Sunday 6th August: Hearts v Celtic (Setanta, 2pm) RECENT FORM INVERNESS CT: Inverness have had a pretty good pre-season. Due to a possible place in the Intertoto Cup, a tour could not be planned until the last minute. As a result, Inverness didn’t get into the cup and so it was off to Italy where they won 12-0 and 5-0 against Montecatini and Tuscan Select respectively. Then it was back home where there were victories against Elgin City (2-0), Clach (6-0), Deveronvale (2-0), and Ross County (3-0) and an understrength team went down to Peterhead (3-2). Also Ross Tokely had a testimonial against a strong Sheffield United side where Caley Thistle went down 3-0. Last week they kicked off their SPL campaign with a 2-1 loss to St Mirren at home. After taking the lead through Craig Dargo, John Sutton stunned the Highlanders with a double to take all three points. Inverness never really got going and will need to improve for the visit to Aberdeen. ABERDEEN: Aberdeen had a mixed pre-season. They won 2 games easily against Highland league teams then went on a tour to South Africa where they only lost one game. They returned home and beat Montrose in their last pre-season game and Calderwood has high hopes for the season ahead. The Dons started the season away to Hibernian and took the lead against the run of play through Stevie Crawford. Although Hibernian deservedly equalised when Dean Shiels scored after 31 mins. The game finished 1-1 and Aberdeen where happy with their point. PAST MEETINGS The teams have played a total of 10 times (6 League, 4 Cup) with 17 goals (4 Inverness CT, 13 Aberdeen) between them. After beating Celtic in the third round on their own patch Inverness were out for some more giant killing against Aberdeen in the 4th round. On the 20th of February 2000, Inverness CT appeared on Sky Sports for the first ever time at home to the Dons. Inverness took the lead through Bobby Mann on 50 mins but Aberdeen stole a replay with 10 mins to go as Guntveit equalised. The attendance was 6290. FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL. • Aberdeen are unbeaten in all fixtures between the teams. • The biggest win in the fixture was when Aberdeen won 3-1 on 16/4/2004 away to us at Pittodrie! McBain scored Inverness’s solo goal. • The last meeting was on 1/4/2006. It was a top six decider which Aberdeen won 1-0. It was a tightly contested match in which 7368 turned up to see Lovell score the only goal. PLAYERS TO WATCH Craig Dargo (ICT): The Caley Thistle forward continued last week where he finished off last season by opening his account with a diving header. Dargo will be keen to match last season total of goals and possibly earn a Scotland call-up. Darren Mackie (Aberdeen): The striker has a lot to thank Inverness for. Had we not taking him on loan Calderwood would not have giving him a chance.
