Caley Thistle have finished top of the SPL, seeing off their rivals to lift the inaugural Football Fans in Training 5-a side trophy.
The 7 man squad of ICT supporters faced opposition from FFIT participants at Celtic, Rangers, Dundee United, Hearts, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, St Johnstone and St Mirren, as well as an all star team including ex-players Derek Ferguson, Billy Dodds, Alan Preston and the BBC’s Richard Gordon, on their way to winning the cup at St Mirren Park.
FFIT is a 12 week healthy eating and physical activity course run by community coaches at all SPL clubs and is funded by the Scottish Government and the Football Pools. The 412 men who completed FFIT programmes across the SPL last season lost a total of 2.3 tonnes in weight, 24 metres from their waists and had a great time “It’s like a night out with the lads without the drink”.
ICT FFIT goalie Stephen Hobain, aged 37, joined the course last September. He’d piled on the weight since stopping smoking 5 years ago and couldn’t shift it. He lost almost 2 stones and dropped a trouser size whilst on the 12 week course “The Caley Thistle coaches gave us fantastic advice about how to improve our eating and becoming more active. I have taken up running, cycling and swimming as well as 5-a-side football and have never felt better.”
Inverness Caley Thistle have been set the challenge to sign up 100 men for FFIT 2011/2012. Fans aged 35-65 with a trouser waist size over 38 inches can register by calling 0800 389 2129, texting FFIT to 88802, emailing ffit@sphsu.mrc.ac.uk or visiting www.spl-ffit.co.uk.
