Marius Niculae has left Ukranian side Hoverla (3 goals from 14 appearances last season) to join Sanliurfaspor in Turkey's 2nd flight.

Sounds like a reaching-the-end-of-my-career move - where can I get the most money?! !

I've never heard of them - but I doubt he had either, until they showed interest.

He certainly wouldn't have heard of us before signing, but money talks! I always felt he was lazy with us, although at times you could see he had class.

A friend in Turkey has told me he has left without a game as the technical director didn't agree with his wage

  2. Celtic boss Ronny Deila on BBC Radio Scotland

    Posted at 14:41

"In the first half we had three very big chances and they had nothing. The second half was more even and we were too passive. I wanted more intensity in the final 20 minutes but Inverness played well, so congratulations to them."

A little bit of sour grapes, perhaps, then the grudging admission  which served to explain away the loss...."ICT played well

Mr Deila, this result will not happen too many times to your team this season so you could easily have not said the first 14 words and shown your class by giving our team the accolade and left it at that. On the day you failed.

Still, your job is on the line already since you are somewhat of a new and unknown quantity at  Parkhead and the Celtic hordes won't tolerate too many days out like this I'm afraid.

To be fair i don't see to much wrong in what he said.....miles better than what Lemmon used to come out with

  3. To early to say if teams are stronger or weaker than this time last season, but I'll have a go.

Celtic are obviously weaker but realistically are still streets ahead of everyone, just don't let them know that.

Aberdeen grew stronger thoughout the 2nd half of last season and if they hadn't had such an indifferent start to last season they would have been clear in second, so seems logical they are stronger.

Motherwell I don't know, they seem to lose players every season and rebuild and are still challenging for those Euro places and finishing best of the rest.

Dundee Utd are probably the same as last season, they will be hard to beat

Inverness CT I would like to think we are stronger than last season simply because our young players have more experience now.

St. Johnstone despite losing Stevie May have a lot about them including some talented young players coming through, I think they are on the rise.

Ross County I think will be a more solid unit than last season once the new players settle in, but then again it could go horribly wrong having that player turnover every season.

St. Mirren probably weaker but they always seem to do just enough to stay up

Partick Thistle unknown, starting their potentially difficult 2nd Season

Kilmarnock - weaker, doesn't seem to be much about them

We were lucky last season to have such a great start mainly because our players were fitter and match sharp right from the off compared to the opposition, then they simply just caught up on us and there was the disruption in changing managers and adapting to a new style of play. I think its safe to say non of this will happen again at least this season and we should enjoy a period of stability. Good to see we are not relying entirely on Billy McKay for goals which will make a difference. I still think we are good enough for a top six, maybe on for fourth or fifth. But beating last seasons points tally would be a more realistic target to aim for, places in the league look after themselves.

I am not sure Celtic are weaker, apart from the keeper who have they lost from last year ?

Kilie most def weaker and I think they will struggle to stay up, luckily for them County are in the league

I love you anoraks - thanks for the response Don - I would agree that if you get it right it should work anywhere. I have always backed Yogi and appreciate that it all takes time and the players are clearly behind him. I was getting frustrated that he did not appear to be tinkering with the system but he clearly is. One last comment about Billy. I think that he is at his best and the best for the team when he is here, there and everywhere, dragging central defenders out of position. He did appear to be stuck in a very limited, traditional centre forward role. Was that the case yesterday. .

We did have a few games towards end of last season where Mckay seemed to be under instruction to stay pushed forward....but think that was as much a part of the transition as anything else and done to try and encourage the midfield and wider players to do the pushing instead.

When trying to explain myself to people (as to why I've remained so positive) I use the analogy of a metal worker who, when bending cold steel, has to push it beyond the final position because when you release the tension it will naturally spring back a bit.  Yogi has been doing that with the team....pushing them to over-play the "tippy tappy" football throughout pre-season knowing that when it came crunch time and he removed the shackles the team would naturally spring back and naturally re-introduce more of what we already know they're good at to the overall mix of play......and that includes Mckay getting here, there and everywhere.

Like the metal, it'll need some final fettling and it'll pick up a few dents and dings along the way which will need worked out.....but early indications are that Yogi has successfully re-crafted the team.  Only time will tell whether or not they're worthy of some silver plating....I'm confident they are.

I thought Motherwell were the Steelmen ?

  5. wow, great comment from those that were there, very encouraging and well done to the manager and the players.

I watched the Celtic game yesterday and while United were woeful I thought Celtic we very good, closing down very quickly and lots of pace. Could it be a case of both Dellia and Yogis tactics getting through to the players at the same time, if so its going to be very interesting next weekend.

