  1. No one should abuse any other poster ,  But to ban discussion  is to be not the right policy although I can why it is considered so

To put my serious head on, which I do infrequently because it reminds me of my former life, when I had to be ultra serious and  not to  make mistakes because it could have serious consequences,  Thirty years and one day I was a firefighter in Lancashire,  I went through the ranks  to a moderately high level when I had to be in charge of many men ( no women in those days ),   I have seen sights in fires and road accidents, I don't care to remember and in writing this I will not sleep tonight.  ( Because it is all coming back)  I have seen families distraught  in losing their loved ones , husbands , babies,  - Putting on a brave face when I had to interview them, to get the facts of  the case, usually for me to give evidence at the inquest into  the death .

So I get a little frustrated  or more than that when I see subscribers on this forum, who have never had to meet serious danger head on , decrying  service personal that have put their lives on the line in foreign places when told to do by their superiors officers. How can a person who has never  had more danger than sucking the lead in their pencils know what it is like to face an enemy  determined to kill you, or in my case burn me to  a cinder.  So when  the ICT club or anyone  else  wishes to  pay tribute to those of us that protect our life style , we should be there  with them one hundred percent.

These people may not show it but fear is the  is there every minute of the day  , not just fear for themselves but fear they may put their colleagues in danger.

On a personal note a close relation of mine went in on D day two hours before the main landings  as part of the South Wales borderers as a CSM with the Canadians ,  Many of whom their main language was French, You can imagine how they felt landing to free the country that was part of their heritage,. Those Canadians landed  with 5000 men and lost 5000 men in two days of fighting.  The 5000 were replaced as they moved down through Normandy. A little boy saw the troops and ran into his farmhouse " mummy French soldiers outside ",  "They are speaking French mummy".

No amount of gibes can diminish the efforts of these soldiers , of what ever nationality, and I include German soldiers in that they had little choice in many instances.,

There is a high price to maintain the peace  in the world.

Good night and sleep tight, you owe your nights rest to the  emergency services, and to the military, never forget it

Actually, I want to be entertained as well. The two seemed to go hand in hand almost every game in the days of Steve Paterson and quite often happened under Terry Butcher as well.

The two are not and should not be mutually exclusive and, for what it's worth, I've spent more than a few evenings at Eden Court over the years failing to be entertained and you can't even console yourself with a bloody pie at half time !

Kingsmills  you yourself are pure entertainment, you do make me laugh.

Is the bar not open in the interval at Eden court ?  Surely a gin and tonic is better than any pie, bloody or otherwise.

On the subject of pies, Caley should follow Delia Smith's  ( Norwich City ) , and have the pies flown in from Hollands pies  in Accrington.  Mind you can get them frozen from Tesco

Although the most moronic option of all would be to keep Strachan. Knowing the track record of the SFA, that's exactly what they are likely to do.

Somehow one feels as Hamlet did, it may be better to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or take arms against it - But does a noble mind exist at Scottish FA towers - I think not. ?

I do feel Strachan was  the sufferer of the most outrageous fortune especially the England game he nearly won.

I know, scoring a goal and creating the second just isn't good enough. No wonder the fans kept booing him, you'd think that would raise his confidence and make him score more.

My opinion and I have been involved with football for nearly 70 years , was he was not interested. He did score a goal which took a deflection or so it seemed from where I was sitting. The second goal again from my vantage point was at leas a yard offside.

  6. In Rugby terms the wheels are due to come off the chariot

The problem with the England team is they only have a couple of world class players, by world class I mean somebody who has the potential to play for Barcelona or  Real Madrid or PSG - That is Kane and Ali  possibly Walker -   Thinking of  Stirling  or  Henderson  they may get in the B side at Barcelona.

The centre backs are average Smalling and Jones ,   Stones is moderate  , The goalkeeper Hart is Terrible  and is not as good as our Wales man  Fon Williams.                                  Maybe Butland  is sound , but I prefer the ex Celtic man Forster .

I can't see for the life in me how they can compete with , ( the usual suspects )  Spain , or Germany,  from Europe, or Argentina. from South America -

No  unless it snows in Russia it will be a very poor campaign for Perfidious Albion.  When I think back to the team, that won it, Gordon Banks, the two Charlton's, Bobby Moore , Peters, Hurst , Hunt , Ball,    I could go on.

