Thank fork pre-season is finished. One of the worst on record for trolls coming out of the woodwork and spouting utter drivel. Let the new season begin.

League Cup Over & Out With Dundee winning only 1-0, that was no use to either club and they both leave the League Cup at the end of the group stages. Zach Robinson's 60th minute header was not enough to put Dundee ahead of Raith Rovers to claim a slot in the draw as one of the three best of the rest. For Inverness, we meddled with our starting XI and Harry Lodovica made an appearance in the second half. Danny Devine, Sean Welsh, Roddy MacGregor, Charlie Gilmour and Adam Brooks were nowhere to be seen, hopefully being prepared for the start of the Championship next week. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Official report from ICTFC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inverness gave as good as they got in this encounter but went down to a second half goal from Zach Robinson. Mark Ridgers made an early save from Pineda who flicked the ball forward from inside the six yard box but the keeper produced a brilliant reflex save to deny the Mexican and tip the ball over the bar for a corner. Billy Mckay had a close range shot tipped over by Jon McCracken in the Dundee goal and Nathan Shaw curled an effort inches wide after good work by Keith Bray. Austin Samuels lashed a shot over after a cut-back from Billy Mckay five minutes before the break as the visitors saw the better of the first half. After the break a Mckay shot rolled just wide when he got the break of the ball through on goal. Mark Ridgers was called into action as he made a good save to keep out sub Amadou Bakayoko's powerful effort after an initial mix-up in the Inverness defence. Robinson's goal, despite Ridgers' effort to claw the ball away on the hour, meant Dundee needed one more for pole position to qualify. It never came despite them upping their game with Bakayoko and McGhee going close for the hosts. McCracken saved a low effort from Samuels with ten minutes left. A frantic ending saw both sides flash the ball goalwards but the score remained at 1-0 to Dundee at full time. A decent workout and if we don't have fresh injuries, I presume we rested some players ahead of the start of the real season. Gilmour was suspended. Last chance to impress Dens Park is the venue on Sunday for what will be our final league cup game of this 'pre-season' in a 3:00pm kick-off. All is lost as it's only the three best second placed teams that qualify for the knockout stages. In the other game in group E, Airdrie take on Bonnyrigg with Dumbarton having played all their games. The best we can take from Dens Park/Kilmac Stadium is to find out our best starting XI and get more game time and understanding amongst the players before we open our Championship account against Queens Park next Saturday. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match Info/Tickets/Supporters Bus Ethan Cairns & Harry Hennem on Loan £££Cash turnstile for ICT Fans on the day£££ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts 1 Air 4 4 0 0 7 2 5 12 2 Dun 3 2 0 1 4 2 2 6 3 Dum 4 1 1 2 3 6 -3 5 4 ICT 3 1 0 2 5 6 -1 3 5 Bon 4 0 1 3 1 4 -3 1 Airdrie beat Bonnyrigg 1-0 on Saturday to win the group and be the seeded team in the draw. Dundee will need to beat us to have any chance of being one of the three best second placed teams to progress. They will also need to add some goals to boost their chances of qualifying. We just need to turn up and get some serious practice ahead of the Championship Season next weekend. It could be a long day... Latest Team News Sean Welsh and Roddy MacGregor missed out against Airdrie but Welsh will be fit although Roddy might be better waiting another week. Lewis Nicolson has injured his knee and will be out for some time. Keith Bray was a stand-out in the second half against Airdrie with Nathan Shaw looking the most likely to add a few assists from his creative wing play. Luis Longstaff might have potential, only game time will tell. However, our defence needs to cut out the glaring individual errors which have blighted our games so far. Harry Lodovica is still a target and is expected to sign once the paperwork is sorted out. Harry is in the building and good to go! Dundee are in the big boys league now. Decent squad with plenty in reserve. By all accounts the two Mexicans are excellent acquisitions. They have added to their attacking options with the addition of physical striker Amadou Bakayoko on loan from Forest Green Rovers. What! I started it...

Does that mean you walk the dog of a man who knows Billy Mckay's uncle who goes on P&B. Saying you are a friend of BM is not fact. Maybe fiction.

