Desperate Stuff A dreadful game where we shared a goal apiece with almost relegated East Fife. We prevailed in the penalty shoot-out to earn the bonus point but the performance was not what was expected. I know I know it is usually a competition we use to fine tune our squad but we are a far cry from the finished article going by that performance. An absolutely honking performance mostly played at pre-season pace. The one bit of quality got us level in time added on, from a neat finish into the bottom corner by MacKinnon after good work down the left flank. Otherwise dreadful. Too many players looked as if they were still on a pre-season jolly with no apparent urgency on the job in hand. I've seen better stuff at the Hub over the last few weeks from under 12's. I don't know why I bother sometimes. Gaffney opened the scoring after the half hour in a dour uneventful game. It started with Scotlandesque defending and a poor choice of ball out of the box from Savage. Sole failed to control the ball. It was transferred forward with the Fife forward player looking yards offside and Myles Gaffney knocked in with nobody near him. Our attacking efforts were as insipid as the national team as well, however MacKinnon's goal in time added on was a good low curling effort from around 16 yards after two or three players were involved down the left side. Ross Munro made one good save in the penalty shoot-out as he saved the Fifers second spot kick. We put all five of ours away comfortably. Shinnie, Wotherspoon, Kargbo, Bates and Longstaff winning us the bonus point. Reis Peggie, Pat Slattery, and David Wilson scored from the spot for East Fife with Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton having his penalty saved by Ross Munro. In the other Group F fixture Linlithgow Rose pulled off a good win at Cappielow, defeating Morton 1-0 with a goal from Callum Rae early in the second half. We play the Rose next week at Prestonfield. We were not the only Championship side to struggle. As well as Morton going down, Dunfermline were pumped 3-0 at East Kilbride. League Cup Group F A visit to the Rose on League Cup action saw the Caley Jags run out comfortable winners with Rose keeper Cammy Binnie in outstanding form to keep the visitors goal tally down. We did strike twice in the first half through Ryan Duncan and full back Noa Boutin. The stats will show that Binnie made nine saves which is a great effort and it also shows that the Caley Jags got eleven shots on target from fifteen attempts and an incredible thirteen corners! Inverness are at home to St Johnstone on Tuesday night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's the talking points: 13: Attempt saved. Graeme left footed shot from more than 35 yards is saved in the top left corner by Cammy Binnie. 17: ICT forced a couple of corners before Ryan Duncan fired home from the centre of the box. Inverness won four corners on the trot shortly after that came to nothing before Morgan Bates shot over. 38: Paul Allan saw an effort from outside the box saved by Binnie and Noa Boutin was on hand to score a great second for the visitors. We finished the half with a flourish as Bates shot wide and Alfie Stewart was denied by Binnie. HALF TIME: 0-2 46: We started the second half still on the front foot with Binnie keeping Bates out on the restart. 55: Paul Allan was played through but Binnie saved again. 60: Alfie Stewart's corner was sent goalwards by Bates but it was cleared off the line. 62: Shinnie's ball saw Duncan bring out a good low stop from the keeper. 72: Substitute Liam Sole fired one in from range but once more Binnie denied the visitors, and Hamzad Kargbo netted moments later but was flagged offside. 77: Ross Munro was called into action to save from Calum Rae and two minutes later Danny Devine headed over and Rae fired another effort over the bar from outside the box. 83: Kargbo met Allan's cross into the box but Binnie stood firm. 85: Last big effort of the game fell to Jordan Tosh's head with Munro saving. Jags at the Rose It's the second League Cup fixture for the Caley Jags as they travel to Prestonfield to take on Lowland League East side Linlithgow Rose. Rose got off to a winning start in group F as they beat Morton 1-0 in their opening fixture as we struggled to a 1-1 draw with League1 East Fife. On Tuesday night Rose lost 0-2 against Premiership St Johnstone with a Caley Jags XI playing out a friendly at Strathspey Thistle and bagging six goals. Morton made our draw with East Fife look like a ground breaking result as the Fifers beat them 2-0 on the same night. We have had defender Kerr Smith on trial during pre-season and he has penned a one year deal. As expected, Jordan Alonge has left the Caley Jags to try his luck at Salisbury FC in the sixth tier of English football, National League South. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Bus/Info Loan Agreement with Brora ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inverness got off to a low key start with a disappointing performance in their opening game. We did win the penalty shoot-out but our performance left a lot to be desired with an error strewn lackadaisical ninety minutes. Poor defending, no bite in midfield and no service for the front men saw us struggle to make any headway with East Fife taking the initiative to punish an error from Liam Sole to open the scoring before the interval. We huffed and puffed but never blew the house down before a time added on strike by Adam MacKinnon took it to penalties where we netted all five spot kicks. We have added defender Kerr Smith to our squad with Jake Rodgers, Archie Kerr and James Clark being loaned out to Brora Rangers. Jordan Alonge is no longer on the payroll. The great start to group F for Rose was put on hold in midweek but they can hold their heads high after a decent performance against now Premiership St Johnstone, going down 0-2 in front of over 1200 fans. Two down at the break, they kept Saints out for the whole of the second half with Cameron Binnie making a handful of saves to keep out the eager Perth forwards. They had beaten Morton last Saturday with Calum Rae scoring the only goal of the game after an hour at Cappielow . The stats show that Binnie had no saves to make in a deserved win over the Chamionship side. KEY INFOAll supporters will enter via the social club end of the stadium. There will be two cash, two card and two digital ticketing and assisted access entry points. Supporters may use the stand on a first come, first served basis. The stand should be accessed via the stairwell at the social club end of the stadium. The other stairwell is restricted for emergency exit and/or use by club officials and directors of both teams. Drums and megaphones are not permitted in the stadium. Anyone wearing a balaclava or similar face covering will be refused entry. Anyone found to be wearing same inside the ground will be ejected. There will be a bag search at entry. There are two catering points for use by all supporters. In addition to the regular sale of teas, coffees, pies etc (housed under the enclosure), a local award winning Indian restaurant will be on site selling pakora, curry, loaded fries etc. The social club function hall will be open to supporters of both teams subject to capacity. The nearest pubs are 5 – 10 minute walk from the stadium. There is car parking available at Linlithgow Academy and there are car parks in the town centre. Supporters should not park in the business units across the road from the stadium nor in the flats nearby. Please park sensibly around surrounding areas and give yourself plenty of time to get into the stadium.

League Cup - Season Opener The 2026/2027 competitive season kicks off with a home fixture in the Premier Sports Cup, group F. It's not an event we have put all our eggs in the one basket over the last few seasons but I'm sure we will give it a go. Group F consists of the Caley Jags along with Premiership St Johnstone, Championship Morton, League1 East Fife and Linlithgow Rose from the fifth tier in the Lowland League East. East Fife managed to avoid relegation from League1 last season including a hard fought 1-1 draw with the Caley Jags in the penultimate game of last season. Dick Campbell remains in charge. The loss of Michael Mackenna will be a blow to them but Mamadou Bah has signed a new deal at Bayview, as has David Wilson and Reis Peggie. The experienced Pat Slattery is also backalong with Liam Newton and Kieran Millar and in 38 year old Derek Gaston they have a vastly experienced man between the sticks.
