Craig Brewster - Press Release

Teaser Paragraph:
Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC have this afternoon reluctantly accepted the resignation of manager Craig Brewster and assistant manager Malky Thomson.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC have this afternoon reluctantly accepted the resignation of manager Craig Brewster and assistant manager Malky Thomson. This follows their rejection this morning of a substantially improved contract offer by the club which they had reflected on overnight.
Dundee United today amended their position in relation to compensation for the remaining three years of Mr Brewster's contract. This led to a meeting in the Central Belt at lunchtime between ICT chairman David Sutherland, director of football Graeme Bennett and Dundee United chairman Eddie Thomson.
As a result of those discussions, the clubs have reached full agreement on compensation following a significantly enhanced offer from United.
Chairman David Sutherland said:"To his credit, Craig Brewster had assured Caley Thistle he would not leave without a compensation agreement. But he reiterated his wish, and that of his assistant, to join United and Caley Thistle could not, in the end, stand in his way.
"But we can assure our supporters we fought tooth and nail to try to keep him.
"We place on record our sincere apprecation of the outstanding contribution Mr Brewster and Mr Thomson have made over the past 14 months since their appointment. Caley Thistle gave Craig Brewster his opportunity and we have proved good for one another. He has shown integrity and understanding over the past few days and while we made every effort to retain his services, we understand the special allure of Tannadice to him."
Director of football Graeme Bennett said:"First team coaches Charlie Christie and John Docherty will be in charge against Livingston on Saturday and for the Scottish Cup replay at Ayr United on Monday. The board will urgently address the issue of identifying a new manager."

Craig Brewster Talks to Dundee Utd

Teaser Paragraph:
{mosimage}Caley Thistle have issued the following official press release regarding the approach by Dundee United to appoint Craig Brewster as their new manager.

Craig Brewster will remain as Caley Thistle manager until after Monday's Scottish Cup replay at Ayr United.
Brewster said today:”I’ve had talks with United but I’m still in charge at Inverness and will not leave before the games with Livingston and then Ayr. That would not be fair. “ I’ve enjoyed my time here and I’m still in discussions with Caley Thistle.”
Inverness director of football Graeme Bennett said:”With our permission, Craig has spoken to United and we are continuing in dialogue with Craig to try to persuade him to stay. If he is adamant he does wish to go then we’re mindful to grant him his release though only on the basis of satisfactory compensation being agreed.
“We’ve an excellent track record of selecting and developing young managers and if there is a vacancy then we would anticipate considerable interest in the position. But we have not yet reached the stage of there being a vacancy.”

Craig Brewster - Manager of The Month

Teaser Paragraph:
{mosimage}ICT Manager Craig Brewster receives the Bank of Scotland Manager of the Month award on the same day announcements are made that he is to hold talks regarding a move to SPL Rivals Dundee Utd. Caley Thistle fans should be celebrating Brewster's award today of the 'manager of the month' award for December. It was awarded for a winning month that saw Motherwell and Hibs beaten and both Celtic and Hearts held to draws. However, for fans it seems like an hollow award as once again the club face losing a manager but this time to a side currently 7 points behind them in the SPL

A well-known football team bus driver who covered over a million miles in 30-plus years of service died on January 10th.Tony Fraser, of Tore, Easter Ross, died in the Highland Hospice,Inverness, after a long illness. He was 62.
Tony drove the Caley Thistle team bus since the club arrived on the national scene 11 years ago and the club will have a minute's silence in his memory before Saturday's SPL game with Livingston at Inverness.

Inverness CT 1-1 Ayr United - Scottish Cup

Rory McAllister got his first senior goal for the club in this Scottish Cup match against Ayr United. Unfortunately for Caley Thistle, Gareth Wardlaw equalised only a minute later and a replay will be required in 10 days time.
Caley Thistle have had more than their share of cup glory but this time it was Ayr who were the over-performing underdogs - no cup scalp but close.