  6. Johndo, if you like watching football it might well be entertaining. Dundee parked the bus here, and only came into the game when we got overanxious about it in the last 15 minutes or so. It's not as if we didn'y create chances - Warren, Shinnie and Draper could have scored. Both teams tried to play football, and if we had got Hartley as manager there's a fair bit to indicate here that the end result would look remarkably similar to the Hughes model. I'm not sure about being bored by a passing game (even if it doesn't always come off) but I'd sure as hell rather be bored by that than leathering the ball upfield into the corners and chasing it pell mell. 4 points out of six for the first two games? Happy with that.

PS: Hamilton's result tonight puts into perspective how well we did against them on saturday - there's no mugs in this league.

Davie, remember Dundee were away from home where this type of possession football is more acceptable, I would imagine Hartley would try to entertain the fans a bit more at home, something Yogi doesn't seem to be to interested in .

  7. I wasn't at the game but spoke to a "neutral" who was there and said it was a rotten game, his word "lots of foreplay but no action" . Seems that the majority of those that were there feel the same.

Davie, I think almost everyone that goes to the game "likes football" however they also like to see goals, if you gave me the choice, 20 passes in the middle of the park and no end product or a hoof and a goal, I would take the hoof every time.

  8. It's a one year deal, but the club have an "option" on a second year.

Excuse my ignorance on contractual matters but how does that work , the club can insist on a second year even it the player doesn't want it ?

  9. Much ado about nothing and Russell did a fine job

The Suns comments just highlights what some journalists think about themselves and how the game revolves around them

  10. As he's in the last year of his contract i'd be amazed if they offered £300,000.  Try half that and the board will be seriously considering it.  Its worrying if he did leave but there appears to be lots of worrying things surrounding the team right now.

I tend to agree with that valuation, and i think the board might be tempted by it if he is in the last year of his contract,

  11. Glad Yogi has worked this out, quote from the Highland News today "It’s all about ball retention. If we have the ball there is every chance that we’ll score a goal. If our opponents have the ball the chances are they will score so when we lose the ball we get it back quickly and long may that continue. That said, we look to get it better still:amazed:

  12. Sounds like an offer has been made by Fleetwood, so this is a reality. This is too late in the window to be taken seriously and I wonder whether Billy would see a move there as a step up? I thought they were a pretty poor team a couple of weeks ago - athletic and powerful, but poor.

from our perspective, I don't think Billy suits our new style, so he'll not be scoring 25+ goals this sseason BUT this is so late in the window, we'll not get a decent replacement (loanee or purchase), which means we'll be going with an untried (but promising under 20). For that reason alone - don't sell!

There is almost another month of the transfer window left , deals are done up until the last minute on the 31st so I don't see how this is to late

Our squad is small, but it's fairly versatile.  There's good argument for a second experienced striker, but can we afford to have that and either them or Billy passing time sitting on the bench?  If we could, then I imagine we'd have brought someone in already.

What if Mckay gets injured?  What if we ever need to chase the game and get another man up-front?  What about having a two man attack Plan B?  Or are we just going to carry on playing one way regardless of whether it works or not?

Of the existing first team squad; Christie, Vincent, Doran, Foran (hopefully not out much longer) & Watkins are all...IMO...capable of doing a job at the front should the need arise.  With the possible exception of Vincent, I think the rest have all been deployed as a forward at some point under both Butcher and Yogi.  You also have young Fergie chapping at the door.

I'm not saying it's the ideal scenario, but if people are talking about Mckay being worth 6 or 7 figures, then you have to appreciate that finding experienced/comparable cover would cost something up to that amount....and then there's the wage to pay on top of that.  We quite simply don't have that kind of cash laying around.

If people aren't content with the cover we have at present, then I don't see them being content with anything additional we could afford to bring in.

I get what you are saying, but I don't think any of those are out and out strikers and likes of Christies still inexperienced , very dangerous going into the season with just one registered striker, if Billy gets injured we have big problems.

There is positive then there is just being stupid. And us finishing 4th just isn't going to happen

Who know's if Yogi gets his tactics right, we have as good a squad as most, by no means impossible

Our squad is way behind Celtic , Aberdeen , Motherwell , Dundee United and the likes in terms of quality .

I think results before Butcher left showed we were not far behind most, apart from Celtic.

  16. I am also a yes voter but I thought that Salmond was terrible last night.

It was a big chance for both sides to give some straight answers and sway the undecided voters one way or the other, I don't imagine either side did that although i agree the No camp will have been happier with last night.
