    ICT V Hearts - Preview

      Teaser Paragraph:

hearts_h.png6 Games, 6 defeats, that is the grim statistic going into this weekend's match with a Hearts side that halted the Rangers momentum last week by winning 4-2. On the same day, the Caley Jags lost 5-0 to a rampant Celtic.

Can Craig Brewster turn improving performances into points or will it be Hearts who build on their tremendous result from last week. Andrew Fraser previews the game.

    A GAME TO REMEMBER

For this weeks game to remember we take you back another one of Inverness’s great cup killing shocks. On the 26th January 2001 in the Scottish Cup 4th round, Inverness CT were drawn away to Hearts. Nobody predicted a shock, but Inverness weren’t listening.

A tremendous display from the inform 1st Division side gave the Highlanders another giant cup killing act to add to their collection. Ross Tokely’s opener was cancelled out just before the break by Gary Wales of Hearts. A few thought that was the chance of a shock gone but Inverness showed the world how to play football in the second half when Dennis Wyness and David Bagan both slotted perfect goals to gift Inverness CT passage to the Quarter-final.

Man of the match was Hearts fan Ross Tokely. The attendance was 12016.

The teams were as follows: INVERNESS CT: Walker, Tokely, Mann, McCaffrey, McBain, Munro, Duncan, Chrisite, Robson, Ritchie, Wyness. Subs- Bagan (for Christie), Calder, Bavidge, Golabek, Stewart. HEARTS: Niemi, Webster, Severin, Mahe, Maybury, Flogel, Gronlund, Fulton, McCann, Fuller, Wales. Subs- Kirk (for Webster), Simmons (for McCann), Adam (for Wales), McKenzie, Kazcan.

The referee was Alan Freeland and there were two bookings on the day: Duncan and Robson both of Inverness CT. Six of the Inverness players who started the match still play for the club!

    PLAYERS TO WATCH

Marius Niculae (Inverness CT): When will he break his duck in the SPL? Surely it has to be in the next couple games, but hopefully on Saturday we will all be put out of our misery!! The Romanian at times has shown touches of class but has only 2 League Cup goals against Arbroath to shout about so far. Lets hope it is a case of once he scores 1, he will go on a scoring run. Craig Brewster (Inverness CT): Will he start or not? Well it is up to the manager isn’t it? Last week Brewster dropped himself in favour of Dennis Wyness because he was doing well in training. Brewster is a quality player and someone that could even do a good job coming off the bench with 20 mins to go. Dean McDonald (Inverness CT): Give this guy a chance Brewster!!! He deserves it with good showings in the recent reserve games. I don’t know why he has never started yet, after being top goalscorer in pre-season. Might not have played but he seems to be a hit with some of the fans already.