Saturday 7th January 2006  Tulloch Caledonian Stadium  INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC  1 (McAllister 52) Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, McCaffrey, Golabek, Wilson, Duncan, Fox (Hart 77), Morgan, McAllister, Wyness (Dargo 75)
Subs - Keogh, Proctor & Fraser
AYR UNITED FC  1 (Wardlaw 53) Team: McGeown, McKinstry, Ramsay, McLaughlin, Baillie, Casey, Hyslop (Reid 76), Robertson, Vareille (Strain 87), Wardlaw (Cashmore 81), Conway
Subs - Templeton & Phillips
Referee  K Toner  Attendance  2126  Man of the Match  Ross Tokely (ICT)
Craig Brewster's 50th game in charge did not quite go according to plan. He made five changes to rotate the squad but the new formation never really got to grips with the second division side.
Ayr had two players suspended and therefore had to make changes themselves. Despite this they played well and their game plan worked - defend in depth and attack on the break.
Rory McAllister scored his first senior goal but it was cancelled out within a minute and in the end Ayr more than deserved a draw.
Liam Fox was first to go for goal in four minutes when his 18 yard dipping volley was tipped over by Ayr 'keeper Mark McGeown. Ayr's lively Paul Hyslop sent a dangerous cross over from the right in 11 minutes and it reached Craig Conway at the back post via the boot of Darren Dods - Conway could only hit wide but it was a chance gone.
Mark Brown saved a curling Conway shot two minutes later then a Rory McAllister drive was deflected and held by McGeown. Barry Wilson ran clear down the right in 20 minutes with McAllister in support - Wilson chose to pass inside to McAllister but by this time defender James McKinstry had raced back to intercept.
Wilson hit over the bar in 35 minutes then a goalmouth scramble led to shots from Dennis Wyness and McAllister being blocked.
Half Time: 1-1
Ayr came out in the second half with confidence and in 49 minutes a Hyslop run and shot was beaten out by Brown. Caley Thistle finally carved out an opening goal in 52 minutes. Ross Tokely crossed from the right and it fell for Wyness a yard out - he only had to tap in but somehow he scooped it onto the bar. First to react was Rory McAllister and he chipped into the net from eight yards.
The lead lasted just a minute. Virtually from the kick-off Gareth Wardlaw raced through the centre and hammered a low ball past Mark Brown from 18 yards. The small but vocal Ayr support raised the roof in the south stand and the home fans were stunned. After that it could have gone either way.
A low hard shot from Liam Fox was blocked in 69 minutes then Stuart McCaffrey's follow-up header was held high by McGeown. The last period was hectic. Brown saved from Andy Reid with 12 minutes left then Jonathan Baillie and Jerome Veraille both hit over the bar.
Stuart Golabek had a golden chance to take the tie with five minutes left. Wilson crossed low from the left, Craig Dargo dummied and Golabek hit past the post from a good position six yards out.
An Ayr fan celebrated prematurely with three minutes left - a solo pitch invasion and a half-streak. It was clearly too cold for the real thing but, with shorts left on, he was led away by two policemen.
There were five added minutes and the home side pushed forward. Nothing came off and Ayr managed to take play into the Caley Thistle half for the last couple of minutes - they held the ball in the bottom left corner and this was enough to see out most of the remaining time. The last kick of the ball was a Golabek lob into the Ayr box which McGeown took easily.
Replay required 1-1
It is now down to Ayr on the 17th for a tricky replay.

Honoured

Teaser Paragraph:
Caley Thistle may have won a few honours on the park since formation in 1994 but club officials are certainly keeping pace with them and racking up a few honours of their own.
Caley Thistle may have won a few honours on the park since formation in 1994 but club officials are certainly keeping pace with them and racking up a few honours of their own.The latest honours for the club come in the form of an MBE for former chairman and current board member Ken Mackie and a CBE for current chairman David Sutherland in the New Years Honours list.
Ken was awarded the MBE for his services to the Inverness community. Not only was he the chairman who guided Caley Thistle through the minefield of gaining entry to the SPL but is also chairman of Inverness, Nairn and Badenoch and Strathspey Enterprise and the former chief executive of the city's Raigmore Hospital.
David Sutherland as we all know is a two-time chairman of Caley Thistle and as well as being the man that many regard as having turned around the club a few years ago when debts were crippling it. He returned to the top job recently after his company, Tulloch managed to complete the building of two stands at the Caledonian Stadium in an amazing period of only 47 working days to bring SPL football to the city.
Mr Sutherland is not being rewarded for that amazing feat by the Queen although our supporters will be eternally grateful for it, but instead he is being rewarded for his services to both business and charity. Tulloch can boast a long list of charities that have benefited from their generosity and David was instrumental in helping achieve this. In 1994 he founded the Highland Homeless at Christmas trust which raised private sector funding to launch and operate the first night shelter north of Aberdeen and he has long been known for connections to charities such as MacMillan Cancer Care, Highland Hospice, Princess Royal Trust for Carers and the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust. Tulloch also formed a charitable trust in 2000 that diverts a portion of their annual profits to selected charities. This trust has donated more than £600,000 since formation.
David and Ken join two other Caley Thistle officials who have previously been rewarded for their contribution to society. In 1997 our security chief, John Sutherland was awarded an MBE for his services in the field of anti-terrorism and honorary life president John (Jock) McDonald received an OBE in 2000 for his services to the whisky industry.
Well done to all concerned.

