  1. I fully understand that Scottish Football is looked upon as a poorer league where the financial state of the game is predominently at the forefront, but thats really only the fault of the individual teams themselves. Isn't it?

Like I mentioned originally, we've lost players in the last decade that were worth way more than what we got for them. If Wigan sent a scout up to Somerset Park, they'd be bidding 500k to 1m for our irish trio without doubt, but why are we selling ourselves short by taking the first offer on the table.

In the paper today, DoF Grassa said it'd take obscene money to make us part with our assets. Define obscene...

highland league obscene - i.e. 5-figure maximum or Top Flight Obscene i.e mid-6-figure sum

Exactly. ?3m is obscene. ?90,000 - ?300,000 is worse than peanuts. If Rooney has another 20+ goals season next season he should be worth at least ?1m to a top end Championship/lower end Prem team. Likewise Hayes and Foran if they carry on this season's form and better it next season.

  2. Ok here is a more serious one - no two - no three !!

Pre season game against Ipswich town - followed by a year long loan deal on Tom Eastman plus one other - and yet another feckin Dubliner - David van Zanten.

Doesn't his brother play for County?

    Transit Van Zanten

His sister plays for the County women's team. Cara Van Zanten.

  3. Dont think England are good enough this time but I suppose they could win.

As for County well Im not sure how I feel. They definately could win and there is a part of me that says good on them and that I should support the highland team. On the other hand I dont want them in europe ahead of us and it could be that a lot the neutral support would switch to them if they win so would be bad for ict income. oh well what will be will be and as already stated if county win it will not be mentioned every day for ever and ever.

Don't think that would happen to be honest. Yes, County would be in the Europa League, but how far does anyone think they'll get, really? Our prospects are much better in the SPL than County's are in European competition against the likes of Liverpool, Aston Villa, Fulham, Man City, Atletico Madrid, Shaktar Donetsk et al. Anyone who would even consider switching alliegance from Caley to County on this basis is mental and needs serious psychiatric help and a nice long stay in a padded cell.

  4. Just a bit of fun SCF I think , I enjoy the rivalry as long as it never gets nasty , and I suppose you want Portsmouth to win the FA Cup ? :030: ... not too many of us Derby fans hoping Forest win promotion i can tell you

Mind you , bit of a worry if it were a Germany-England final and all the Scots prayed for the krauts to win :thumb04:

Haha! Honestly, I wish them well. Pompey deserve a bit of fortune after this season of turmoil. Having said that however, as a Saints fan and a realistic sort of chap, I think it will be one of the most one-sided FA Cup finals in history.

As for Forest, I really want Blackpool to go up. Everyone loves an underdog story and they deserve it more than Forest IMO. Will be watching it tonight on Sky Sports cheering on the Seasiders! :021:

  5. You've spelt England wrong twice in your poll.

And yes, you will be hearing about it over and over and over and over again if it happens. From me.

Personally I do not think we will win it. Of course we won't. But why can't we be proud of our country without Scotland hating us for being proud? Scots are supposedly one of, if not the most patriotic nations in the world. Yet when we talk up our chances it's not patriotism, it's arrogance.

Being half English, half Scottish, I follow the fortunes of both nations with passion. I and most other people I know would certainly support Scotland if they played in a major competition and England didn't. Shame the sentiment isn't shared.

    Rant over.

  6. Absolutely. If we aren't in contention at Christmas we should sack Butcher and look at getting Warnock in.

hopefully this is a bit of tongue n cheek?

    :dancing02: :drinking01:

Edit - This is my 100th post!

  7. Now that scummy Falkirk got a taste of their own medicine today who would you like our first game of next season to be against?

Personally I would love to see us start at home against Aberdeen. My thinking is that McGhee will rip the team apart and bring in a whole new squad meaning they won't have had time to gel together yet we have kept the nuclius of our squad and the understanding is there.

Out of all the SPL teams Aberdeen are the team I most want us to p*mp next season and seeing McGhee get pelters on the opening day would make me chuckle  ......................

    would echo that

would love to have the news that we have beaten them 2-0 again too

I was bowling when that scoreline came through. We were in one of the end lanes next to the bar and the enormous tv screen with Soccer Saturday on it. As I bowled I heard Jeff Stelling announce that "Inverness have beaten Aberdeen for the first time in their history!" and the initial elation from bowling a strike was then propelled through the roof by this news and half the people in the building looked in our direction!

  8. Esson

Alexander (capt) Eastham Munro Van Zanten

    Cox Duncan

    Hayes Foran

    Thomas Kind Bendiksen

    Rooney

Interesting line up there, chances of any of those in bold font coming?

Butcher is at Turf Moor tomorrow but I reckon Bendiksen would be my main bet, followed by Van Zanten.

Excellent. We'll have Alexander, Fletcher and Eagles please. Gotta have a few squad players to fill the bench.

  9. Remember we had sharp some years ago? If we could get a bigger brand to sponsor and have more money coming in that would be great. Wonder if the board have any connections? IMHO and very tongue in cheek, highland spring would be pretty cool. Spring, bounceback, etc.

Let's be sponsored by Iain Dowie then. It was him, after all, who coined the word 'Bouncebackability'.

  10. i dont have anything against the english fans themselves, apart from that lot with the brass band maybe, that play the great escape tune all the time :D .

like someone said its the media that wind me up but i do get a lot of pleasure from watching linekar and ian wright just after they've been stuffed by spain or whoever and i'm sure there's plenty england fans having a chuckle at our lot after we take a doing from, well, the list is long.

i will be supporting anyone but england and make no apologies for that.As neighbours it would be pretty dull if we all supported each other imo. It makes it all the better to have friends and family with a different allegiance to wind up and i cant understand why people would take offence to it, its only a game of football at the end of the day.

    c'mon the yanks :D

    c'mon slovenia :D

    c'mon the algerians :025:

Actually, I consider Scotland to be my second international team. I am half English, half Scottish, so I support Scotland as passionately as I support England. I hate the animosity between our two nations. It's petty and pathetic. We don't have to support each other, but do we have to hate each other? I don't particularly like Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Celtic and Rangers. But when any of them are playing in Europe, I will always want them to win, being British. Unless they're playing each other, then I pick the one I hate the least.

  11. As DerbyDave mentions, it's the media that go over the top with all the "England will win just like 1966" crap. We English fans just support the team not the hype. Surely you Scots can understand and appreciate that? You are supposed to be the most patriotic fans about, so surely you see that all the fans are doing are supporting their team. We know the hype is OTT but that's not us, just the idiots on TV. We also realise that England will probably choke round about the semi final stage (if we get that far), but while they are still in the comp we will support them. You would do the same for Scotland wouldn't you, given the chance? I find it pitiful that SOME of you slag the English but have English blood in your families or are married to an English partner. We all do what is right support our country but can we not learn to resist the urge to be bitter about other's?

    Cue the verbal onslaught.

    :025: Come on England!

  12. Now that Allison is gone, doesn't that leave us with just Ryan Esson in the goalkeeping department?

As things currently stand we have no goalkeepers.

Hopefully Esson will sign, along with someone who will have a chance of competing for his place.

Oh yea  Haha forgot Esson hasn't actually re-signed yet. How about a loan move for that young Man City goalkeeper? Looked good in the 17 minutes he got last week. :023:
