Its a date; Hibs Game moved
Fixture list on this site and the official site was also updated with this info yesterday ........ incidentally ... for those taking part in the SPL Prediction League ... it should be noted that the Celtic/Dunfermline match scheduled for 17th March has been brought forward to 22nd February for the same reason as our Killie match has been moved. All fixtures up to the split have now been entered into SPL-PL and barring any more changes/postponements are correct and available to be predicted .......

Today's Attendance
That actually makes sense Charles. Open All Mics was initially broadcast worldwide as an alternative to live commentary but the same argument could be made about OAM (and sounds like it has been) that the BBC themselves used to succesfully have Radio Clyde chastised ..... and would explain why they shut it down outside the UK. Radio Clyde were allowed to broadcast goal information during a game, as well as pre-match, half-time, and full-time segments, but were not allowed to broadcast commentary (as the BBC held the UK rights along with the clubs who had UK and worldwide rights). However, they kind of did similar to OAM and maybe had 'extended' goalflashes where the commentator would report on the goals but also give an idea of how the game was going or even a few seconds commentary if something was happening ... a bit like Open All Mics does ... its inevitable you will end up with 5 or 10 seconds of what might be deemed "commentary" in that situation but its against the rights contract. Its a shame, because OAM, whilst perhaps contractually regarded as 'commentary' is NOT commentary in any fans view, its a great wee service that is as enjoyable to listen to for the banter as it is for the information (rather than commentary) which it provides .... especially when Robbo is having a go at Chick for the "travel the A9" stuff ! Frustrating they cant broadcast it worldwide, but having done a lot of research into the rules over the years, I understand the reasoning Indeed. it definitely sounds promising.

Butcher for England Manager
Will he get the job? .... NO Will he be considered? .... not seriously. May be mentioned in passing as a former England captain who is in a managerial position, and who is iconic to many England fans, but not a serious candidate as he has not managed in the EPL or another "top" league. The SPL doesnt count to the FA !!! Could he do the job? .... Absolutely. Personally, I think a national job is easier than a club job in some respects. You are dealing with egos and PR rather than transfer budgets and daily training and I think Terry could handle it. He would also surround himself with a good backroom team that the FA would make sure he got. Would he take the job? .... Yes. It would be foolish to think otherwise. He's English, he's a football manager, so the top of the tree has to be the England manager's job. He's very settled in Inverness, and there are not too many jobs he would leave us for, but this is definitely one of them in my opinion (Ipswich and possibly Rangers being other potentials). And with a reputed salary of about £6 million for Capello and rumours of Redknapp being offered £4m a year, even if Tel lowballed it to £3m a year he could still pretty much live up here to get the life he loves and fly to work when required ...

Chick Young on Caley Club Song.
I know ..... but it doesnt quite work so call it poetic license !
-
Chick Young on Caley Club Song.
Sure we could make something from Ken Dodd "Happiness" by substituting "Inverness" !!! Also wondered why we never mangled a version of Caledonia to suit us. Was quite interesting a couple of years ago in Toronto when Alan Frew from Glass Tiger re-recorded a special version of "My Town" as a favour to a friend who was also a fan of the club .... It still gets played at half-time or at the end of the game sometimes .... thought it was really good. Wonder if we have any musician fans who could do the same? or whether we could bastardise one of the songs of an artist who has played a concert at the park ? Anything in Elton or Rod Stewart's discography ?
-
Chick Young on Caley Club Song.
a few of those 'borrow' others' songs .... and so did my effort from a few years back which was to the tune of Fields of Athenry (long before we reached the SPL and based on the actual folk song, not the bigotry assigned to it in ensuing years) By a low seafront wall, I heard a young man call We're going to watch the CaleyJags play, Through the wind and the drizzle, We will follow Caley Thistle, At our fortress on the fields of Longman drive .... Chorus Low lie the fields ...... of Longman Drive Where once we watched all the dolphins dive Tokely, Mann and Christie, Barry Wilson turning and twisty, At our fortress on the fields of Longman Drive. ..... had other verses but cant remember them now ....

Bloggers ?
... I read it !!! it makes for interesting reading at times .... and as you do the onerous task of compiling the POY standings, its only fair that i generate some traffic to you
-
Bloggers ?