Aberdeen 0-0 Inverness CT - SPL

A no-score draw in this match at Pittodrie leaves both teams rueing a stack of missed chances. With Craig Dargo missing out due to a head injury sustained in the boxing day game against Hibs, Rory McAllister had a chance to stake his claim for a starting place.

Saturday 31st December 2005  Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen  ABERDEEN FC  0 Team: Langfield, McNaughton, Anderson, Smith, Nicholson, Lovell (Crawford 74), Clark, Dempsey (Foster 77), Stewart, Byrne, Muirhead (Mackie 46)
Subs - Winter, MacAulay & Esson
INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THSITLE FC  0 Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings, Wilson, Duncan, Black, McBain, McAllister (Wyness 80), Brewster,
Subs - Golabek, McCaffrey, Bayne, Proctor, Fox & Fraser
Referee  M McCurry  Attendance  12266  Man of the Match  Info Not Provided
December’s busy programme finished with an unbeaten run and 9 points from 5 games. This result was a repeat of last year’s equivalent fixture and, as in 2004, it was an exciting end-to-end game.
Craig Dargo dropped out of the Caley Thistle line-up following his concussion against Hibs and a surprise replacement was Rory McAllister who made his first SPL start. Aberdeen had several injured absentees including midfielder Scott Severin who had just signed a three-year contract extension.
ICT had an excellent first half but Aberdeen came back strongly after the break and overall had the best chances. At the final whistle a draw was about right.
Russell Anderson had to be sharp in the second minute to head clear a deep Barry Wilson cross from the right then in nine minutes McAllister hit the side netting.
Ian Black and Wilson set up a chance for Craig Brewster in 11 minutes – Wilson’s cross from the right reached Brewster off the head of McAllister but his angled shot was too high.
The best chance of the half fell to Aberdeen’s John Stewart in 34 minutes. He broke through the defence and was well placed left of centre – he chose to shoot early but hit low and wide. Two minutes later Scott Muirhead was well placed in the box but just failed to connect with a cross from the right. Just before the interval Ross Tokely sent a cross from the right and McAllister touched it for Brewster – the player/manager sent a bouncing shot wide but it was close and many fans thought it was in.
Half Time: 0-0
Former ICT player Darren Mackie came on for Aberdeen in the second half and they improved greatly. Caley Thistle held out but the Dons put them to the test on several occasions. Seconds into the half Mark Brown made his first real save when he dealt comfortably with a Jamie Smith angled shot from the left. In 52 minutes Jamie Langfield raced out of goal as McAllister chased a through ball – the ‘keeper was there first and cleared from just outside his area.
A Smith free kick in 54 minutes was deflected for a corner then Chris Clark beat four men in 63 minutes before Brown pushed away his angled shot. A disputed corner in 69 minutes led to Brown saving well from a Stewart header.
Barry Nicholson broke through the middle in 74 minutes and really should have done better with only Brown to beat – the keeper narrowed the angle and Nicholson hit wide of the post.
Caley Thistle’s best second half effort came from substitute Dennis Wyness in 84 minutes. A Brewster pass allowed Wyness to close in on goal from the right but his angled shot was well saved by Langfield.
Full Time: 0-0
Both sides did have late flurries but nothing came off. Motherwell beat Livingston and moved above ICT so the year ended in seventh place.
