There are very real concerns about the state of the pitch.

  2. Unless anything has changed, a decision is only made based on the condition of the pitch at the time of the inspection.

i.e. Pitch not playable now and, even with optimal conditions, not likely to be playable at the scheduled time for the game.

That's why you will sometimes see an early inspection where they'll say "game on, but further inspection nearer to kick-off".  Even if the rain was bouncing off the ground and forecast to continue, if the pitch was playable at that moment...even marginally...they won't make a decision to postpone.

  3. As of the last statement/comment from the club on the matter...we've still not managed to raise the £500k that they said was needed to get us through the season.  As such, any money that may come in from player sales will be needed to plug whatever remains of that hole before ANY thought can be given to using it for signing other players.  The best we (and Robbo) can hope for is that the board at least allow him to reuse any wages already allocated in the budget and desperation doesn't force tightening of the belt there as well.

Storey off at half time and Brad McKay on. Rooney supposedly right wing. Trafford off and Carson on 10 minutes into 2nd half.

Well I would bet mucho spondoolicks that the 194 ICT supporters who witnessed this performance would rank that first half performance as the most fluent and effective that we have played in a long time. I would class it as entertainment personified and the singing must also class as the loudest and most prolonged in years as well - even though a few idiotic barstewards tried to ruin it. Storey coming off at half time definitely affected the rhythm and Rooney was nowhere near as effective in midfield - although he had done enuff in the first 45 to win the MOM by a country mile.

We started off as a 4-2-1-3 but were forced into a 4-4-2 in the second half. I reckon we would have trounced them if it had stayed the same. We totally controlled the first 15 minutes and then we were treated to the goal of the season which will be very difficult match. McHattie fired a pinpoint 60 yard cross field ball which found Rooney in miles of space. He then moves forward and we expect a looping cross. Well he cut it back along the 18 yard line at pace and DORAN smashed it into the corner. And only seven minutes later Rooney is at it again and at the end of a speedy counter attack KEATINGS cooly chipped it home. And we all thought that Storey had smashed in a second but unfortunately it was the side netting that bulged. And as we drew breath we wondered if the second half would be more of the same.

Alas Storey going off, presumably injured, we probably lost our system. Brad McKay coming on at right full back and Rooney moving into right midfield. Harsh maybe but I feel that we should have taken on McGregor. But don't get me wrong - we continued to boss the game. We never really looked like grabbing the third but Dundee never looked like scoring either. We did play a low lying back four but they won nearly everything and our workmanship and pressing was excellent. The only negative is that we may have lost three more squad players but let's hope that none of the injuries are serious and that Welsh and Walsh will return soon.

Do it is a very happy IHE who sips his post match voddie and let's hope that 2002 brings more of the same.

Ridgers ???? He is becoming a major bonus. Another deserved clean sheet and three tremendous saves.

Rooney  ????? Simply superb in the first half. Not as effective in the second half when moved forward but covered every blade of grass

McHattie ???? Was unsure to begin with but he and Coll looked like a real partnership. And that pass to start the first goal move was "World Class".

Donaldson ???? Looked more like the Coll of yore. Won EVERYTHING.

Tremarco ??? Solid if not spectacular but Dundee did play mainly down our right flank.

Vincent ???? I thought that he was superb and you could see him continually supporting and egging on all around him.

Trafford ??? Grafted but defended more than gave anything going forward.

Keatings ??? Very well taken goal. I felt that he too suffered from the enforced half time goal. Desperately needs a striker who knows how to be a foil to a number 10.

Storey ??? Has so much potential but frustrates me that he does not take people on more often. Still a striker to me and not a winger.

Todorov ?? Sorry but had a big chance to make his mark but did little to impress. Simply not a holding target man.

Doran ??? What a finish as only Aaron could do. He is the one person who you think could do something impromptu but lacks pace these days BUT still worth a starting place

McKay was a bit of a bomb scare at times, Carson is tireless and White looked good and hopefully continues to look over his shoulder at Toddy.

Robbo got it spot on today but I still think that he should have taken on McGregor at halftime but WTF.

And even Robbo the Ref gave us far more than he usually does ?

    ???

    Mckay....small 'k' ?‍♂️

  5. The Harper loan is only (currently) until the end of the month as cover for an injury at Elgin.  Don't know enough about their squad to ascertain if he'll be covering on the bench or getting 'guaranteed' game time.

Lot's of Ifs and Buts, however the scenarios could play out as follows....

    • If he' gets a game for Elgin and is not needed beyond the end of the month then he returns to us and can't go out to anyone else (limit to playing for 2 clubs in one season)...he may or may not get much game time, but is at least cover for us.
    • If he doesn't get a game for Elgin he could still go out to another club at the end of the month if the main aim is to get him matches/experience.
    • If the player he's covering for doesn't get fit before the end of the month and he stays longer...said player could come back a couple of weeks later and he's sidelined there instead of back providing cover for us.
    • He goes to Elgin, gets games during the month, impresses and comes back to be rewarded with more chances here.

For the player, there's no real down side as it provides a bit of opportunity.  Worst case scenario is he's back with us at the end of the month and/or sitting at Elgin in the same position he is now.

  6. I've always tried to keep the mindset that if a player is giving it their all, then there's not much more can be asked of them.  If they're not good enough, then getting on their back isn't going to make them any better...but if they're not trying hard enough, then it might just force them to get the finger out.  In saying that, I don't think it is ever a coincidence when almost an entire squad looks like it's not trying hard enough and that needs looking at because it's happening too often.  I'd wager that it's more to do with a lack of belief on what's being asked of them.

Miles Storey can't be faulted for effort and should actually get a bit more credit for keeping the chin up despite not getting the opportunity to play in his strongest position.  As has been touched on already, he's being forced to play on the wing because we don't have any other options...that must be hugely frustrating for him, and probably the team as well if they also think he would be better utilised up front.

  7. The run of Games from January to May 2010 was pretty special.  The media had already crowned Dundee as league champions...but a 21 game unbeaten (league) run that started in December put pay to that.  What's even more incredible than turning over a 15 point deficit to finish 12 points ahead (27 point swing) is that we finished that season with the fixture backlog from hell (7 games in 24 days during March) and the players never let up, even after we'd secured promotion.

IMO, that was the season that kick started the 5 year run that culminated in the Scottish Cup victory and our wee European adventure.

Maybe the fact that White has been our 3rd top striker at the club in the last decade has something to do with that reason you are looking for.

Only 2 to beat him is Billy McKay and Adam Rooney.

Maybe just maybe thats why the manager wanted to keep him at the club despite offers for him in the summer.

I feel that he is criticised far too much on this forum as imo he is a far better player than many of the posters on here give him credit for.

However thats down to opinions which every one has a right to hold.

Whats not in doubt is that on the the goalscoring stakes he is 3rd in the last decade at the club.

    Top goalscorers during last decade

Current season White / Doran 6 goals

    18/19 White 16 goals

    17/18 Oakley 12 goals

    16/17 Fisher 7 goals

    15/16  Storey 13 goals

    14/15 McKay 10 goals

    13/14 McKay 22 goals

    12/13 McKay 26 goals

    11/12 Tade 9 goals

    10/11 Rooney 21 goals

So he is not a Rooney or a McKay obviously but for the money we can pay atm then White is a more than decent striker to have in the market we operate at this time.

A very merry Christmas to you all ?

Do you mean Mckay (small 'k')?

  9. As the current decade heads towards it's end, what are your best bits from the last 10 years?  Not necessarily the big games or the big wins, but the most memorable (good) moments on and off the park.

I'll let this thread run through till the end of the year and I'll then run a poll to allow people to vote and we'll compile a Top "however many" type list.

    Go.....

  10. I enjoyed the game yesterday.  We never really looked troubled and even the two Nisbet chances didn't have me covering my eyes expecting the worst.  Felt we had another gear to shift up to if needed and that the squad were playing well within themselves.

Don't think anyone had a bad game.  Sure, it would have been nice to see more from some; but I don't think anyone could be accused of not trying and if a player isn't good enough, then that falls to the manager to either replace them and/or find a system that plays better to the squads strengths.

I came close to overriding the man of the match choice and announcing it as Ridgers ?‍♂️

    Merry Xmas.
