  1. Think it was 84 or 85. Carlton upstairs. they were wasted and bottles were thrown around. Only played 5 or 6 songs and a number of fights broke out and they walked off. Was another band that night too, and cant remember who they were.

    How did I miss that?

What about old Inverness groups, mostly pretty ropey, The Kut and the like.

I suppose A Gentle Sound were the closest to a decent group that I recall from the Sneck.

  2. Sevco have ripped the heart out of Scottish football, the damage they continue to wreak will further affect the numbers of fans turning up for a devalued product, administered by absolute buffoons.

That they are still allowed to exist and drag down the name of Scottish football is beyond comprehension.

  3. Laurence,

You hit the nail on the head. Been told umpteen times about 15 clubs in the English premiership using EBTs. They are all dodging tax, and the bigger the club, the better the lawyers to maintain that dodge.

I think that the old / new club have been punished, as Celtic will pass their titles haul while they try to get back to the SPL or whatever guise it be in when they return. As with all these punishments its the fans who are effected most. The players Rangers had during the period in question, also lost them titles, and cups. What punishment should they get for not winning everything. Should we look at every dubious decision in those seasons, and award a new trophy if they changed the outcome.

Should we look at all of the spl being unfair, as both Rangers and Celtic pay their players more than anyone else, Is that fair?

Some amount of Greenesque logic there.

I have the same feeling for the Portsmouth fans too, they haven't asked for the problems they have had. And Plymouth, and Clydebank, and Airdrie, and Port Vale, Wimbledon etc etc. Been a Kingsmills Jaggie, I never asked for Caledonian to be added to my club, but have had to move on. Doesnt stop me believing we could have achieved our progress with out the merger. If Thistle or Caledonian had got into the scottish league themselves, they would have completely outgrown the others left in the Highland league, and become the dominant force in the Highlands. But as so many original Caley fans profess, its still not the same as if they still had their original club. Our current home strip takes the biscuit for me, not only does it obliterate Thistle, but it reminds me of Rangers :pukeright::frustrated01:

    All makes sense now.

  5. Funny thing about CB's posts on this topic is that he seems dismissive of the local, perhaps parochial elements of Scottish culture, yet has written books on local topics and appears a great enthusiast for all things "Shneck".

  6. AAhaa Mr Bannerman, well said. Exactly my way of thinking.

Central belt rule would see the Highlands as their waste area, bribe the residents to go along with their plans for windfarms, nuclear waste dumping, Pylons and all the nasties that would make money and prosperity for the lowlands.

Ruin our natural beauty, our scenic heritage. Scar the lands with millions more fir trees instead of the deciduous forests of old.

Ignore the fact ( as Westminster has done) that we have some of the potentially best deep water harbours around the UK that have never ever been fully utilised.

Flood more Glens and dam them to enable more pipeline exports of our wonderful water.

Oh yes, Scotland would be rich and prosperous but only as far as the Caledonian Canal............. If that!!

As for being a Democracy no chance, a dictated to Republic I fear. The signs have been emanating from this Scottish Parliament for some time now.

Be very careful for what you wish for.

I would like to think Scotland will someday be self ruled but the people and structure to do this successfully are far in the future.

Have you been listening to Laurence, bughtmaster?

On the prospect of ruining our "natural beauty," you could argue that centuries of mismanagement by absentee landlords have already done that. The idea that the Highlands is an unspoiled landscape is a complete myth. Every square inch of it has been exploited and altered, and the people have largely been cleared from it, which has allowed the complete disfiguration of what must have once been one of the world's most beautiful landscapes.

  7. I mind the stories in the papers when the latest version was built, of workers seeing ghosts in the building.

Will the ghoul flit to the new place?

Well Dougie, I am one of just three people left who have been in that building since day 1 and I've certainly never seen anything!

I believe the alleged ghost was meant to relate to the neolithic burial chambers on the site.

But on the other hand I happen to be writing this at my desk in the BBC in Culduthel Road where I've also worked for 30 years and which is also said to be haunted. Again I've never seen anything, despite keeping some pretty late hours here after midweek games when I'm in the building on my own as I am just now and I invariab

Oh dear, cut off in mid sentence, CB caught by the ghouls...

Think of it this way. If Scotland was an independent nation today and not mearly 'North Britain' how many Scots would vote yes to join the union. What would be the benifits in that? A minority in parliament of the Scottish vote, the parliament based miles away in another nation, the interests of that nation placed first, hand over all our revenue, including oil and gas, just to receive a smaller percentage of what we generated back to us in nothing more than pocket money.

This is the key point. How many Irish people would vote to rejoin the union? How many Jamaicans would want to be ruled again by their colonial masters?

The sad thing is we, especially Highlanders, have been colonized so successfully that we don't even realize it.

  9. I will lose it in two ways

One because all my parcels to the rump UK will be more expensive

Two because my books will be more expensive to buy because Amazon ( my main website ) will ask the buyer to pay Airmail fees

Since the beginning of August I have sold 73 books - I have not checked how many are non Scotland but say at least 40 habve gone to England and wales , on current Royal mail rates I will have to pay over £2.00 more in shipping fees

This is based on the Royal Mail staying in Scotland.

If Independece scares the Royal Mail off or an Indepent carrier gets the Scottish contract I feel the amount will be nearer £200 a week , these are just ball park figures, Yes I am scared, it is like buying an ICT season ticket every two weeks. Remember I sell a lot more around Christmas.

Pass on the extra postal fees, if there are any, to your customers. Your competitors will no doubt face the same price hikes as you, so will be faced with similar decisions.

Failing that, absorb the extra charges into your product prices, or spread the increase between the postage and product price rises. So ye can still make your millions and continue to live in Jockland and brighten up everyone's day.

Am no Donald Trump, but c'mon TF Laurence, you're the entrepreneur here.

  10. Read my post you lot before shooting me down, this is a serious , if the Royal mail goes it will cost mail order business' like mine a lot of money. All mail from Scotland outside of Scotland and visa versa . will cost a lot more. Post Offices will close, and a lot of mail men will lose their jobs. If you buy from Amazon or any other mail order supplier in Engalnd you will pay a lot more and wait a lot longer. It is bad enough now if you mention the Higlands but because Scotland is in thee UK we get the parcels. Wait and see how this will change, my guess is a lot. Just because Salmond has brain washed you lot dosn't mean you can't think

It's nice that you're the only one on here intelligent enough to not be brainwashed by anyone, though maybe "us lot" think there are more important issues at stake than changes to an already flawed postal system.

Surely if there are any problems a dynamic entrepreneur would be able to get round them?

Great thing is too that if we are unhappy with the place we live in we can always relocate to another place where things are more to our liking, and they charge a few pence less for sending letters.

  11. Gordieict, No, hate both. ICT and Liverpool as I have said many times before. Originally of the Kingsmills bias. Just as I have got older have hated them both more and more. Dont worry I slag off both halves just as much, but their obsession with themselves turns my stomach. Just find many of the happenings of the last few seasons laughable. Hate Lennon and the Celtic conspiracy thing

Hate Rangers and their Union Jacks and singing. And being of Catholic Irish background just hate anything religion based

Must have missed all those threads 'obsessing' about the ex-huns.
