This probably isn't the right moment to split hairs but, whilst I do agree that realistically only two of nine possible result permutations will do, the likelihood of reaching the playoffs now = (probability of ICT beating Motherwell) x (probability of Hamilton failing to beat Dundee).

If you want to split hairs, that would be:

(probability of ICT beating Motherwell) x (probability of Hamilton failing to beat Dundee)

+ (probability of ICT drawing with Motherwell) x (probability of Hamilton losing to Dundee by at least 5 goals)

miniscule though the second one is.

  2. The wind made things very difficult - there was one particular high ball that made me feel as though I was playing "Spot the Ball", as I could only watch where the players were looking to track its movement until it reappeared.  The pitch wasn't exactly in its prime either - among other things there was a big hollow, where at least a square foot of turf had disappeared, just over the nearside touchline.  Both these are bound to have affected performance today.  Nonetheless, Foran's competitive managerial record is better than either Rodgers or Lennon.

What was Finnie using at free kicks?  I could see him spraying something, but never once saw any marks on the ground.  I did wonder if he'd left the dressing room in a rush, and picked up his can of Lynx by mistake, instead of his shaving foam.

Was anyone paying full attention to the game while the ball boy desperately tried to recover the ball that went up the grass bank?  Judging by the crowd noises at every failure, attention was divided!

Very strong wind and interesting pitch made this a potential banana skin...oh and Gary's goal, definitely over the lineGary's Goal.jpg

I was in absolutely no doubt that it was in, but the ref's reaction seemed so slow, that I didn't think he was giving it.  Did the assistant confirm it to the ref?

Not being able to play against the parent club forms part of SPFL regulations (or it did last season).

Correct.  As per the rules at 19 January 2016:

    67. During the term of a temporary transfer the Player concerned shall not Play against the transferor Club in a: (i) League Match; (ii) Play-Off Match; (iii) League Cup Match; (iv) match in the Challenge Cup; or (v) match in the Scottish Cup.

Actually I remember 15th April 1989 very well. Was watching Inverness Thistle away at Fraserburgh. In the days before social media or mobile 'phones we knew nothing about events unfolding in Sheffield until we got back to the car and switched the radio on. We listened in horror at the developing news. What Ialso remember very clearly is that long before we got back to Inverness the 'news' through the BBC was that the tragedy was caused by late arriving fans charging and breaking open a gate. I am not being critical of the BBC journalists at the ground who were merely broadcasting 'information' from sources they ought absolutely to have been able to trust.

The fact of the matter, at long last judicially determined, is that those who ought to have been saving lives were more interested even as men, women and children for whom they had a duty of care, were lying dying on the pitch and the terraces, in saving their own reputations.

We know you too were a member of the emergency services Luarence, you have told us as much often enough, but shame on you for by inference perpetuating that lie even now....

I was at Dens Park (where John Robertson came on as a sub for Hearts).  All we got at half-time was that the Liverpool v Nottingham Forrest game had been abandoned after kick-off, and got nothing more until we were back in the car.

I remember very long time ago I had a Norton motor bike. I stopped riding it before 1963. The reason I mentioned that it helps me place the date of a Burnley v Liverpool cup game at Turf Moor. I know I went to the game on my bike. . When I got there all the tickets were sold , so I stood outside listening to the transistor radios , of the game. The Liverpool fans were discussing a tactic they had used before of f getting the police to open the gates. However they thought there was not enough of them to create the havoc needed to influence the Police, I always think of that day when this topic comes to light.

"Before 1963", so at least 27 years before Hillsborough; so longer before then, than since then.  I remember 15 April 1989 well (at least from about noon on) - do you?  Do you remember where you were when you first heard about it?  Because you don't remember twice as long ago awfully well!  That shouldn't be a surprise to any of us, so in the circumstances, maybe you should just STFU about it.  We're aware that you used to be a fireman: that doesn't mean you have to pretend to believe the lies of others who served with the emergency services.

If it was I don't think you would have got past that lot to go for a pint!  Could that have been when the Bannerman's moved down from Caithness with all that Union Jacks flying?

they stopped the hibs fans filming the game. Never had a problem elsewhere when UEFA blackout in operation. Why is it different in Inverness? Wasn't sure of their powers here but fans threatened with ejection from the ground. There were no other paid alternatives available, the ticket didn't say you couldn't film and as far as I know it's not illegal. Different if club showing it as it would affect their revenue.

    One word: pish.

That's one of my abiding memories from our title run-in when we overhauled Dundee.  It was a midweek away game, and in the days before periscope some Morton fan had fixed a phone (or such like) to point at the goal Morton were attacking, and connected it to a webpage.  Most of the game you could only really see Esson standing there, with the very occasional Morton attack.  We won 2-0, and the only way you knew we had scored was when you saw our players take up their positions for the restart. Happy days!

I remember it well!  It was obviously someone attached to the club, because the camera was on the wall at the back of the dugout, and had been there for umpteen games.  It pointed to the goal they were attacking, so changed at half time (and maybe after the toss).

I still remember watching that second half, waiting for Ryan Esson to get agitated (I'm still waiting).

That was the night I knew we were going back up.

I think we should lay off Hughes. I thought he did OK at St Johnstone with little or no support and provided umpteen knockdowns for anyone who was near or hungry enough. I did not see him after that but he deserves a chance in my book. The bile on here is certainly not going to do his confidence any good..........he must have shown something before being signed

Agreed - it was my last game, and I was on my feet a number of times saying "give him support" when he chested the ball down only to find he had three defenders to beat in the next six yards.

Don't forget the Fair City Unity. Them boys were quality.

They were definitely keeping themselves warm.

I kept myself occupied at half-time thinking up anagrams of "Fair City Unity", none of which I can publicise.
