I bet he is. Oh yeah, I bet you can you can just turn up at his house, and he'll offer cake and chat away for the afternoon. Better not be gay though, or it'll be the firing squad for you. Actually, he is supposed to be a very nice man. One of the ministers who officiated at my wedding met him whilst in Havana a few years ago. They were at a "normal" function and he turned up un-announced. spent some time with folks and then left. The minister said he was very nice, knowledgeable and avuncular. A friend of mine has a Cuban wife (who comes to TFC games with him) and she told me (and I had also heard it whilst in Cuba) that prior to Fidel's most recent illnesses he would have a habit of dropping in on events or even vacation resorts just to say hello, especially if there were "important" or "influential" people (foreigners) there. Many of the locals also refer to him as "uncle" as he does portray himself in that avuncular role. Dont get me wrong, I know you cant please everyone and there are plenty of dissidents who want to flee the country and/or the system so I am certain that there is a much more sinister and ruthless face to him too as you dont remain ruler of a country for so long without having some pretty good ways of keeping folk loyal but for me the truth is probably somewhere in the middle .... His propaganda (PR) will embellish his uncle-like qualities whilst the PR machine of the USA will show him as a despot and the truth is somewhere in the middle. His brother Raul is now in charge and despite having been army chief for many years is seen as more moderate. He has relaxed a lot of things for normal Cubans and even relations with the US seem to be thawing a little. I dont think we will see proper relations restored until Fidel dies but I think that is likely to happen within Obama's presidency so he will be keen to show the world that America is capable of healing very old and deep wounds ... not to mention get themselves in there for all the natural resources. When that happens, Cuba will be a very different and for me, i thnk, less pleasant, country. Good post Scotty. I really dont understand America at all. They try and create order in countries where there is none. They try to create democratic nations in Iraq ect. Yet Communism is banned in America. That is not Democracy. I would highly recommened Che Geuvara: A revolutionary Life to anyone. Reading it, you can really see the corruption that the US spreads throughout Southern America. Or how much they did during the mid-1900's. Its shocking when you think how great the US try to act, though reading this book, it shows how America exploited most poor countries in Southern America and how many Facist Leaders they helped into, and stay in power.

Im not disagreeing with you, as tbh, i have probably underestimated VAT. It was just the first Tax that came to my head. But is there proof of how important it is? It would be interesting to see.
-
Firstly, i never said anyone was being abused. I was merely saying i will not resort to it as i know thats what you want. Well you are asking unreasonable things of someone my age. How about you put some of your views across? Lets see them. Well, i would take VAT away completely. I would replace it with a small tax on those who earn over a certain amount, Big buisnuesses, Ect. With that i would spread it amongst poorer people who, under circumstances they cant help, do not earn very much. Those not in Work as they just cant be arsed, then that is diffrent.

Congratulations to all those who stuck by Rooney btw. They said that once he scored in a game or two, he would hit form. And i have to say that has happened!

Just because he might not like gays does not mean he is not a nice person. You listen to the Media too much. :021: Seriously, this just shows how little you know. Have you seen my reading list? Maybe you should stop this thread now, it's already pretty cringeworthy. Why dont you just stay away from it? Your Reading list? No, but i would like to hear it. Mine contains Currently i am reading Che Guevara: A revolutionary Life, Communist Manifesto and To Kill a Mockingbird. I didnt actually mean that everyone must share everything they have. I really ment that those who have nothing, should be given something. Those who have more than enough, should give. I'm sorry but I really can't fathom how you can expect people to go out to work for a living and then give a share of their earnings to someone who has sat on their ass doing nothing. Out of curiosity, what percentage of my earnings would you like me to donate to these needy people? I didnt say people that do nothing. Did i?! I said those who have nothing. I.e people that work but still dont have much. Or do those people not count. It is those people who keep our society running and whom i think should be respected the way they deserve to be. First it's people who have nothing then it's people who don't have much. You'd make a good politician. You still haven't answered my question. What percentage should I be donating to these needy people? How am i to know? Im 16, and i have ideas. Doesnt mean i spend my day trying to work all that stuff out. Im not even going to resort to personal abuse as i dont want this thread being closed. I would like to have a discussion about Politics, but a reasonable discussion.

I would prefere Labour than the Tories. They're so close politically now, it's tough to see any major differences. They both follow the same economic policies (credit crunch would have happened with both). They both support the war in Iraq (and Afghanistan). Brown is pro-EU but won't do anything about it, Cameron is anti-EU but won't do anything about it. Neither are anywhere near close to the parties of the 1980s, be that Thatcher on one hand or Foot/Kinnock on the other. Instead, the John Major/Ken Clarke government is the role model for both parties. Strangely enough, I sat next to a couple of House of Lords Tory Ladies (as in Lords and...) who were both saying that they thought the UK had a pretty good Conservative government. This was in 2006. True, though Thatcher was a Tory which settles it for me.

