  1. TFC edge out the Revs Scotty's ViewFromTheSouthStands at Toronto FC After a good road win in Philadelphia in week 1 and no game in week two it was back to business this week with the home opener against New England Revolution. The Revs have stuttered out of the gate this season drawing 1-1 in Dallas on week 1 and then losing to Columbus last week in their own home opener but its early days. This fixture has gone the way of the home team for the last six games and you have to go back to 2015 to find an away win so hopes were high. The rumoured return of Jozy Altidore to the squad and the imminent arrival of Alejandro Pozuelo also helped buoy the mood and clear the gloom that was the Concacaf Champions League exit at the first hurdle. 2. I've been reading some interesting stories about some flags that Toronto fans take to games....
  3. A big game in Inverness this weekend, but its derby day in MLS too ... or what they are calling "rivalry week". Portland head to Seattle for a MLS game that is also classified as a "Cascadia Cup" game. (The Cascadia cup is awarded - by supporters groups of the competing clubs - to the team in the Pacific North West which has the best record against the others that season. Portland/Seattle and Vancouver are the 3 teams that compete for it.) DC United will head up from Washington to play New York in their "Atlantic Cup" derby, New England will head across from Boston to play Philadelphia in the St Paddys Day battle between cities with a heavy Irish ancestry,, and Colorado make the trip to Salt Lake City for the Rocky Mountain derby ... not sure if there is some history behind the other two games on Saturday, but for some bizzaro reason, Columbus will play San Jose while Kansas entertain Chicago so not every game appears to be a derby. on Sunday, its back to derbies as Dallas play Houston whilst LA Galaxy will play against Chivas who share the same stadium as them. But the biggie (for me at least) is Montreal -V- Toronto on Saturday !!!! An early start for me and an estimated (sold out allocation of) 5300 travelling fans .... some are heading there tomorrow, others are already there, and many are making it a full weekend, taking in a UFC event as well as St Patrick's day which is apparently huge in Montreal !!! but in my case, its off to BMO field for 7am Saturday morning and the 6 hour bus journey to Montreal ... watch the game then back to Toronto ..... hopefully with a big smile First home game was last weekend and TFC played in the Rogers Centre (SkyDome) against Kansas. Kansas won the Eastern Division last year, a full 40 points ahead of TFC, but courtesy of a couple of Robbie Earnshaw goals, some nice play from John Bostock and solid defending from Darren O'Dea and Danny Califf, the Reds - and new coach Ryan Nelsen - got all 3 points ..... 3 more this weekend against Montreal would be sweet .....
  4. Former Toronto FC defender Nana Attakora (22) appears to be on trial at Hibs. The info came from a Toronto based journalist on Twitter who supposedly got it from his agent .... Would be a good signing for them in my opinion, and I think he would do well in the SPL. A little bio ... Trained with Everton in 2007 before signing for TFC in their first season in MLS. Made his debut in 2008 but only featured in 5 games (3 starts). Was ever-present in the TFC lineup in 2009 and 2010 and a great young prospect who formed a formidable central defensive partnership with Adrian Cann during the 2010 season .... Seemed destined to be a rock at the heart of the TFC defence for years to come but contract negotiations broke down, he got injured, the management changed, and he was eventually traded to San Jose Earthquakes in 2011 much to the chagrin of supporters. Has played for Canada at all age levels (U-16, U-17, U-19, U-20 and U-23) and made his full international debut whilst still a TFC player in 2010. TFC stats: 62 starts, 6 sub appearances, 4 goals, 6 yellows, 1 red. If Hibs dont sign him, he could well be worth a look ... and because MLS publishes player salaries, I know he was on a salary of only US$45,000 last year so about £550 a week !
