  1. Huge fight lined-up for Cornish on the 12th September. He's fighting Anthony Joshua at the O2 arena in London.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/33559163

The BBC link states the 21st September, but I'm sure they've transposed the numbers, as that's a Monday. (12th is a Saturday). 'BoxRec' website has it as 12th.

Anyway, the contest is for the Commonwealth Heavyweight title - a belt no Scotsman has ever held in its 123 year history!
But Joshua has had an explosive professional career after leaving the amateur ranks on a high with a London Olympics gold medal. And he's won all his fights by knockout.
Cornish has also won all his Pro fights, so shouldn't be outclassed.
    Go Gary!

  3. It wouldn't surprise me if they went with Richard Brittain especially with the work that he put for the trialist week last month. He would be a good appointment for them IMO.

    Great call!!
Yes, Brora's official Twitter has confirmed that Richard Brittain has been appointed as manager! (player-manager)

  4. Downinthedumps noted on the Astra match thread that UEFA have allocated the 'groupings' for today's Qualifying Round 3 (Q3) draw...
Could all be academic if we don't overturn the first-leg deficit, but nevertheless, will be exciting to see who we could be facing!

There are 6 teams we can face:

West Ham United (England) or Birkirkara (Malta)
    Atromitos (Greece)
    Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
    Slovan Liberec (Czech Republic)
    Standard Liege (Belgium)
Appollon Limassol (Cyprus) or Trakai (Lithuania)

  5. I take it Norburn isn't signing up either then.  I thought he looked a player actually.

I recollect Yogi saying in an interview that he wanted a keeper, another defender, another midfielder and two strikers.  This was after Wedderburn signed.  So far then we a keeper (Fon Williams), a midfielder (Jordan Roberts) and one striker (Dani Lopez).  Presumably then, he's still looking to bring in another defender (probably a full back) and another striker.  I think Lopez has potential, but last night he was crying out for a Mckay/Dargo-esque finisher alongside him IMO.

Yeah, I'd agree with that - the squad's starting to take shape in terms of quality and numbers...
An attacker and a left-sided defender would be ideal, although the latter 'don't grow on trees'! Richie Foran is almost like a new signing too, after his lengthy absence. And I can see young Jason Brown featuring on the bench a lot this season and perhaps getting his first-team debut at some stage, perhaps in the League Cup.

  6. Only question if we add more players before the next week will they be eligible?

No. The deadline was last Friday - although clubs are allowed to add one new player not registered by that cut-off. We've obviously added the new 'keeper, so that's it for this round!

Just remembered. the draw for Europa Q3 is tomorrow! Wonder who we'll 'potentially' get....

  7. I apologise! So he is!
Not for the first time, I got my Doran's and Foran's mixed up - I suppose I should also say a reluctant sorry for slurring the BBC!

ICTPAISLEY, been checking the crowd for our first home game at the stadium (v Dunfermline) and it's listed as 5,449. I agree, it felt like there were more there!

On Sunday, with the niggling injuries in the camp, I posted a 'worst case scenario' team:

    Esson

    Raven, Warren, Devine, Wedderburn

    Draper, Tansey, Polworth

    Vincent, Roberts

    Christie

Subs: Mackay, Sutherland, J Brown, Ferguson + 3 others!!

I doubt Foran's been 'sneaked' onto the list - I reckon I just had a 'blind spot' and failed to see his name!
Anyway, hopefully, some of those injuries have cleared up for tonight.

  8. It's good to read that Richie Foran has declared himself fit again http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33545884

Would be delighted to see him make the bench tonight.

Foran's not been registered to play in the Astra games. Yeah, the BBC article suggests he's available, but it's just ill-researched presumptiveness!
From what I can see, he hasn't been included.

  9. Plenty of column inches on Spain's top 2 'keepers, with Casillas moving to Real Madrid and hid deputy in the national team, De Gea speculated to be leaving Man Utd to go to replace him at Madrid. Spain are ranked 12th in the World Rankings.
Wales are higher, ranked 10th - and their no. 2 'keeper could be coming to us! Surely bigger news! (if the FIFA rankings are correct....)

  10. Without wanting to go through the 'nationalities at TCS' thread, I notice they've a Zambian up front. Is that a first?

They also have 4 Portuguese players, 3 from Brazil, and one from Japan!

Yeah, I'd noticed that and was particularly interested as Zambia is one of the countries yet to feature on the list! But the player in question doesn't seem to be a first team regular and wasn't even on the bench for Astra's league game at the weekend.
But, the other countries have been 'done' with Morais, Camazzola and Nakamura!

  11. I know a poster offered a link to the game the other day - but I couldn't get it to 'save'. But, I'd rather have a 'physical' copy of it rather than a download anyway.

Plus, it should make some money for the club. Say it was £9.99, then 5,000 sales would be a nice return.
But I'm probably being naive and overlooking 'overheads', costs and such - CaleyD?!

  12. Davie Kirkwood has stood down as manager at Brora.
I'd imagine that Stuart Golabek will take charge for now, but names already 'linked' for either manager/assistant are Barry Wilson, Ross Tokely and Grant Munro.

  13. Signed until the end of next season (2016-17):

    • Gary Warren

    • Richie Foran

    • Greg Tansey

    • Josh Meekings

  14. Gregory Tade has signed for Steaua Bucharest

He obviously still reads this forum and has realised he wants to meet-up with the ICT supporters in the bars of the Romanian capital!
    But seriously, t
hat's a great move for him! Maybe unfairly labelled as 'a headless-chicken' by some, his style obviously 'works' in Romanian football - after all, he was top scorer over there last season!

    • Agree 1
  15. A good effort indeed! He's making his debut in the British Open this week and is obviously in good form, and he's back up to no.73 in the World Rankings - equalling his career high.

  16. Anyone know if the home match is going to be shown on any sort of TV anywhere? (i.e. will it be available for a stream online?)

I think there was a similar question recently, and the answer then was that there were no plans for either leg to be televised.

  17. He'll be our fifth Spanish player IIRC. They've all been pretty good. Spain is the Marks and Spencer of international football - quality guaranteed.

It would make a good 5-a-side team!

Toni Reguero in goals - with big Roman Golobart sweeping up at the back...
Juanjo to start the attacking moves - with Dani Sanchez creating the chances for Lopez to net!
We need a Spanish flag at TCS!

  18. I think we're all in agreement that they're certainly a decent side, but not 'world-beaters'. But, we have to be very wary and balance that with not giving them too much respect.
Any win would be a great result to take to Romania. And a home first-leg 0-0 draw is certainly not a bad result. I'd still give us a chance at a goal behind, but two...maybe not!

  19. Agree. I notice the bookies odds are strongly favouring Astra!
Can't find odds for overall progression from the tie, but for the first-leg in Inverness, Astra are Evens to win; we're 11/4.
I notice Aberdeen are priced at 8/1 to win away against Rijeka in their first-leg. A cheeky £5 on a 'north' double on Thursday would see winnings of nearly £170 !

As for the game, I understand Yogi's frustration at the injury 'crisis' so early in the season, when our squad was already fairly thin. The Courier reports that there are doubts over Williams, Doran, Horner, Tremarco and Meekings.
Also, if as assumed Lopez has signed, he should be eligible, but the 'paperwork' in Roberts transfer took a while, so I wouldn't be surprised if he were to miss out, also.

Worst case scenario would see us effectively picking:

    Esson

    Raven, Warren, Devine, Wedderburn

    Draper, Tansey, Polworth

    Vincent, Roberts

    Christie

Subs: Mackay, Sutherland, J Brown, Ferguson + 3 others!!
