  1. The Douglas

Aye the Douglas was good craic , never the same though when it changed to Shevalls ( I think that was the name ?) & then it became Dillingers

I also went to The Ice Rink , The Tryst,Columba , Caley , hayloft ,

What was the place in Ingles street called again ?

That would be the Carlton, I used to work there and at the Hayloft.

Aye thats the one & then along the Indian afterwards ( Shish Mahal i think it was called)

Talking of Indians does Mr Ali still have a place in Eastgate ?

    Friday night

    The Jacobite

    The Volunteer

    The Cavern (Alexandria Hotel)

    Nevis Bank

    Milton Hotel Ballroom

:thumb04: Were all these places in Inverness ? i dont recognise any of them :rotflmao:

  2. Anyway back to the thread, can anyone tell me when the buildings in Eastgate were knocked down, ie the building where Marks is now, i can sort of remember the shops on that side, but the big car park seems to stick in me memory banks more.

I've got a feeling that "old" Eastgate began to disappear about 1979-80 to make way for Eastgate Mark 1 (which opened about 1982) and around the same time Falcon Square also went and was used as a car park before the new Falcon Square/ Eastgate 2 appeared more recently. Further out the road Hamilton's Marts (and the Lochgorm of beloved memory of pints of lager for 2/4d!) also went to make way for Safeways (of beloved memory before it got converted to Morrisons where the cafe isn't nearly as good!) which I think opened in 1999.

I don't have all the dates but the 20 years between about 1979 and 1999 saw that whoile Eastgate/ inner Millburn Road area blitzed and transformed.

Your dates seem right, I moved to Elgin end of '77 and came back a couple years later to see changes, back a couple years later and even more. It seemed to progressively lose it's character over the years :rotflmao:

I agree Inverness town centre's been spoilt , i have vague memories of Eastgate when i was little , i liked the variety of shops , i seem to remember an Ironmongers or outdoor shop & the Sheiling across the road & the washington soda fountain & another thing you'll not see nowadays is prams outside shops , sadly a sign of the times

  6. .

I agree with the comments about Cowie. He seems to have lost intrest everytime he plays. I don't see 100% effort from him anymore.

Aye but how many times is he up through the night with the new baby ?

  7. who'd be the noisiest then eh

    Definately not us anyway :rotflmao:

RiG's right, in terms of sheer noise, Celtic, with Rangers flooliwing close second (although when either side is loosing you can hear a pin drop.)

In terms of noise per fan (if there is such a thing) Falkirk can be pretty noisy, as could Dunfermline before they were relgated.

I seem to remember ICT fans were the loudest last December when we beat Celtic after being 2 nil down !!

    EASY EASY EASY :thumb04:

    Fantastic atmosphere that day

  8. Celtic when they are winning.

We've not had a home win yet but i'd take a draw with Killie & then a run of home wins starting with CELTIC

    Wouldnt that be sweet :rotflmao:

who'd be the noisiest then eh

  9. In fairness theres not really been alot to shout about at home this season. I know the fans should be expected to sing even though but poor performances would put a few heads down.

I agree & i also suspect the quiet atmosphere is because most of us are cr@pping it & fearing the worst :rotflmao:

  10. People should be drinking whisky and beer before a game - and lots of it. I am on the side of the yoof and suggest the blame lies with the middle aged goody two shoe teetotallers.

Aye a few drams before the game makes a difference :thumb04:

What ever happened to the idea of the new leisure centre with bar at the stadium ? :rotflmao: :018:

  11. Utterly dissapointed today , the first half we were the better team & i was quietly confident we'd get 3 points

But how wrong was i !!! :rotflmao:

I couldnt understand why Rooney was taken off either :018: ,

och well only thing thats made me feel good today is Dons getting beat at home by Hamilton :thumb04:
