A Group of hardy ICT InterNutters are at it again as final plans are
laid down, supplies are gathered and anti-blister creams, lotions and
potions are applied. This year the Marchers set out bright and early
at 8am from Tulloch Caledonian Stadium on Sunday 30th April for the
first leg - a 23 mile jaunt which takes them as far as Sluggan
(Carrbridge).
WHY??? - Well it all started back in 2002 - Interthenet wanted nothing more to do on his 50th Birthday than walk to a football ground to watch his beloved Inverness Caledonian Thistle. He started telling people of his mad plan and was rousing interest from various other InterNutters. It was mentioned that it may raise the profile of the walk if it were to become a Charity Event. It was also thought that it would be clever if the walk could be done from the penultimate fixture to the final fixture of the season, and this has remained the tradition of the InterNutters annual outing ever since.
Bronson, Elvis, Caley Canary, Gringo Junior, Gringo and Mrs Gringo were to join Interthenet on HM1 - a walk of 160 Miles from Inverness to Falkirk in May 2003.
April 2006 and the fixtures haven't been so kind due to the season ending earlier to release players for World Cup duties. Walking the penultimate game to the last game would mean a trek of over 145 miles in less than 3 days. You'd have to be a real 'Nutter' to attempt that, right? Well, thats exactly what one of the marchers is going to do, and you've guessed it, it will be Interthenet (Yompa) - keeping the Highland March tradition alive. He will leave Tulloch Caledonian Stadium on Wednesday night after the match and make a bee-line south, picking up with the rest of the troops en route.
The Marchers have again been busy raising money for Charity by selling raffle tickets. All proceeds from the raffle and collections en route will benefit the MFR Charity Trust and Team ICT. A bucket collection will take place at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium on Wednesday 3rd May prior to the Falkirk match.
