Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC have this afternoon reluctantly accepted the resignation of manager Craig Brewster and assistant manager Malky Thomson.
This follows their rejection this morning of a substantially improved contract offer by the club which they had reflected on overnight.
Dundee United today amended their position in relation to compensation for the remaining three years of Mr Brewster's contract. This led to a meeting in the Central Belt at lunchtime between ICT chairman David Sutherland, director of football Graeme Bennett and Dundee United chairman Eddie Thomson.
As a result of those discussions, the clubs have reached full agreement on compensation following a significantly enhanced offer from United.
Chairman David Sutherland said:"To his credit, Craig Brewster had assured Caley Thistle he would not leave without a compensation agreement. But he reiterated his wish, and that of his assistant, to join United and Caley Thistle could not, in the end, stand in his way.
"But we can assure our supporters we fought tooth and nail to try to keep him.
"We place on record our sincere apprecation of the outstanding contribution Mr Brewster and Mr Thomson have made over the past 14 months since their appointment. Caley Thistle gave Craig Brewster his opportunity and we have proved good for one another. He has shown integrity and understanding over the past few days and while we made every effort to retain his services, we understand the special allure of Tannadice to him."
Director of football Graeme Bennett said:"First team coaches Charlie Christie and John Docherty will be in charge against Livingston on Saturday and for the Scottish Cup replay at Ayr United on Monday. The board will urgently address the issue of identifying a new manager."
