  1. I think the current squad is fine and all we need is three things, a striker, a centre forward and a goal scorer.

And if we can't manage that we could always follow the example of the FC Magdeburg fans who felt the need to show their misfiring forwards where the goal is!

  2. I think Luke's case is a good one. On the one hand Jonny is probably ambitious to play at the best level he can. On the other hand he is very settled in Inverness with Sarah. That makes it a tough choice for him.

You know that c.£150k windfall we're getting from the cup replay against Dunfermline and the tie versus Celtic? Well that would have been £0 if Jonny hadn't chased a lost cause in the 94th minute and stuck it in the back of the net on the 7th January. I don't think it's asking too much to give Butcher a third of that cash to boost the offer he can make to Hayes.

All the squad know Hayes is our best player, anyone who follows them on Twitter can see that, so I don't think any one of them would resent him getting an extra £500 a week on a two year contract.

  3. Found a better record and surely this one is the official record. Bottom 6 of the SPL last 5 matches we never conceded and won all games.

    Livingston 2-1 Inverness 08 April 2006 ( last goal conceded 81 mins)

    Motherwell 0-1 Inverness

    Inverness 1-0 Dundee Utd

    Livingston 0-1 Inverness

    Inverness 2-0 Falkirk

    Dunfermline 0-1 Inverness 06 May 2006

And in the first SPL game of 2006/07 against St Mirren we conceded after 55 minutes. So the record is 514 minutes then. 162 minutes to go!

  4. It was found in this archive of illustrations and pics. I do actually wonder why they went to the expense of removing it when it would have alleviated traffic volumes on the Ness Bridge in future years. I suppose there were probably no traffic jams in 1963. and it wouldn't have been aesthetically pleasing to the town planners of the time who preferred everything to look like Lego.

This pic from the collection - High Street in 1975 - is fantastic I think.

  5. The "temporary" bridge actually opened in 1939 two weeks before war was declared. It stood for 22 years as post-war austerity delayed the start of construction of the current Ness Bridge until 1959.

Edit - Make that 24 years as I discovered the temporary bridge was demolished in 1963.

  6. Aberdeen could draw next week and we would still be 6th if we win. Problem is there's such a gap between 5th and 6th we are effectively in a mini league of 5 teams chasing 6th place. That cuts our chances greatly. It's a pity that 5th place is probably out of reach before the split. Could actually have done with St Johnstone not beating Hibs today strange as that may seem!

  7. We need to look after ourselves. The league match in a months time is now more vital for us not to lose. Dunfermline are not that far away from us at present. We now need to make the most of the extra cash but remember Dunfermline were last relegated in the year they had a good cup run. That said, we got our revenge for that last night.

We'll be fine. I know they're only 8 points behind us with a game in hand, but remember they had 8 points after just 4 games and have only gained 6 points since. They have just lost to the SPL's 2nd and 3rd worst teams (going by league position) at home and shipped 3 goals in each game. I think they'll be doing well to make 30 points this season.

But as we'll be in the top 6 come the split that'll be of no concern to us!

  8. Regardless of the team selection we should win this. Dunfermline have managed only 6 points from their last 17 league games. Even Hamilton last year were miles better than that.

If we lose this it will be a shocker. And a very expensive shocker as the next round v Celtic will likely be on TV.

  9. We have always been about the collective rather than the individual. There have been 59 SPL monthly awards given out during our time in the SPL. We have won 6 manager of the month (read "team of the month") awards, zero young player of the month awards and one player of the month award. And guess who got that?

  10. Steve Williams quotes:

"They all look sharp on the ball and the togetherness in the team is unreal".

"Before they go out they get in a huddle in the changing room and you can really feel a connection in the team".

I wasn't aware that they did that. Is this something they've done for a while or did Captain Hayes introduce it?

  11. I think the Reebok Stadium is a great example of where a modern stadium fits in to modern life. It's basically situated in a retail park next to ASDA, Boots, Pets At Home etc. Do the shopping and take in the football in one go. Anyone who's seen it couldn't fail to be impressed.

Could the new Caledonian Stadium be part of an extended retail park on the A96?

  12. I will make a prediction right now ...... there will NEVER be a 4th stand at the current TCS, or at least not a full-sized one. At best - as and when it was actually needed - we would get something similar to what we have now, perhaps as a safe standing area with half a dozen rows or something like that.

    My reasoning .....

    1. We do not need it, have never needed it, and are unlikely to need it in the near future to satisfy ticket demand.

    2. This is the main reason ...... The pipeline would likely need to be moved if we needed to build a "proper" stand there. What we have already is basically compact terracing with poured concrete to accomodate a small quantity of seats located far enough away from the road to not affect the pipe (or regulations surrounding it). A proper stand would require a far bigger footprint, deeper founds etc etc etc ... and you then start to get into dodgy territory due to proximity rules for working near, or locating structures beside, high pressure gas lines.

I don't know the exact figures, its not my field of expertise, but I do remember the debate on here and also on Pie and Bovril at the time when we built the small enclosure and depending on the type of work undertaken, the minimum distances can be as little as a couple of metres (hand excavation) or as much as 250/300 metres for mechanical excavation.

From the National Grid's own publications ,...... "The relocation of existing underground pipelines is not normally feasible on grounds of cost, operation and maintenance and environmental impact."

    Removal Costs: http://www.nationalg...L2011_04_11.pdf

Best map I can find .....

    uk_electransmap1.gif

I didnt read the documents above thoroughly (got bored), just had a quick glance, but basically, my understanding is that if wanting to move or remove a pipeline. the 'third party', which in this case would be ICT, would not only be responsible for the physical costs of doing so, but also for all feasability studies, environmental impact assessments, all other costs or studies, and even the cost of infrastructure further down the pipeline to cope with the extra workload put on other parts of the system..... basically a very large blank cheque to be issued before we ever start thinking of spending anything on the actual stand

The person who first posted this subject on P&B (a County fan) reckoned it would cost "millions" and despite his generally annoying nature on that site, on this subject he certainly came across as somewhat knowledgeable and dare I say it believable .......

Read this. It shoots down the idea that you can't build near a high pressure line. Hell you're allowed to do piling 15 metres away from the high pressure gas pipeline without supervision. See page 8.
