With his contract up next season it's imperative to get the lad signed up for as long as possible before one of the lesser SPL clubs snap him up for a song . Thoughts ?

To get back on thread, I believe you are correct but priority should go to tying up players who's contracts are out in the summer and then Rooney's should without doubt be looked at as soon as possible after that.

I see this thread got off to a good start...

I would like to see Rooney getting a new contract but at the moment we have to get the rest of the team signed up for a couple years with the exception of a few (McBain, Eagle, Djebi-Zadi) and Golly on a 1 year deal. I'm scared of losing everyone in the summer and being back to square one. If we don't go up this season then i think we won't improve next season unless those players are kept here.
