  1. I came across a reference online to a team called Inverness Celtic, who won the North Caledonian league in the 19th century and competed in the HL.

Does anyone know anything more about the club, where they played, who founded the club, what strips they wore, what happened to them, etc??

Edit: seems like there is an older thread on this theme, without much information.

  2. I actually think Pharaoh's was the name of the lounge at the Ice Rink where the alternative types would hang oot, and that they would take themselves on some other weekends to places like the Mercury.

Ah don't suppose it was the kinda joint for motor enthusiasts, IBM.

  3. Does anyone remember this club night, that seemed to take place mostly at the Ice Rink, or sometimes at the old Mercury??

Early 80s, alternative types, was too young to go, but seemed like an interesting night oot.

  4. Worst riot I saw in HL football was at Borough Briggs, 1980 Q-Cup final, Buckie v .... The Jeggies.

In fact, the second worst incident in my time also involved the Jeggies, v Elgin at Forres for some cup final in the early 90s. Madchester era.

So, who were the real hoodlums in Sneck football?

  5. Diggar sounds like a great guy (apart from the hun bit), but by feck he gave some rotten haircuts--the very name sent a shiver doon yer spine if ye were a trendy lad back in the day. Not even yer nits would survive that onslaught from big D.

  6. Did/does anyone know Ali Smith or her family, from St Valery Avenue? Quite an accomplishment to rise to be one of Britain's leading authors.

Did her father own the electrician's in the market?

  7. It's daft to compare Caley and Thistle Highland League attendances to ICT Premier League crowds--of course the latter would be bigger!

How many would watch ICT in the Highland League?

How many would watch Caley or Thistle in the Premier League, or even a new team created in a way that did not alienate the core support of both teams?

    I guess we'll never know.

  8. The attendance issue is always discussed in terms of numbers, when type of supporter is as important and relevant. If you compared the crowd at the Caley v St Johnstone cup game back then to the present day crowd, how would that look?

Yeah yesterdays crowd was a real shame especially after the impressive performances of late. Is it all down to cost? I don't think so. The appeal of these games has worn off and there is always something else that a lot of would be attendees would rather be doing than going to the ground to watch a game (that's their prerogative of course). Look at the Celtic game the other week. The North Stand didn't seem any busier than usual really. I think for a lot of folk in Inverness they simply don't have the disposable income after paying for things like rent, mortgages etc to be able to afford to go to every game. Wages can't be that high in the city given the main employers. Really hope we see crowds coming back. The players certainly deserve more folk to be coming along to see them but sadly going to see ICT isn't a priority for most of the city as the club, for whatever reason, just don't have a strong place in their hearts. Inverness just isn't a football place. it's not like say Aberdeen or Edinburgh where you know there's a game on when Aberdeen or Hearts or Hibs play. If you were in Inverness when we play at home you'd barely know there was a game on. Sadly I just don't see it ever changing.

That is nonsense, the town supported 3-4 clubs for over a hundred years, it is just that, for various reasons, the new club has never managed to energize people sufficiently, indeed it attracts hostility and indifference as much as enthusiasm and dedication.

  10. It's still early in the season, lots can happen yet, and he does seem to be featuring on the bench, which is something of an achievement given the size of the squad. Also seems to be a willing and quick learner.

I generally have a lot of respect for the young guys and the atmosphere they bring to the games. I for one salute you when your all in fine voice and drumming and I really feel its something that was lacking from the games previously, however I was at the Aberdeen game and there was a small minority of the group at the front who were giving the fingers and W*nkers motions to the Dons fans on both sides, as well as shouting obscenities and behaving in a threatening manner. To me, that does NOT justify creating an atmosphere, that is purely thuggish behaviour which does nothing to promote the team they are supposedly there to support. Most of the guys I seen, and a few of them I was getting a good laugh with on way home, were very well behaved. There is no excuse to act in a threatening manner towards opposing fans in the name of support. Also on the way out, the ones who decided it would be a good show of support to overthrow the barriers did nothing but create fear and alarm to the CALEY fans given where we all were, and I've got to be frank here, I was with my 7 year old son, and one of these boys threw a barrier just in front of us, and I swear, if that had hit my son, the boy responsible would have gone home with a very sore face

If these are the same youngsters that misbehaved after the St Johnstone game then we need to stamp out this nonsense right away. I thought they were Perth casuals at first and took some photos of them whilst walking back along Longman Road into town in the event that they caused trouble. I did see one of them being very abusive to a motorist at the entrance to Lorimers and thought about going into Burnett Road Police Station to report it. However, I thought this would be a waste of time and decided to continue on my walk into town. It does seem that someone needs to keep an eye on them for future matches though. I wasn't at Pittodrie on Saturday but those I saw after the St Johnstone game were mostly dressed in black, no ICT colours and some tried to cover their faces with hoodies and scarves.

    Did they have bumbags?
