  1. No, Charles. The best side to ever come out of Dalneigh and winners of the Welfare League and Cup (twice, I think !).
  2. The Mapplebecks. Now that's a name I remember from doon the ferry - in Kessock Avenue ?
  3. That's bloody awful, Scarlet !!!!!!!!!! AND an old one ! Quite a few years back I was talking to Coffin John (Fraser) and he asked me (I think he must have been joking !) if I knew the Ozzie Prime minister at the time Malcolm Fraser !!! As if !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Thanks for your info, IBM and IHE. Until your posts I'd never heard of "Willie the Carse Walk" or Carnarc Crescent !! If it wasn't called Willie the Carse Walk, what is it called now ??? And it's "Jock" not Mr J. Watt, Mr Bughtmaster ! I too played on the pitches at the Bught ! AND won almost all o' them !!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Surely I'm not the only one left alive who remembers this man ? ! He had been injured during WWI by having his nose shot off !!! We treated him very badly by calling him names, etc. I believe he owned the farm between the railway line and the ferry and had a herd of Highland cattle grazing on it with whom we used to play Cowboys and Indians. What ever became of Willie ? What ever became of the Carse ? Or is it still there ?
  6. Well I NEVER EVER had to take any of that kerryon ! Although I remember a guy named Noble snatched it out of the singing teacher's hand and said "if you ever try to do that again . . .".
  7. The proof WILL be in the pudding ! One thing is for sure - next season will be INTERESTING !
  8. Flat Out Like A Lizard Drinkin' = As Fast As I Can Go !
  9. Too Right, Mate ! = I think you are correct, my friend !
  10. NO ! In Hamilton Street !!!!!!! And to think I finished my working life as an EDITOR in the Australian Joint Intelligence Organization ! Note the 'Z' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. And just to the right of the photo was Hamilton Street and the Highland News where I "served my time" in hand and machine compositing, and a number of my uncles were born !
  12. IBM and Charles - would you believe number 25 Bridge Street !!!!!!!!!!
  13. Sooo - what make of car is this one ? Anybody ever been in either of these "hotels" ?
  14. BUT - which one is supposed to be me ? Neither of them have a beard !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Charles - aye, the guy I thought was Butch WAS George Pyke ! Butch was a good friend of my parents, but I never really got to know him (although he always recognised me !). I left the Sneck in 1954 when 22 years of age to enter the English navy for my compulsory 2 years, followed by periods in Buckinghamshire and Edinburgh before arriving in God's country (by "God's" country, of course, I mean Hogan's country !
  16. I stands to be corrected, but in addition to my Dad front right, I believe also in the photo are Dupie Mitchell, Butch Sinclair and a guy whose surname was Rizza ! Dad at work.BMP
  17. >His place was on the left side of Greig Street going down towards the bridge and maybe some ten to 15 yards away from the end of the pavement very close to the river. I don't remember any other barber at that location .?< Yes, you are correct, Scarlet ! There was NO other barber in Greig Street ! And its location was exactly as you describe.
  18. Where was this ? Not in Academy Street, was it ?
  19. I mind nipping in there many a tome to drink from the vinegar bottle - great on a hot day !!
  20. I mind that we never bothered with this method - just lit some newspaper and shoved it up the chimney so that it reacted like a flamethrower !