This  England side is terrible and hasn't a cat in hells chance. I rather think Southgate will be following  Strachan  to the Dole queue

Having said all that they may totally confound me and lose to Germany on penalties in the Semis.

The club has to nurture Polworth  because he has spirit. If he is trying his best and some things are not coming off then ...so what? We  are ALL human aren't we?  He scored the first goal didn't he? Did Kellagher cheer that? Now if he didn't then he has a screw loose and he may not be as dedicated to the team as Polworth is and Mr. Kellacher  should be since he is an official and must set an example.'

However, shouting dog's abuse, including (apparently) curses and swears, at Polworth before he even  left the field  shows that he is unable, as an OFFICIAL, to control himself and his utterances in public. That being so, the fact is that had he kept his mouth shut outside the inner confines of the stadium then the incident may never have happened and it would never have shown up the club in public as a laughing stock. It is therefore up to the Board to deal with the situation decisively and really swiftly. If the new Board wants the public to respect them and ICT then they have to set an example. And allowing cursing and swearing by officials and /or players in public, although it seems to be the trend of society today without censure attending it, is nver going to set the tone for anybody associated with this club or anybody outside it's confines who wants to follow it's progress and as an example of an upright, well-managed entity.

If the new Board wants to  attract reputable talent  who have the  desire to be successful and looked up to on all levels, then they had better react strongly immediately to this fiasco.

The incident may have been brushed under the table for now but the festering will still be going on under the surface and the Board of Directors of our club, in its 'present weakened and sinking state, cannot try to brush it off if they want the respect of the players, their management and support from the public. They must  send a message that is unmistakably clear. They must do what is necessary and act.....

We are talking about our number 7  or is there  some other guy with the same name. Come on    Polworth  played like he was totally disinterested. If that is trying his best I would like to see him on a bad day.

It's worse than that. It's every two years. They bang on about winning the Euros as well.

You are right Kingsmills . - Off we go again,  As Nelson said " England Expects ",  Tough ask, because , Since 1966 and all that, England just can't take the pressure.

I get so embarrassed  , the news papers are mainly to blame.  The other home countries including the republic seem to have passion , no passion in a white shirt I'am very  concerned. I think Southgate is a good coach,

  9. I rather feel ICT finances will not stretch to anything better than a rookie manager , or a  proven manager for a lower league team.

Lower league managers like the guy at Accrington , stooped to watching Sunday league football in Liverpool, in the hope that he would spot a gem.

If Iceland  can qualify and put England to shame, anything is possible in football .

Plenty of giants in Scottish sport most play rugby though

That's a good post from Charles which illustrates that there is no easy fix.  People go to football for very different reasons.  Some turn up through thick and thin because it's their team and the team is just a part of their life; some go to be entertained; some go because they enjoy their team winning; some go to see the big names that other clubs have in their sides.  With respect to entertainment, it should also be noted that different things entertain people differently - some like end to end mayhem regardless of the quality of the play whilst others get enjoyment from a more sedate but technically more accomplished style of play.  There is no right or wrong about any of this and we really shouldn't criticise anyone who decides they will no longer go to matches.

But I think one of the problems we have is that given the success of the last 10 years or so, unrealistic expectations have been created.  Now that those expectations are not being met, people are staying away in significant numbers. Unfortunately the harsh reality is that every time somebody decides not to come, it makes it that much harder for the club to meet the expectations of everybody else.  It's a vicious circle.  Perhaps people could look at things in a different way.  Instead of asking whether or not you got value for your £20 at any given match, look upon the £20 as an investment for future success.  After all, when you look back at that incident packed semi-final against Celtic and then lifting the cup in the final, just how much are those memories worth?  We'll not see the like again unless enough people keep faith with the club through the bad times as well as the good.

"Doofers Dad and Charles"  are absolutely right.  I agree totally with their eloquent summing up in the state of affairs.

One of my biggest sporting regrets in my life is that in 1966 I was caught in a traffic jamb  traveling to Torquay with my girl friend to start my holiday , I  missed the game on TV and I just knew it would never be repeated.  Some 51 years has passed.

