We paid the going rate for decent quality Premiership standard players and would have continued, more or less, to break even had we not been demoted.

The mistake was giving a new contract to a manager who had started to fail badly and was in public dispute with the chairman which was then compounded by replacing him by a complete rookie who it turned out, whilst a very decent player, could neither manage or coach.

Don't blame the players for accepting what we offered for playing for a club often hundreds of miles from home.

    Where did I blame players?

    Think you misread?

I merely inferred that bumper contracts, were commonplace, many with appearance clauses and ludicrous kickers that would obviously be difficult to maintain if we came down from the top league.

And many of the latterly signed players weren't even amateur class.

  2. We handed out silly contracts like sweeties , to guys who weren't worth half what they got.

We've been skint since relegation, fighting fires since then.

And don't forget forans 4 year payoff.

Draper fee paid the wages for a month or two.

I agree that he was a great player for us, especially in the cup winning season.  Some folks on here have short memories, and cannot see past his performances towards the end of his second spell with us, when he was clearly not fully fit. Nor was he for the year at Dons/County. However I do feel now that he will struggle to get back to his best, so perhaps it is just as well that he has gone to St Midden, not that we could have afforded his wages anyway.

I can certainly see past his performances in our cup winning team, I can see all the way back to his first less illustrious spell with us when he left for greener pastures elsewhere.

I don't agree with his great player tag - he was a good player in a very good team...a team full of quality & overachievers...and lots of graft.

I was disappointed with his performances in his financially enhanced final season with us - like a lot of the team, however it was his attitude that set him apart from the rest.

Still seventeen games, almost half the league season, to go. Sort out our depressing tendency to fail to hang on to the lead and a play off place is still well within our grasp especially if Walsh continues his goal scoring form.

We were in a far worse position this time last season yet still only fell short due to a ninety fifth minute equaliser by Dunfermline.

It's not been great of late but, personally, I'm not giving up on this season just yet.

I can see your point,  nothing being mathematically ruled out yet,  I just think we have been taking one step forward and two back for a while now. Every choice, every decision being made reactively to circumstances, chasing the promised land. I would like to have a strategy to play a certain way and players would have to fit in with that style - the youth could then have a clear path to the 1st team as their training would mirror the style of the senior team.

I'm just not sure we would be ready for a return to the top just yet.

  5. Seeing as the past months worth of games have been pretty poor and have generated quite a lot of negative reaction and navel gazing - is it time to start thinking about rebuilding the squad with an eye on next year, as surely this years chances are beginning to look decidedly ropey.

  6. Draper was classed as unfit on arrival at County, McKay had groin issues for some time before he was loaned to us...as for Tansey I suppose his appearance bonus that his agent 'negotiated ' meant he wouldn't want to miss too many games.

    It's not all about us.

  7. I will say one thing regarding White yesterday - he had the ball played up to him about 6 or 7 times in the first half, medium height and pace in to the body, just needs a cushion touch then a turn & pass...this was accomplished  0 times.

Obviously playing back to goal isn't his forte.

  8. Think Dorans time might be at an end up here, lost any pace he may of had and takes forever to release the ball. Hasn't been influential at all of late.

Didn't realise it was Donaldson who sold himself with a Dobbie turn for their second, not his best moment in an ict shirt...Surely it was for McKay to do that whether he was man marked or not.

Poor, weak finishing again  apart from Walsh's 2.

For some reason in the build up to our goal 3 guys went to challenge White, leaving acres of space for us to capitalise.

I'm afraid the balance of play had begun to tip in Queens favour after we went 2 up - midfield overrun the point of dropping off and our front two just don't track back,  especially Austin.

..It's as clear as day with the finances the board aren't desperate to go up...

Or is it clear that no one, board included , are desperate to put the club to the brink - again.

Don't think it's really clear how perilous things were just a short while ago...getting rid of Drapers wage and banking 100k in the process made a hell of a difference. Might not seem like much but that's where we were, and are not to far on from at present.

Reality check. Out of the 10 teams in the championship we are 6th in wages for players - where are we in the league ?