Diamond Presents Sean Welsh and Roddy MacGregor missed out in this one and Wallace Duffy dropped to the bench but new signing Luis Longstaff started and Max Ram made the bench. Nikolay Todorov started for the Diamonds, and he would have the final say.. An early opportunity gifted to the visitors almost brought about the opening goal. A short pass back allowed Todorov to latch onto the ball but fortunately Cammy Mackay was out quickly to block the shot. A couple of forays forward gave us half chances to no avail. Lewis Nicolson left the field on a stretcher as our injury woes started early to be replaced by Cammy Harper after quarter of an hour. However we never learned from our early slackness and Airdrie were allowed to stroke home the opener from the edge of the box through a grateful Ballantyne after a defensive blunder by Davidson who gave the ball away too easily. Before the half hour it was two blunders and two goals for the Diamonds who didn't have to do too much for their lead. This time it was Devine caught dwelling on the ball on the edge of his own box and Telfer clipped the returned ball home tidily. Shoddy stuff from the hosts who were chasing the game already. Substitute Harper lashed a free kick from a promising position into the wall and that was about as much as we could muster in a shockingly poor first half. The Caley Jags sheepishly left the field at the interval to the sound of boos. HALF TIME: 0-2 Second half changes saw Duffy, Bray and Brooks on at the restart. Almost a third for Airdrie after a corner seemed to ricochet onto Mackays left hand post and he then blocked the rebound shot with his legs. We had upped our game in this half without threatening the goal but it did come when Charlie Gilmour lashed a tremendous volley from near thirty yards behind Rae after an hour. Duffy headed over from a good position off a free kick as we pushed for an equaliser. Inverness won a penalty when Billy Mckay burst into the box and was brought down. He then rewrote the record books as he slotted home comfortably to level the tie. We continued to force the game but the final ball or shot was elusive. We were undone in the final minute when Airdrie broke forward and again the ball was stroked into the net for what would be the winning goal by former Inverness favourite Nikolay Todorov. We incredibly missed a couple of opportunities to level the game but the ball just would not hit the back of the net with Rae making a point blank save at the death after Shaw's shot was deflected, the keeper clawing the ball away from the line. FULL TIME: 2-3 A rank rotten first half where we gifted goals to the Diamonds was our downfall. Having got back into the match with a superb strike from Charlie Gilmour and a record breaking goal from Billy Mckay we looked likeliest to go on and win the game. However Todorov had the final say with a late winner to end our League cup chances. One shining light was the second half performance of Keith Bray who made a few marauding runs forward. A bright future ahead for this young man. Is he a modern day Ted McMinn? Nathan Shaw was probably the pick of our players with some neat wide play but his crosses went unanswered. Charlie Gilmour opened his account with a long range volley from thirty-yards A nasty looking injury to Lewis Nicolson might shorten his season after he appeared to catch his studs and twist his knee. Here's hoping the scans are favourable for another of our promising youngsters. Overall, it wasn't a great performance although the second half picked up somewhat until Toddy drilled home at the end. Meh! These performances have pretty much taken the shine off of Billy Mckay's 102 goal record which has just about been swept under the carpet. Absolute legend is Billy and he has plenty more to come. HELLO AIRDRIE Tuesday nights fixture is now of the crucial kind if we want to progress in the ViaPlay League Cup, or like the sponsors, we will not be participating for much longer. Given results over the weekend we find ourselves in big trouble with the prospect of getting out of the group stages diminishing rapidly unless we can find our feet and turn over the Diamonds. Not an easy task given their performance on Saturday as they beat Dundee 1-0 with a late penalty to follow up their 2-0 defeat of Dumbarton in their opening fixture. With Dumbarton beating us and a bonus win over the Rose, they are tucked in behind Airdrie in second place with Dundee and ourselves struggling in 3rd & 4th place. Dundee are at home to Dumbarton the following night and will fancy taking three points from that one, so it's win at all costs for us on Tuesday night. Kick off 7:45pm Tuesday 25th July GAME INFO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts 1 Air 2 2 0 0 3 0 3 6 2 Dum 3 1 1 1 2 3 -1 5 3 ICT 2 1 0 1 3 3 0 3 4 Dun 2 1 0 1 1 1 0 3 5 Bon 3 0 1 2 1 3 -2 1 Team News Inverness have signed wide player Luis Longstaff on a two year deal from Cove Rangers. Most of our squad have had a run out over these games with the exception of Max Ram who is not match fit yet. If this is still pre-season then it has been somewhat of a failure. The only bonus has been Billy Mckay notching his record equalling 101st goal for the club. That's a fantastic achievement and hopefully it won't be too long before he secures the outright leadership in the goal scoring charts. Airdrieonians stunned Dundee at the weekend taking all three points to put them top of the table on six points having also beaten Dumbarton in their opening tie. Plenty