Ok folks ... are there any bloggers out there ? We currently have 4 blogs on the site .... well 3 really .... Blog 1 is our admin blog where we have and will continue to feature some info about the site and any of the site features we are asked more about, or where we think people may not be aware of the little tips and tricks you can use to make life easier ..... happy to accept suggestions for bits of the site you might need more explanation about. Blog 2 is CaleyD's personal blog where you can read his sometimes worrying thoughts !!! Blog 3[just posted] is my own personal blog "Across the Pond". I hope to bring some articles with a MLS slant to the site, maybe talk a little about Toronto FC, MLS or just other football culture over here and sometimes tie it back into the Scottish game ... or I may just go on a rant about something else completely random from time to time. ..... the first article was just posted. Blog 4 is a bit of a "cheat" in that its not a hosted blog but a linked blog ... so a link to an external blog that Hislopsoffsideagain has had on the go for a while. You may have heard of Narey's toepoker ? well you can get to it directly from our blog list page. Blog 5 should come soon ... and it is a surprise !! hopefully a pleasant one ! I kant say much more right now To access the blogs click "blogs" up there on the menu bar ! the most recent entries will be shown first, but you can filter it to show all blogs and other options. If you want your own blog, or to link to a pre-existing blog like hislopsoffsideagain has, give me a shout and let me know. We previously enabled blogs for all users but after getting about 50 blogs with single entries and then never updated (including my own) we ditched that idea on our most recent site upgrade and set it so we need to enable blogs for those who request one. If you want to write one, its a minimum requirement that it must be updated "regularly" but we havent really defined "regularly" yet so if its daily for you that's great, if its weekly or monthly then that too is great, but if its yearly ... we'll pass !!! Also, in terms of subject, it doesnt have to be ICT related, although a few references to the team will always be acceptable .... We have so many users in so many different corners of the world, and with so many personal stories, we figured this might be a way to broaden all our outlooks ....... if not, then so be it, ho hum and all that !

Improving the matchday experience at TCS
As a shareholder, I can answer at least one bit of your main question .... payment to shareholders is ZERO ! Have had my shares since the first share issue and never had a penny from them ..... not that I wanted any return, nor did I expect it ! I think the answer is mostly similar for directors .... although there may be legitimate out of pocket expenses happening. Directors also purchase their season tickets each year as far as I am aware (unless things have changed) .... no freebies there !
-
Today's Attendance
Not sure if it is still the same but of the current crop of SPL teams, the clubs who did request their commentaries were blocked were: Aberdeen, Celtic, Dundee Utd, Hearts (games at Tynecastle only), Kilmarnock, Rangers. Most requested it because they had their own service to sell to fans overseas. not sure about Dunfermline or St Johnstone as they werent in the SPL when I last checked the arrangements, but I know ICT, St Mirren, Motherwell, and Hibs did not. This is the one I dont understand either .... OAM was excellent for those without access to the live commentaries, and given the dour nature of some of our commentators, actually better to listen to for the banter some weekends .... seems no logincal reason for blocking this other than the BBC perhaps making life easier for themselves and blocking all output rather than having to work out wehich streams can be broadcast and which cannot ...... I find this story a little hard to believe given the frequent compliments issued about our ticket office staff. However, I would suggest the club perhaps do have to be more careful for this type of game given the past history of away supporters in the home end. Sounds more like a club policy than a refusal for no reason.
-
STRIKERS!
To take your list ....... and add the ICT strikers (plus Higdon and Skacel) in the relevant spots .... seems like we arent doing too badly !! I do take your point about St Johnstone, and the impact of Sandaza, but the rest of your argument kind of falls apart due to the bad stats. Something similar will likely happen to St Johnstone when Sandaza leaves !!! 14 - Rangers: Nikica Jelavic (now at Everton) 12 - Celtic: Gary Hooper 11 - Dundee Utd: Jon Daly 11 - St Johnstone: Francisco Sandaza 09 - Rangers: Steven Naismith 09 - Celtic: Anthony Stokes 09 - Aberdeen: Scott Vernon 09 - Hibernian: Garry O'Connor 08 - Inverness CT: - Gregory Tade 08 - Kilmarnock: Paul Heffernan 08 - Motherwell: Michael Higdon 08 - Hearts: Rudi Skacel 07 - Inverness CT: - Andrew Shinnie 07 - Hibernian: Leigh Griffiths of your others who you said have been prolific this season ..... Dundee Utd: John Russell --- 5 goals (same as Jonny Hayes who is 3rd on our SPL scoring list this season) Dunfermline: Andy Kirk --- 6 goals (2 less than Tade!) Hearts: Kevin Kyle --- 0 goals (injured since last season) Motherwell: Henrik Ojamma --- 3 goals (only 1 more than Greg Tansey who is 4th on our SPL scoring list this season) St Johnstone: Cillian Sheridan -- 4 goals (1 less than Jonny Hayes who is 3rd on our SPL scoring list this season) St Mirren: Steven Thompson --- 6 goals (2 less than Tade!)