The Archbishop is correct. In answer to your question, since when has the Labour government got ANYTHING right. This pathetic lot should never be voted into power ever again. There is an exception though, in parts of Weggieland voting Labour is a must - it guarantees the lazy ******** their Giro cheques. I would prefere Labour than the Tories.

Right, ok then. I will get all 10 pound a week i earn from ebay as in 16, and i will gradually pay you back......Get a grip. Highest standard of literacy in the world and yet still only a developing country. I don't think a developing country can really be fairly compared to a First World country. When I was growing up, it was always 'would you rather live in Russia' if you were found to be left-wing. Then, Russia became right-wing. Food shortages, oligarchs, high crime, racism etc etc. So don't vote Tory or the UK will end up like Russia? Nonsense. You got to compare like-with-like. Is your socialism a hard-line totalitarian regime? Then, ok, compare it with the former Soviet Union. But if it's democratic socialism, then it's probably closer to most European countries, such Germany and France for most of their post-war years. One of the things that gets me is people voting for what the major parties represented 30 or so years ago. Socialists still vote Labour, despite them abandoning their left-wing principles and people still vote Tory for their sound economic sense (record unemployment, interest rates at 15 %, more business failing and bankruptcy than ever before in history, anti-EU). It's like when voters were asked what policies of Sarah Palin they liked How do you know they have the highest standard of literacy in the world? Because the communist regimes reports say so? Lol, take that with a grain of salt. And what use is literacy if the government tells you what websites and books you can and can't read? Are you saying these Communist Governments are any diffrent to some of the ***** that America spreds? This Anti-Communism is fine if you have actuall reason. Though so many people dont have the slightest clue about it. They just listen to the propaganda ***** that comes out of the media and the US.

I thought he was solid. Held the team together well.

Had a very good steak pie though it burnt the mouth off me. The prices have increased a lot which is not good!

Well it was put in the General Nonesense for a reason. If you dont care, dont post. Not hard. I just find it a bit of an odd question to put out there. I can't say I've ever looked through this forum and said "Oh, there's that Alex MacLeod again. I wonder if he's a Tory" or "Starchief's posted again, I wonder if he's into UKIP". Who really cares? I see your point, yet this is a forum is it not? A place where people put across their opinion. Well, you have an opinion in politics do you not? Wether you feel it a pile of crap, or a very important thing.

Personally, i feel that during times like the ones we are currently facing, we need a more left Government. Recessions just make the working Class despise the upper classes even more as they have so much money, yet they complain they are losing it, whilst if the Working Class complain, it falls upon deaf ears. Moving towards the left helps collectiveise the population which will reduce the impact of recessions ect. In the current capitalist climate, we will forever be in a cycle of Growth and Recession which will continue until a new system comes into place. Britain has one of the most conservative mindsets in Europe. Most here are scared of change. They fear it as they think it could impact negatively on their own little lives. They refuse to see the larger picture. They dont think the prospect of Communism for two reasons. Both ending in the result that shows Narrow-mindedness. They look at Communism and believe that because it didnt quite work in Russia, and isn't great in China, it will always be useless. Rubbish. Under a reasonable leadership, one which will not abuse the power given, then a diffrent style of Communism could work. On the other side, the British people do not like the idea of the left as it envoles sharing wealth. Too many think that they worked for their money, so why should they share it. Well they should as it is the RIGHT thing to do. Since the days of Thatcher, people have been told its ok to be greedy. Well its not. Greed is Immoral and combating Greed, small doses at a time, can cure not only Britain, but the World. The Capitalist West needs to be brought to justice.

Now I'm no fan of Manure but everybody always gets on at their fanbase's locations I'm sure the same could be said of many of the old firm fans as well. I often see their tops being worn around Sneck and wonder if the person has even been south of Perth. BUT to be honest I don't really see the problem with supporting a team from a place you haven't been born and bred in. I was brought up in Australia and the 1st game of footy I saw was Liverpool vs somebody or other. Can't remember the score, who they played or if they even won/lost. When I returned to England I saw them and thought yep they're the team for me and have supported them ever since. Thats fine and well. But even when Liverpool are doing well, most their fans still dont have the sheer arrogance of United fans. Shouting about how ***** the rest of the teams are compaired to their amazing side! Its a joke.

Im looking forward to this, as a new steak pie is like Christmas to me. I get very excited. Though they do the Pies at Celtic Park and when i had one last.....Lets just saw it wasnt the greatest. Heres hoping its just because that club is full of tight fisted arseholes though!

Good post. As much as the board dont give a ****, i do think that Mike Smith had done when he was here as he did try to do his best for us whilst working for those morons.

Just curious to see other members of this forum's political Stance? Personally, i am between Socialism and Communism, though not the Traitors that were/are Stalinism and Maoism.

Tbh, i have to agree where Tom is coming from. Most of the United fans have never even been to Manchester let alone Old Trafford yet they are always celebrating how good a team they are. Same old. Because when they were wee Bairns, United always seemed to be the best, so they support them.