My point is that in any sport you love; is grab the minute when life is good, and not get too down with the converse

If ICT had ben top of the division and going well  , I would not have been at the game, because the competition does not rank in my portfolio of  sporting  must see activities. But because of our poor start to the season, I wanted to see how we coped with a relatively easier task  than those afforded to  us by our very capable  opponents in the championship .

I just hope that some lessons where learned by the management and the team, not to hopeful about No 7 though.

With regard to the £20 debate ,  my daughter who accompanied  me to a St. Mirren game one boxing day a few years ago announced to the assembled throng on exiting the ground  in a loud voice  , " Waste of  25 quid ". It was the first time she had watched Inverness.

  11. Without mentioning names I thought our No 7 looked totally disinterested throughout the game.

with regard to shouting from the stands ,  When people get upset and frustrated they will on occasion shout at the team, unlike myself I just mutter and groan not too loudly.

  12. I wrote this without reading what other fans have said so my comments would be original and not coloured by others , I will read their observations later

Taking into account the standard of the opposition the overall result was more or less as expected. so the score line was good. However the performance was average.

I suppose we have to be thankful for small mercies

Two saves by our excellent goalkeeper helped immensely. It was notable that the custodian took on the role of organising the defence, throughout the match he was forthright in his  annoyance of the standard  shown by the back 4.  Mainly  their positional play and failure to press and close down in a professional manner.

The midfield I thought was not up to standard their weak play put the defence under a lot of pressure, especially towards the end of the game , when a lack of fitness seemed to take its toll

The forwards are weak not enough strength and a target man most be found before any real progress in that department will be found.

I was pleased with the attitude in the team in general, they worked hard and seemed enthusiastic. One or two, I won't name because if they read this, it's not fair, but they are not up to the job, in skill, and their passing is very average to say the least.

It is nice to see an improvement but their is still a long way to go.

It may be old news but still worth making the point that Raven has been a fine servant and would improve our defence just now. It makes no sense whatsoever to be paying him but not fully utilising him.

I agree totally - There is life in Raven yet

  14. Not sure what administration will bring in Scotland

Did not Airdrie get punished in a draconian manner some years back. We all know about Rangers. Leeds in England had numerous points taken off them.

I went to an away game with Bury at Brighton and had to suffer the embarrassing sight of watching the home fans throwing money into buckets , to help save the Bury club.

Fans were being asked to buy bricks in the stand walls  , and pay for seats with their name on them.  So embarassing

Whatever happens administration must be avoided at all costs

  15. Quote

The trouble with I  relying on rich people who suddenly get the urge to run a football club, is that when they pull the plug or they rob the till, all hell is let loose.  Recent events  in the 2nd city of the once British Empire show that to be self evident. My own former club Bury had to be saved by a fan based buy out not because the club spent too much , but because the owner lost all his money speculating in the city. All I can say is Kingsmill and Charles are dead right. We have been lucky in the past to do as well as we have, Was not Aberdeen bailed out recently by the tune of 17 million pounds. Financing them to get our players on the cheap.  A travesty if there ever was one. I got into a row  after the last Aberdeen match, because I piloted out they were only good because they were financed . I think that it is a problem right across football especially in Scotland, Clubs basically have to generate their own funds unless they are lucky or they have a fan base to fill Ibrox park, and they struggle to keep up

Did JH not get sacked at Hartlepool , I am thinking from memory here, the seed of Hartlepool's demise might have originated from his tenure.

  16. Long before I came north ; Inverness were becoming a legend  ( I remember on the Bury message board people were commenting on an ICT result  at Ibrox .  In deepest Sussex I was reading  stories of unbelievable victories.

One of the reasons for me living up in these parts was the thought of watching this amazing team. I read  Charles's  book,   (Against all odds ) and it read better than a novel, I ordered six copies and I sold them more or less straight away , interest in the team even in America and Australia was apparent .  if it had been fiction nobody would have believed  it .    When I watched the semi finals  - and  then the finals against Aberdeen and Falkirk , I was really in my element  It was wonderful. Now there is a equal and opposite reaction. If we ( and I use we with pride for an outlander )  are to survive and build  again, we will be stronger and better for it.