Current Climate
It is folly to call anyone a better or worse supporter than another in any way shape or form ...... we all support the club as best we can and in whatever way we can based on our own personal circumstances. I have not attended regularly since 2003 as a 7000 mile round trip is not really feasible most weekends, but when planning trips back home - unless its for a specific event/purpose - I have to admit to scanning the fixture list for suitable dates and working towards that. Others may live out of town, may have limited financial means, may have other personal commitments like looking after children, or work commitments, or may be younger supporters who cant get to all games because their parents have commitments (or aren't interested) .... and none of us should look down our noses at anyone for that !!!! I am comfortable with my commitment to ICT, with the work I do behind the scenes assisting ICT, and with the sense of pride I get from being able to be their unofficial PR ambassador in Toronto (along with luvgravy of course) mentioning ICT at every opportunity when I go to TFC games, or just when out and about in the city ..... not to mention the sense of connection I retain from having run this site for the last 18 years !!!! I may not agree with the comments posted by some on here, I may not personally like some who post on here, but for the most part, I would not question anyone who comes on here and shows their support of the club

Improving the matchday experience at TCS
I love this comment on the bottom of the Toronto FC pricelist: http://www.goltv.ca/...-SINGLEMar8.pdf In-game atmosphere is huge .... I have been to TFC games where the team were crap, and where they got royally rogered but I came away with a smile on my face because of the banter that was flying around amongst the fans !!! Conversely, I have been to games where we won and played well but the atmosphere was flat and the fans felt that way too !!!! I have encountered the same at ICT too !!! Other than that, I think more thought should be given to pre-game and post-game entertainment to make it more of a day out. Forget half-time, no-one cares, they're all too busy talking to each other or trying to grab that elusive pie or bovril ! At TFC there is what amounts to a street festival outside the stadium before every game with vendors, freebies, and things like beat the goalie or other games to engage the kids (while the stall staff try to sell the adults something or get them to signup for something) !!! These vendors/sponsors presumably pay for a spot there before games so far from costing the club money, it generates it ! After the game, the same occurs (to a lesser extent) and quite often one of the team sponsors may be giving out freebies at the exits .... believe it or not, I have headed home from TFC games not only with things like pennants, little flags, keyrings or beanie hats, but also with boxes of Frosties and packs of Spaghetti !!!!!! This sort of thing costs the club nothing !!! Wonder whether ICT could have something like this near the front of the stadium, charge local/small vendors, food vans, or sponsors to come sell their wares in what would amount to a "market" kind of idea ...... a few quid from the vendors, more choice for the fans, and an opportunity to maybe generate more income from an hour or two either side of the game rather than just from 3-5pm ???

