  1. Being fairly new to this SPL lark, we are an easy target for such predictions. It'll be a while before we become one of the safer bets for SPL survival, like Hearts, Hibs, the Old Firm and (dare I say it) Aberdeen.

Saturday's match was disappointing. But I did see some flashes of our potential and certainly wouldn't condemn the team to relegation on the strength (weakness) of one poor showing!

  2. We really don't want to hang onto any player who's already decided he wants to move to another club.

Persuade him his future lies with ICT, otherwise sell him for as much as we can.

Then boo him whenever he plays against us!

However, I fully agree with DS's stance against United's murky methods.

  3. While house prices in and around Inverness have nearly doubled in the last few years, during the same period the cost of building materials and labour has only gone up in line with inflation.

At a guess I'd say we're talking about a period of the last 6 or 7 years.

So if you've got a plot of land at a decent price, and you build your own house, then as soon as the house is complete, it's value nearly doubles. Why aren't more people doing it then? Well I guess it's not so easy for everybody to get hold of the initial capital.

Be careful with the neighbours though - there's some strange people living in the hills around Loch Ness!

Sorry about this boring post, but Hamish did ask a question!

  4. What you do with junk mail is you put all the gumph in the supplied pre-addressed envelope and send it right back to them. That way the company is charged for postage. Allegedly.

If everyone did that there probably wouldn't be any junk mail.

Or if there was, there'd be no pre-addressed envelopes with it!

    :003:

  5. Hullo Sandy Cromarty - haven't seen you posting for ages. Have you been hibernating? Good to see you back anyway.

Ian McCall found his level with Clydebank in the 1st division. In fact their position in the league probably flattered him. He was given his shot at glory in the SPL about the same time as Pele, and although he did a wee bit better than our reject, both failed spectacularly.

He'll probably do OK as a mid-table 1st Division manager - I understand County are keeping tabs on him!

  6. Quite often one of the Old Firm makes a shaky start to the season.

I put it down to the number of foreign players they sign during the close season and the consequent lack of cohesion in the team until the players get to know one another, after which their obvious quality shows.

This season I would expect Rangers, rather than Celtic to struggle initially due to the number of signings they've made and their new manager finding his feet. Unfortunately, I don't think we play them until well into the season by which time they'd be starting to pull in the same direction.

    Pure theory of course.

Very encouraging to read your observations about Celtic though. I think we meet them quite early in the season, so lets hope they're there for the taking!

  7. If a simple method of making one-off payments (e.g. paypal) could be adopted rather than long term commitments (e.g. standing orders), I think it would be a great idea.

Due to my unusual working routines and distance from Inverness, it isn't always possible for me to get to home matches. I would still like to donate the admission fee to the club though, but I don't think there's a facility for that.

I think there's probably a lot of folk out there who would use such a facility - people who, for whatever reason, don't go to a match but still want to put money into the club.

    Count me in!

  8. Compared to other footballing nations of similar population, England have an abysmal record. When did they last win anything - 1966 wasn't it? ****, that's 40 years ago!

If they're such a dead cert. to win the World Cup, how come the top English club teams have got so few English players in them? One can only conclude that English players aren't as good as foreigners. Which is really what the English media hype is all about - rabble-rousing the gullible populace against Johnny Foreigner, who really has no business trying to compete with Hearts of Oak . . . . .

No, I won't be supporting England, but good luck to them. They're sure as **** going to need it.

And I hope such bitter comments from us chip-on-the-shoulder jocks doesn't discourage forum members from south of the Border from contributing to this site - after all, we may differ in some things but we all support the same club team!

  9. ****, does nobody remember how obnoxious and arrogant we were in 1974 when we qualified and they didn't? They're only getting their own back!

Remember the immortal line from the official Scotland world cup song which went something like, "England cannae dae it 'cos they didnae qualify." To me, that beats anything they ever did for sheer in-yer-face gloating and arrogance.

Just get over it. They're not going to win it anyway, thank fork! :006:

  10. To dismiss Turkey as "an ******** of a country" and its entire population as "sleazy b@stards" is very racist indeed, and not very well advised! Ironic that you should refer to others as of "below average intelligence" and come out with a remark like that!

However, I can't find any truly racist comments about England in this thread.

Having lived and worked in England (and Turkey!!), and with English people abroad, I can honestly say I've got absolutely no problem with English people and England as a nation. Some of my best friends have been English.

However, I will not be supporting England in this World Cup campaign. Scotland is the small, put-upon, oppressed nation and we naturally don't want to see our larger neighbours succeed where we have failed. They are the auld enemy. I really, really DON'T want England to win the World Cup ever again.

  11. I remember a wonderful game called Sensible Soccer which was very popular on the Amiga but didn't make a good transition to the PC. I'd say the best game I ever played although obviously very dated by today's standards.

HOWEVER, I've just heard that a brand new all singing all dancing PC version of Sensi (as we called it back then) is being released next month and is tipped to quickly become the TOP footie game of all time. I'll believe that when I see it, but certainly good news for those of a nostalgic disposition.

  12. OK, so we've got "Hi - Ho Caley Thistle everywhere that we go."

    Let's see now. . . . . .

So how about "Dum-di dum-di dum-di WHISTLE, something something BLOW," or SHOW, or maybe FLOW.

Pistol - that rhymes with thistle, sort of. Well, maybe not. How about Bristle then?

There's lots of words that rhyme with "go".

    Does it need to rhyme?

  13. Yeah, I see what you mean. It would depend who else was there of course.

Wouldn't want to go back to playing the likes of Ross County and Livingston for ferk's sake.

I think an OF-free league would benefit Scottish football in the long run, and would eventually force younger supporters to tend to follow their local team rather than some "big" team which was less accessible to them.

Get rid of the OF vermin by all means!
