  1. I get your point, but that's just because they're so hopeless at getting to major finals! ;) Funnily enough, I heard a German guy talking about the England team on the radio a few weeks ago. He reckoned that the reason that the English media go on about '66 so much, is because they've only done it once. The Germans have gotten into 13 major finals (both united and under West Germany) in their time, so they no longer talk about it. They've done it so often that they don't need to hype them up, getting to a major final isn't such a big deal any more. The reason England go on about their World Cup win, is cause they've only done it once. Had they won it, say five or six times, it would no longer have the fascination and hype that it has.

Fair enough point BUT the one flaw I can see in that theory is that the English media already think we have a God given right to be there. So imagine what they would be like if we won 5 or 6 times.

  2. No, I know they have progressed by the skin of their teeth but better that than go out playing well.

If they were to win the cup playing badly I would be happy. The record books don't say they didn't win but they played well, they don't say they won but played crap, they merely say they won.

Winning playing crap is better than losing playing well.

If you are looking for a physical name in a book then you are correct, but just because a team won does not necessarily mean that they will be remembered. For example, the Dutch World Cup side of 1974 are remembered more than the West Germany side that won the competition that year. Arrigo Sacchi's AC Milan are remembered far more than Fabio Capello's AC Milan, even though Capello's Milan won more than Sacchi's did. Jut because a team, does not mean that they won't fade into obscurity as time goes on.

Renegade, If England win, can you really see the English media letting it fade into obscurity?

    I think not.

  3. Aye.....but at least we're there.

Are you not in the slightest embarassed? I'd be gutted.

No, I know they have progressed by the skin of their teeth but better that than go out playing well.

  4. The reality is that England are through... but 2 crap performances and a poor show against a shyte - really shyte Slovenia will not have the opposition shaking in their boots.

Engerlund will get feckin scalped but a half decent team.

    Aye.....but at least we're there.

  5. The PC world we live in has a lot to answer for.

You don't hear of the good things they do.....................tell me about them, tydying up after they have visited is normal is it not. It's good that they do it but it's not a reason to celebrate. I could have put it another way, when there are no caravans, things don't disappear.

If we went back to traditions, we would still be raping and pilaging and eating each other, is that above board?

If this is in relation to my post I think you should read it again. I never actually said "you don't hear about the good things they do". I said that you don't hear about the ones that come and go without causing trouble, Big difference.

  6. I hope you enjoy supporting your national team in South Africa as much as I enjoy supporting their opponents.

I will and I hope you get to support their opponents all the way to the final. :D

    It's on the 23rd June? Right? :D

It may be for you my friend but I intend to be watching a bit longer.

  7. It's like anything though, you only hear about the bad things they do. Therefore you have a negative outlook in regards to them. You don't hear about the group that set up, enjoyed themselves, tidied up and left because there is no reason to but the group that turn up, cause chaos, leave the place a mess and disappear with most of your garage contents. Now that's different. So this is why we stereotype. It's wrong but quite normal.

  8. I wanted England to do well for my own personal glory and pride, but now you have given me another reason to want us to do well at the World Cup. Scotland fans claim to be some of the most patriotic in the world, supporting your country and team to the very end. It's a shame you can't let England fans do the same.

    COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!

    Who's stopping them?

I want our biggest rivals to get pumped nothing to do with stopping them support england. They can support them all they want, I'll be supporting whoever they play. ABE

Oooh is that a bandwagon? I think I'll jump on it!!!!

  9. I personally think it's like any other group of people in that a small minority give the others a bad name and unfortunately they all get tarred with the same brush. I say good luck to them. I wish I could get away with not paying council tax. :023:

  10. UUrrrrgh, yeah ok, what ever you say

So you support ICT for a laugh then?

Oh I see where you're going. I was actually commenting on the link, above me.

As for ICT, I support ICT as they are my local team. I have supported them since I bought my humble abode in Inverness 14 years ago. When I was mocking Scottish football I was talking about the national team. Unlike the national team, ICT actually win things. :D

Sorry to play devil's advocate here, Oz, but on that basis is the Scotland National team not your local national side now that you've moved here? Should you not support Scotland now?

Why? I'm not Scottish, I have never claimed to be. I merely live here. If you moved to America would you support them and give up your allegience to Scotland? If I lived my life according to your logic I would have had to change my "team" a hell of a lot as I have lived in several countries during my time in the Army. As it happens I have a strong leaning towards Scotland and most things Scottish.

  11. Quick question here Oz

IF an ICT player made it through to the Scotish first team, would you continue to mock them ?

(Personally, i have no problem with the English players its the media that drives me crazy)

To answer honestly......I don't know..........Actually I do know. Yes I would if he played *****. Note: I would mock him not abuse him. Big difference. I came to this conclusion thinking about if I would do it to a Liverpool/England player and yes I would. If they feck up they deserve a bit of ribbing, as long as it stays banter and doesn't cross the line I see no problem with it.

  13. And if that is a true reflection of the typical Scottish man you have a serious problem. Well educated looking bunch aren't they?

Why dont you just go back to england if you have such a problem with the Scots ?

Oh FFS, yes you can have your ball back. I have never said I have a problem with Scots or Scotland. As a matter of fact I have only ever said nice things unless I am being engaged in banter with some of the more mature posters. I am married to scots lass and am very happy living amongst scottish people. Unfortunately there is this small minority who have a rather large chip on their shoulder. Oh and by the way, the only tears I shed when thinking about scottish football are tears of laughter. :D

  14. Oh I see, I'm supposed to take it but not give it. It's called banter, I'm sure Iamthecaptain1 wasn't offended by my comeback just as I wasn't offended by his opening remark. As for your question about England last winning anything. I think it was 1966 but I'm not sure. When was the last time Scotland won anything? Let me guess 1967 when Scotland beat England. That's about the sum of it, isn't it? If people like me make you hope England go out early, you really should get out more. That way you may be able to get a life. If you really can't handle the banter then I suggest you hibernate for the next few weeks because I can see it getting a lot worse.

You ethnic minorities want everything your own way don't you. It's bad enough you elect our government.

MMmmm, looking at the young lady makes me want to get a new tshirt.

  15. England on their way to losing yet another penatly shoot out - Woody Harrleson - LEGEND!

Scotland on their way to winning..............Oh, nothing, as usual. Oh and by the way it's a penalty not a penatly. :P

When was the last time england won anything ? Its because of people like you that I hope england dont get past the group stages .