ICT 0-2 Celtic - Scottish Cup
Inverness fail to turn up Celtic brushed aside a lack lustre Inverness to go into the next round of the Scottish Cup. Inverness only managed one decent effort on target but big Fraser Forster dived full length to turn the ball round the post. Celtic dominated thereafter and cruised to victory with Georgios Samaras capitalising on an error by Ross Tokely to smash an angled drive through Jonny Tuffey who should have done better, and the game was beyond Inverness when once more David Proctor gave away a penalty, converted comfortably by Scott Brown. A well below capacity crowd had little to shout about at the home end, in stark contrast the away fans were in a mood to party and conga'd the afternoon away. Seeing as the team couldn't be bothered to put the effort in, I can't be bothered to write a report. Inverness fans were not best pleased by their sides contribution in this game and I will let them tell the story of the day we never turned up. First up is Tichy_Blacks_Back who commented during the match:- Celtic don't look anything special on first half showing but just not too sure how Tel will change it to give us more bite. Tuffey looked to have misjudged Samaras's shot even though it moved in the air but not a whole lot. Thought Ross has worked hard and Hayes may just be trying too hard to impress. Alex Macleod was still confident at half-time though:- Forty three minutes of good play and two minutes of madness puts us one behind. Repeat the forty three minutes with 110% concentration and we can still do it. RiG observed:- I think that victory for Celtic was the definition of "routine win". ICTPAISLEY was less than impressed:- I've been looking forward to that game for a while now and to be honest it bored me. Up until their first goal the game was going well and we were holding our own. Then a lapse from Tokely, Proctor and Tuffey means we concede a very soft goal. 2 minutes later and Tokely was at it again but this time he was even more stupid, rolling the ball back to Tuffey with Hooper in his way but luckily we got away with it. The goal in the 2nd half was just as bad, Proctors attempt to block Hooper and allow the ball to roll out evidently failed and Proctor in a clumsy panic barges into Hooper for us to concede yet another penalty this season. Hooper might have gone down easily but there can't be any complaints as there was definate contact, Proctor had no chance of getting the ball and was reckless. We created a couple decent chances and had a claim for a penalty at one stage but apart from that this game was just going through the motions and was a very routine 2-0 win to Celtic. I thought Nick Ross was doing fairly decent today and was surprised when it was him coming off and not Hayes who had a complete nightmare, I don't know if it was because he was pushed to far forward but he never got going in the match at all. A bit of hope came when Sutherland and Gnapka were brought on and Sutherland looked promising and for 10 minutes we looked like we might equalise but our pressure came to nothing. Gnapka had a very poor game and if i hadn't heard of all the hype from the last match i'd have thought he was a mediocre player at best. Pass marks today are for Gillet and Shinnie but overall a poor performance from us. We went on a great run unbeaten so to lose today isn't really a surprise just a bit dissapointing to lose out on Hampden yet again. Maybe next week we can get the shock win we all crave DavieB was also not chuffed:- We gifted them both goals, and to be honest, we could still be playing now and wouldn't have scored. Our sole tactic in the first half seemed to be to just lump it up to Tade...who had no chance against their defenders. And surely Terry must realise by now that Tade is never going to be an out and out striker. He's alright out on the wing, but that's about it. First goal was a total cock-up by Tokely. Mind, Tuffey should've still saved it. It might've had some power in it, and swerved, but it was straight at him, and seemed to just go through his hands. Second half...same as the first. We were totally outplayed. Proctor thought the ball was going out, it wasn't. Clear penalty. Game over. Oh well, not that I really expected anything from the game anyway, but I can't remember the last time we made it so easy for one of the OF. Even less happy was Hislopsoffsideagain:- Rubbish game, rubbish result, rubbish performance, rubbish weather, rubbish attendance. Did I mention it was rubbish? To be fair we were making Celtic work very hard until their first goal - I haven't seen the TV pictures but I had several texts from friends watching the game on Sky who also highlighted Proctor's failure to track Samaras for the first goal. However the fact is that Tokely made a complete dog's dinner of it and, for all the power and swerve in Samaras' shot, Tuffey seemed to get two hands on it. I'm staggered that, in a game of such importance, Butcher decided to use our second choice keeper. I don't care about keeping Tuffers happy - the cup is the only chance we'll ever have of winning anything (and even a replay would have been worth £££), so Esson should blatantly have been in goal. After we fell behind, we seemed to switch to some sort of 5-4-1 system with Gillet slotted in as a third centre-back and Shinnie and Meekings as wingbacks...which was a foolish move as it just condemned us to being cramped