry, Gough, Lambert, O'Neil, Burley ..

  6. the restructuring will involve ownership of Dens Park, the club’s biggest single asset, being switched to a property company. Crucially, however, control of the stadium will be retained by Dundee under a long-term lease.

Sounds like they are using a similar plan to that which David Sutherland brought to ICT when we were several millions in the red ..... if the new board can do as good a job as our chairman did in steadying the ship and trying to make sure the books start to balance then it could be onwards and upwards again for DFC ..... good luck.

  7. Ok - the test worked :)

I will try to 'adjust' it slightly so that we can fit it into next season's features. Dont worry if it disappears from the menu during the close season, it will definitely be back !!

  8. OK - I think this has passed the 'taste test' .... It seems to work, although, I did have to enter 1 result to test it so have a 4 point lead on everyone .... that lead will be resolved when the actual result is entered as the table will be recalculated !!!

This is how it works .....

    • Click on the 'World Cup Predictor' link on the left menu (will appear later)

    • You will be taken to a screen that shows all the results and has a list of all games. (as mentioned above, game 1 has points issued already but that was for testing and will be automatically recalculated when the actual score is entered)

    • There will be a menu on the right side that allows you to enter predictions, view results (default page you are looking at) and also view the prediction table. It will also show you the next game and the top 20 predictors.

    • You DO NOT need to register, all users are automatically registered using their site login ID - you can take part or not, its up to you.

    • To enter a prediction, click on the 'enter predictions' link and then on the team names of the game you want to predict. You may also alter predictions in here up until game time.

    • Enter your half-time / full-time predictions.

    • To view the leaderboard click on 'Prediction Table' - you should also be able to click on a user's name to view their predictions (but I havent fully tested that yet !)

    • SCORING - You get 2 points for each part of your prediction that is correct and a bonus if you get the exact score. Points awarded as follows.

      • Predict correct overall result regardless of score - W/L/D = 2 pts
      • Predict correct HT / FT goals for home team = 2 points for each part you get right
      • Predict correct HT / FT goals for away team = 2 points for each part you get right
      • Predict exact score - I can set this one of two ways - a fixed score of say 10 ... or my preference which is to base the score on how many predicted a result and how many got it right ..... I will let the users decide what they prefer (please comment below) ..... If its a set value, then you get 10 points for an exactly correct result however, if we want the potentially more exciting method then the points are shared out between those who get it right and multiplied by a 'factor' !! ... for example, if 100 people enter a prediction for this match and 25 get it right, the 25 'winners' would get (100/25)* 'factor'. We have set the factor to 5 so in this example that would mean all those who predicted the correct result would get (100/25)*5 or 20 points .... if only 10 people got it got it right, they would get 50 points, if only 1 person got it right, then they would get 500 points !!!
      • [*]Table generation - table generation is automatic. One of the admins will enter the scoreline from each match into the system and it will score it automatically. There is no restriction on changing your entries up to game time but the system will 'close' predictions when the game is ready to kick-off.

[*]As this is a prediction league for the World Cup, there may be updates to this module prior to the start of the competition - I will install any updated versions that are released until a few days before the start of the WC, so am telling all users this fact in advance just in case any of the updates cause any predictions to go astray or become corrupted. It will be the USER'S responsibility to check their own predictions before the WC kicks off to ensure that they are all recorded as desired.

  9. It was mentioned on another thread .... but one factor in increasing the crowd sizes is to get season tickets available for sale before the end of the current season.

If safety from relegation is assured then it is reasonable to expect that the prices be announced 2 or 3 games before the end of that season ... give fans till the end of the season for 'early bird' specials, give them a few weeks after that to confirm first refusal on their existing seat(s), get a package together that is mailed out to existing ST holders or available to new or potential ST holders that not only has ticket prices but also includes details of the hospitality offers available for the next season ... in short, MARKET the club to an audience who are already (in most cases) pre-disposed to take these offers up .....

