when scrolling side bar to bottom of page, that seemed to be when the page froze most time, and that where adverts slowly rose up from.

I get that most of the time - about 75-80% of the times that I visit the site.

First thing I usually do is scroll down to see if there is anything new in Memory Lane, or in here.

If there's nothing new, then straight back up to the top to see what the news is about the team - and that's when it usually freezes.  The FF message "This page is slowing you down..." then comes up, and I can stop whatever it is trying to load.

I'd hope we had some certainty with Sutherland given the fact we extended his contract after he got a long term injury!

There's no certainty with an injury like that.  It was the morally correct thing to do, since he was injured giving his all for the club.   Yes I know we have financial problems, but I support the decision.

    Never heard of Bill McAllister.

On no, have you made me feel so old!    I first met him in the late 1960s.  For many years he wrote on Highland League for the P&J and Evening Express.  Was basically the "goto" man for anything to do with HL football, and probably other sports too.  As Mantis said, for a while he ran a Highland football magazine - I was looking at some old photos recently, and was reminded that I had a sticker for it in the back window of one of my old cars.  The mag probably didn't have a high circulation here in the SE of England!

Have seen a few local history articles by him on the Courier website.  He was also a local councillor in Inverness for many years.

I am sure that is what they are meaning.  Has it changed over the years as you could re-call a player that was on loan in the past or does the club have to put in a clause in the loan contract?

From a very quick look at the SPFL rules, it looks as though there is provision for emergency recall of recognised goalkeepers - provided that that was written into to the "temporary transfer" contract - but not for outfield players.

Temporary transfer periods must be aligned with "registration periods" - basically must end in either the January transfer window or at the end of the season.

... did they really think they would get any sympathy from the authorities?

Exactly what "assistance" did they ask for from the authorities?

Either they said that because of the injury situation, they would not put out the strongest available team.  In which case they could expect little sympathy.  Or did they ask for a postponement - and for how long?

You put the best team you can on the park in every game.

Presumably the Diddy Cup has no rules about that?  There have certainly been recent disputes about that in the Football League, which had - maybe still has - requirements for you to play as strong a team as you can.

we have to act NOW if we have any ambition of promotion

Promotion this season is gone, and I doubt if we could to afford to sack and pay off Dodds, and then hire someone new.  I know that others disagree, but the number of injured first-pick players must also be having some effect, even if "only" psychological.

Someone thought that Dodds' contract ends after this season.  We will probably have to wait and see what happens then.

On a positive note, I don't think we will be relegated!

With me - Windows 10, Firefox, no extensions that I know of - when the site first is first loading I am now frequently getting the Firefox message that is something like "This page is slowing Firefox down.  Stop or wait for it to load?".

Just had it again, a couple of times.  It's actually "This page is slowing down Firefox.  To speed up Firefox, stop this page.".  There isn't a "wait" option.  Firefox had 15 or 16 processes running - though I had only one tab open - and, at that time, one of them was using about 30% of CPU utilisation.

When I first start it up and it's on the default Firefox home page, it has 8 processes running.  Right now it's 14, so coming here adds between 6 and 8.

  9. With me - Windows 10, Firefox, no extensions that I know of - when the site first is first loading I am now frequently getting the Firefox message that is something like "This page is slowing Firefox down.  Stop or wait for it to load?".   It must be having problems trying to load something - maybe external ads?  If I stop it and then refresh the page it usually loads OK.

I am also now seeing ads (actually copies of the same ad) between messages in a thread. This started a few days ago, so I guess you changed it.

I said to my son yesterday that there wouldn't be a lot of goals in the game, as we struggle to score one, and if Arbroath scores first, we would be lucky to get a goal back, but I could never see us scoring two. Far too many times, we seem to want too much time to get a shot off, it should be shoot on sight, but going by the pre-match shooting that they do, their shooting at goal is one thing that needs a lot of work.

Indeed.  Our main problem since Billy Mckay left for the first time, in early 2015, has been that we have not had a reliable, consistent goalscorer.  And that includes the twice that Billy has been back.  Yes, I know that players who fit that description are few and far between, but it should be a priority.

And, having seen a lot of streamed games during the last two seasons, I know that I've said a few times that basic shooting practice is badly required.

Has been with the club since 2013 (since youth team). I'm guessing he's happy here or he would've left by now.

Depends on what his ambitions and circumstances are - I simply don't know.  He is still only 25 - young for a goalkeeper - so I would guess that he could well still be hoping for first-team football somewhere.

    poor management

Depends on what the reasons are.  I was reading an interview with Martin O'Neill earlier. (He has a book coming out.)  He, of course, learned much from Brian Clough, and was emphasising that the manager sometimes has to be harsh or hard with a player.  Not unfairly, but sometimes they just have to show the player, and the rest of the dressing room, who is boss.

I also think that if you have a decent second keeper, as Cammy is, then you have to give him a few outings, otherwise he will become unhappy.

    Hope it all works out.

I doubt Stenny have any responsibility tbh?

Sorry, I meant that Stenny surely should identify clashes and notify all concerned.  They must be best-placed to identify them.  I agree, of course, that they don't have any responsibility to sort it out if they are not involved in the clashing matches.

It would be extremely naïve for three clubs involved in a ground sharing agreement not to be looking ahead at possible fixture clashes especially Queens Park

I agree with that, though I still feel that the principal responsibility must rest with the organisation which manages "bookings" for the ground - ie Stenny - just as it would with any other type of venue.

That is a good article, pointing out the inconvenience caused to both sets of supporters, especially ours.

How are they solely at fault? This clash has been known about for months

There is evidence for that?  Do all clubs check all fixtures in Scotland in case of a clash?  I suppose there might - but only might - be someone at the SFA who has a list of all fixtures, but they probably don't check for clashes.

The person who should have known, and raised a red flag, is the person at Stenny who is responsible for the calendar of usage of the ground.  If they did give the clubs and leagues notice of this, and no subsequent action was taken, then they are in the clear.   But if they didn't....

... nor has Cammy Mackay suddenly become anything more than a cheap 'break glass in case of emergency' backup keeper.

I respectfully but firmly disagree.  Because of no streaming I have seen very little of ICT this season, but I did see a lot last season.  Cammy had a very good run for a few matches, and I don't remember him being any distance behind Mark in terms of goalkeeping.  i also remember starting a debate by saying that his ball distribution was better than Mark's - rolling it to a team-mate instead of hoofing it downfield straight to the opposition.

Obviously I don't want any rift between the manager and any players, but Cammy playing in goal for a few games wouldn't bother me.