in our own half. We never looked remotely like scoring in the second half. I didn't agree with the substitutions either - Nick Ross was having a much better game than most of his teammates, and I'd much rather have had Tade on the pitch than Sutherland. The second goal was even more farcical than the first - initially Tuffey's throw out to Sutherland was risky at best, then Sutherland gave the ball away and put us in trouble, and finally Proc made a hash of shielding the ball out and bundled the forward over for a penalty. And that, as they say, was that. Pass marks to Gillet and Ross, but that's about it. I felt quite let down by the lack of fight we showed in the second half. Opportunities for glory don't come around all that often for ICT players - and they well and truly blew their chance today to make a name for themselves. Was thinking after the game about our centre half situation - for me, Hogg, Golobart and Williams are our best centre-backs (all of whom were injured), and Gillet is probably the next best. So today we had, for me, our 5th and 6th best central defenders on the pitch. I'd like to see any other SPL team keep out Celtic with their 5th and 6th centre backs on the field! Doofers Dad was more philosophical:- What makes this so disappointing was that this was the poorest Celtic side I have seen at TCS, they were there for the taking and too few of the team seemed to be up for it. The match stats indicate that it was generally pretty even and in general I think that is a fair reflection with neither side really posing any serious threat. The difference was really two moments of defensive madness which led to the two goals. I simply don't understand why Esson was not playing if he was fully fit. Credit where credit is due though. Samaras took his goal very sweetly and Celtic defended well. Our front players are being criticised here but to some extent they played as well as they were allowed to play. Celtic were very effective at closing down quickly and cutting out the through balls as soon as things got potentially threatening. Foran put in a tireless shift and tried to lift his team but with little effect. We only ever got half chances and nobody had the quality to exploit them or to create anything better. I have been a bit criticical of Nick Ross in the past but for me he was our best player today and I was disappointed he was subbed so early. Apart from giving away the penalty I thought Proctor did well. It is easy to pillory players for obvious errors but the stats show Celtic had very few attempts at goal and that is a reflection of what was generally a pretty solid defensive performance from our team although Meekings was very poor when going forward. One should always try to take something positive out of a disappointing situation. The positive today is that Jonny Hayes will definitely not be joining Celtic. Renegade was a bit puzzled:- I have no qualms about that result whatsoever. ICT were poor and never got going at all. They weren't even beaten by the better team, just one that wasn't as bad. The game could be still going on right now and the score still begin with "Inverness nil". There was no bite on that team at all, with nobody who really looks like they are capable of scoring goals - but then what do expect of a front four that contains three wingers and a left full back? The selection itself was odd - where was Shinnie meant to be playing? He seemed to switch from sitting behind the striker, to left wing to full back. Why wasn't Gillet at centre back to cover Tokely with Shinnie at full back, with either Sutherland or Gnakpa playing out wide? Surely that would've made a lot more sense. I'm also of the opinion that Tokely plays best at centre back when he has someone alongside him who can act almost as a sweeper. Gillet would've been perfect for that role today. Davie can have the final say:- That game was almost as disappointing as reading this forum. As a team, we didn't turn up. Never mind the individual errors, which have been done to death here, we didn't compete in midfield and the supply to the front was pretty well limited to long balls. What got me was that the best way for us to deal with Celtic was to play a high tempo game and disrupt them. Yet almost everything; crowd, pitch, weather, even the anouncer was so low key. Onwards and (hopefully) upwards. So,there you have it folks, straight from the horses mouths, and almost unanimous about the dismal performance and likewise for top players, Nick Ross and Kenny Gillet escaped most criticism and Richie Foran worked tirelessly, but on a day when you need to be at your best, too few bothered to turn up. Back to SPL business mext weekend and lets hope we get that game out of our system before then, as it's Celtic who are the opponents once more. 4th Feb 2012 Scottish Cup - Rd 5 Tulloch Caledonian Stadium Inverness C.T. 0 - /media/images/club_badges/inverness.png TEAM: Tuffey, G.Shinnie, Gillet, Proctor, Meekings, Tokely, Hayes (Winnall 74), Tansey, Foran, Ross (Gnakpa 61), Tade (Sutherland 61) SUBS: Esson, Piermayr Booked: Proctor (68) Sent Off: none Celtic 2 - Samaras (33), Brown (pen68) /media/images/club_badges/celtic.png TEAM: Forster, Kelvin Wilson, Rogne, Mulgrew, Matthews, Brown, Ledley (Twardzik 90), Wanyama, Hooper (Stokes 81), Samaras, Commons (Forrest 62) SUBS: Zaluska, Majstorovic Booked: none Sent Off: none Referee Calum Murray Attendance 5743
