Aye but surely most of them supported caley too ? Well that was part of my point - there were considerably more dissatisfied punters from the Caley side becos there was more of a bond with the club, a fear that it could die and that Caley had the capability of going it alone. The main people who fought the Jeggie corner were mainly committee members and individuals with a stake in the club. The Caley Rebels were mainly foot soldiers. And that is all the requisites that you require in order to post whatever you should wish on this forum and on any relevant subject matter. Don't let the ******** make you do anything otherwise. No offence taken as after all I am Immortal.

and now ICT are a fine, family orientated, straight laced, inoffensive football club that has become a feckin institution in just 18 seasons ..... Well done Scotty - that is the finest, concise reposte I have witnessed in a long time. My initial intent was to show that the historical recordings of the merger have appeared to denigrate the followers of Caledonian FC. Many of the "Rebels" were basically loyal followers of a club steeped in its own tradition and history. A lot of people feel that the merger should be forgotten but it simply is a major part of the birth of Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Some people also tend to minimise the effect that it had on many supporters of both clubs and I would compare it with present day news that ICT and Ross County were looking at a merger. I wonder how many of the yoof and post merger devotees would react to that possibility.

My original statement was along the line of IF Caley had received the same financial backing as ICT did. The other point that I was trying to emphasise - and I strongly believe in - was that from a fan/attendance perspective Caley had the significantly stronger numbers and their entry in to the leagues would have attracted bigger clubs from the off and the yoof of Sneck would have been enticed in numbers to join an entourage which was envied already, had a reputation and home games would have been noisier from the off. That has been my beef from the start and to be frank I don't think that anybody apart from CB and a few blind fools from the hills have argued against. To be blunt Thistle were a fine family orientated, straight laced, inoffensive football club. Caledonian FC was a feckin institution.

But Buckett - I thought that you would have preferred some wise words regarding the potential of a go alone Caledonian FC.

Fair play, its a valid question! I am a follower of Scottish football from afar so I was aware of how well your season has gone, Terry Butcher being the boss an all. I remember the headlines (Super Caley go ballistic...) when you beat Celtic in the League Cup back in 2000. Infact that was probably the first time Id heard of ICT. Since the friendly was arranged Ive been reading up on ICT, had no idea the club was formed from a merger... I guess I probably know as much about ICT as the average ICT fan knows about Charlton. I live in London (20 mins away from the Valley) and I get plenty of Londoners who dont know where Charlton is! There is a good thread about the merger on here and worth a gander.

Half a league half a league, Half a league onward, All to the valley of Charlton Marched the six hundred: 'Forward, the TerryandMo Away! Charge for the pub' he said: Into the valley of Charlton Marched the six hundred. 'Forward, the TerryandMo Away!' Was there a man dismay'd ? Not tho' the footsoldier knew Some one had blunder'd: Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do & die, Into the valley of Charlton Marched the six hundred. Vodka to right of them, Whisky to left of them, Rum in front of them Volley'd & chunder'd; Pisshed with shots and smell, Boldly they marched and scooped Into the cocktails of Death Into the mouths of all Scooped the six hundred. Flash'd all their erses bare, Farted as they changed the air, Savouring the happy hour there, Charging a feckin bomb while All around chundered: Plunged in the cannabis smoke Right thro' the queue they broke; Smirnoff and Black Russians Reeled from the sunstroke, Shatter'd & scunner'd. Then they Marched back, but not Not the six hundred. Vodka to right of them, Whisky to left of them, Carnage behind them Trolley'd and chunder'd; Stoked with shots and smell, While hoarse & hero fell, They that had drank so well Came thro' the jaws of Death, Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred. When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wonder'd. Honour the charge they made! Honour the TerryandMo Away Noble six hundred.

What was the name of that cider again !! I thought that stopped after what happened last time? He made a full recovery I believe, but only seen him once since. His carer seems nice though. Do tell! does it involve alcohol or shagging? Of course it does but where can we hire a sheep for the day ?
