"We've informed Inverness that Craig was very grateful for their offer but, after thinking about it and discussing it, he would be looking for a move. From the Inverness point of view, it was a record offer but you have to put it into context with the goals that Craig had scored for the club and his market value.”
{styleboxop}Inverness have made him a very good offer - David Baldwin{/styleboxop}Previously, the agent had stated, "Whenever I've spoken to Craig he has always talked fondly about Caley Thistle and you can tell he's really enjoyed his time at the club. He knows that he runs the risk of perhaps going elsewhere and it not working out whereas he has the option of re-signing for a club that wants him, while the fans have really taken to him. Sometimes it can be a case of better the devil you know, but the first task is to talk to Craig as soon as possible to see what he wants to do. Inverness have made him a very good offer and he is grateful for that, so he has a lot to think about. However, no matter what his decision is he will speak to Inverness first to give them the opportunity of having first refusal on him."
Clearly it was a good offer but not enough to entice the player to stay with the club where he made 67 appearances (62 starts, 5 as sub) and scored 32 goals in two seasons.
{styleboxop}It's very disappointing that Craig has rejected our offer - Graeme Bennett{/styleboxop}Director of Football Graeme Bennett was quoted as saying "It's very disappointing that Craig has rejected our offer but we wish him all the best. We still have good strikers in Graham Bayne, Dennis Wyness and Rory McAllister but we're looking to add now Dargo has gone."
One player that might not feature in this search is Liam Buchanan the 22-year-old Cowdenbeath striker. He has been offered a pre-season trial with no guarantees but may instead opt for Ross County who are said to have offered him a full time deal. Buchanan, speaking in the P&J said "Inverness have asked me to go up there for pre-season - but if I have an offer of full-time football from another club it would be hard to take a risk. If Inverness decided they did not want me, I could be left in limbo."