of useful players at Airdrie. We know all about Nikolay Todorov but let's not forget that this side hammered Falkirk 6-2 in the Championship play-offs at the end of last season. Starting XI v Dundee Rae Watson Fordyce Taylor-Sinclair Ballantyne Frizzell McCabe Aiken McGregor Gallagher McGill Subs: O'Connor (53 McGill), Todorov (78 Gallagher), Telfer (81 Frizzell) It's a long time since we last played Airdrie, in any shape or form. 20 years ago we won the Challenge Cup in Perth 2-0 with goals from Bingham and Hislop against the then Airdrie United. Our last game against an Airdrie XI was a 4-0 win over Airdrie United at the Caledonian Stadium in 2010. Ian Broadfoot reports from the Caledonian Stadium in 2002, probably the final game v the original Airdrieonians. Steve Paterson's 300th game in charge produced a very welcome victory which stopped a slide down the league. Caley Thistle lay fourth last Saturday but slipped to seventh in midweek without kicking a ball. This win resulted in a climb to fifth. The first half was a nervous period with Caley Thistle trying hard but achieving little. Airdrie's best chance came in the first minute when they were awarded a free kick 20 yards out. Mark Roberts drove the ball goalwards and Nicky Walker dived to make a good save. In 13 minutes a high David Bagan cross proved troublesome to Airdrie keeper Allan Ferguson but he tipped it over. Five minutes later a Barry Robson corner from the right reached Grant Munro beyond the back post but he could only bundle the ball over for a goal kick. Stuart Taylor created a chance for himself at the other end in 29 minutes but he wasted it with a scuff past the post. In 33 minutes the home sides best first half chance fell to Dennis Wyness after good interplay with Charlie Christie but the striker hit it over from 10 yards. A minute later Owen Coyle reached a corner at the back post but left it to Taylor but he mishit to concede a goal kick. The tempo of the match changed in 50 minutes when Robson sent over a cross from the left and Martin Bavidge scored at the back post despite Ferguson getting a touch. This lifted Caley Thistle and calmed a few nerves. They kept on top after that but could not score a second goal. Robson strode through the Airdrie defence just after the goal but his shot deflected off Alan McManus. On the hour mark Ferguson raced out of goal to the touchline to just beat Bavidge to the ball. Ferguson saved Airdrie again in 76 minutes when he dived at the feet of Wyness as he stretched to reach a Bavidge curling ball but it went harmlessly for a goal kick. The nerves returned in the last few minutes as Caley Thistle worked hard to preserve their lead. With three minutes left Airdrie nearly stole an equaliser when a seemingly harmless Taylor header beat Walker but came back off the post into the relieved keepers arms. Despite a seemingly endless three minutes of added time Caley Thistle held on to win. EMBARRASSING STUFF AS BILLY NETS 101 This result took the shine off of Billy Mckay's record breaking feat as he equalled the 101 goal record of Dennis Wyness. A combination of great striking from the Wallace boys, poor finishing from Inverness, the crossbar and in general, pre-season blues saw Dumbarton deservedly win this tie. Dress it up any way you want, but this was not good enough against a League Two side. Congratulations to Dumbarton and get the finger out to Billy Dodds and his squad. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some good early play from the visitors went unrewarded with Austin Samuels and Billy Mckay missing half chances. Mckay had a 'goal' chalked off after 20 minutes, Duffy infringing in the build up. The hosts took the lead on the half hour. A headed clearance from Duffy was met by Ryan Wallace and he volleyed home the opening goal to give the Sons the advantage. Great strike! Inverness knocked on the Sons door for the rest of the half but to no avail. Hilton replaced Pignatiello five minutes before the break after he pulled up. Not a great first half for the visitors who will need to up their game for the second half and it was difficult to tell which was the Championship side at the interval. HALF TIME: 1-0 David Carson prodded a Shaw cross goalwards at the start of the second period but it came off the crossbar. However it was disaster for Inverness when Tony Wallace scored a second for Dumbarton with a close range header five minutes after the interval. Duffy was next to hit the woodwork as his diving header smacked the bar. Charlie Gilmour brought out a great save from Broun as Inverness looked to get back into the game, the keeper saving in the top corner. Billy Mckay gave Inverness faint hope with a record equalling goal. However the gloss was taken off his achievement by the poor performance of the team as Dumbarton saw out the game to sour Billy's fantastic goal scoring record which he will make his own in the coming season. FULL TIME: 2-1 A dismal night for the away support as we were second best across the park. From CTO: Same as the last few seasons. No one with authority on the pitch. Lots of energy, but running around like headless chickens. As often as not, a forward pass goes to someone running back towards you, and he comes back 20 or 30 yards before passing the ball, sideways or further backwards. Opponents always seem to be smarter, better placed, make better interceptions, and above all, finish better. Sure we hit the bar and all that - but we weren't unlucky, it was poor finishing. Very depressing.