I would also like to see the club take a leaf out of Aberdeen's book and implement a voucher scheme for non season ticket holders .... attendance at 'lesser' games would then be required to qualify for tickets for games against Hearts, Celtic, Rangers (and maybe even our 'local rivals' Aberdeen !) etc. This would have no effect on the crowd for the 'big' games, but might add a few thousand bums on seats over the season for games against the likes of St Mirren, Falkirk, Dunfermline etc

  10. Personally - if it were me, and I DID suggest this to the club when the photo of the 'alledged' new kit first emerged on the Internet, I would pressure ERREA into supplying 3 or 4 samples of the new strip so that the club could officially launch it ASAP .... OK, they may not physically get the stock until a later date, but they could get it onto the club shop site so that pre-orders could be taken ... if the final strip resembles the photo that was displayed (briefly) a few times, I think it will be our best selling top EVER.

Whats my basis for this ? ...... When the original online club shop was launched (3 seasons ago) all that was on it was a graphic representation of the new strip which was to be launched a few weeks later. Within the first 2 or 3 weeks, so many pre-orders were taken that the club had to order a load more from Errea just so they could have some to sell in the shop !!!

  11. It probably spells the end for the Lynx. Their support was never really that great anyways. I doubt they'll survive 2 years now.
I am surprised they have survived this long ... I went to a few games when I first came over but stopped going because they play in the middle of nowhere and it was so hard to get to the 'stadium' on public transport .... When i worked downtown, I didnt need a car and it used to take nearly 90 minutes or more on the TTC to get there and another 90 to get back ... The quality of the football was mediocre, and they played in Livi colours so as far as I was concerned, they had nothing going for them .... except a few of the supporters I met who were sound enough guys.
  12. Missed that announcement ... knew it was coming, but never heard it mentioned on City TV or anywhere yesterday ..... looks to be a tidy wee stadium that is going to be built ......

Pints before (and after) the inaugural game - sounds like a plan - wonder what will happen to the Lynx now ?

  13. Ok here's my 'prediction'

    ===========

    01. Rangers

    02. Celtic

    03. Hearts

    04. Kilmarnock

    05. Inverness CT

    06. Aberdeen

    ===========

    07. Hibs (without Mowbray)

    08. Motherwell (without Butcher)

    09. Falkirk

    10. Dunfermline

    11. St Mirren

    12. Dundee Utd (without Brewster)

    ===========

and if that DID happen, then I think I would have to hope DUNDEE were promoted so as to make it even more painful :016: :015: :016: (although I cant see it somehow)

  14. following on from what I said, I think it would be realistic to set a target of 6th, but I wont be too disappointed if we dont quite achieve it .... so long as we dont look like we will be relegated !

With Hibs/Mowbray speculation, Brewster/DUFC rebuilding, and Aberdeen under-performing then yes 4th is a distinct possibility ... but it should not be the target as that would be far too much pressure on the players ... Getting into the top 6 is achievable so thats what I think they should do ... IMHO :002: :010: :002:

  15. One of the things about ICT over the last 12 years is that with only 1 exception (I think), we have consistently performed better than the previous season. We are fortunate never to have 'enjoyed' the bitter taste of relegation and it really has been a case of onwards and upwards each year ....

From now on though, I feel our biggest fear should be relegation and the financial implications that brings. It is great but not realistic to fantasise that we will continue to improve each year and eventually win this division in the same way that we were challenging to win every other division we got into after playing in it for a year or two.

I would say that right now we are a comfortable 'mid-table' team and that is fairly re-assuring. If we flirt with positions from 4th to 10th, have decent cup runs, and maybe get into Europe on the odd occasion over the next few years, I will be delighted ... but we need to keep the relegation fear close at hand to avoid becoming complacent. We have no divine right to finish anywhere and have to earn it each year.

Cetic, Rangers, and (for the moment) Hearts have the resources to make sure they should always be at the top. Hibs, Aberdeen and Dundee United all have the potential to be near the top year in and year out given their resources and fanbase, but they have not always earned that in recent years. The other 6 teams should by rights be jockeying for position in the bottom 6 ... 7th was good this season, perhaps 6th next season or even higher ? after all, at least 2 of the 3 teams with 'potential' may have issues to deal with in the close season ......

  16. this season we must do something to get all people willing to sing in the same area.
Dont be surprised if the club give that idea very little consideration .... The club set aside an area last season and some supporters tried to promote the idea but the uptake was virtually nil ...
