I hope you both had an enjoyable day together with the 999,998 who accompanied you.

Thank you!  I think we considerably swelled the numbers - we really must get onto our diets.

We didn't make it to Parliament Square though.  If you know London, we came out of the Tube at Marble Arch (north end of Park Lane) at 12:30pm.  The start of the march was at Hyde Park Corner, at the south end of Park Lane, but to minimise congestion there the organisers had asked everyone to come from the north end.

So we joined the back of the march a few hundred yards down Park Lane.  The march started at 1pm - but it was 3pm before we got out of Park Lane!  Then along about 2/3 of Piccadilly, right into St James's, and then left onto Pall Mall towards Trafalgar Square.  Very, very slow, all the way.  We used local knowledge and hit the sidestreets nearer Trafalgar Square, but it was still 4:30 before we got there. Long after all the speeches, and lots of folk were going home.  We were beginning to feel sore after four hours of either standing or shuffling, so we decided not to go off down Whitehall to Parliament Square.  Though I saw on the 6pm news that people were still arriving there at that time.

All ages and types of people on the March.  Everyone extremely good-natured and very friendly.  I'd even call it fun.

As you say, I am sure that Treeza will totally ignore it, but you have to do what you have to do.

I'll put some pictures up in a few minutes - I have some in both camera and phone.

  2. I'm not trying to upset you, Kingmills, but I will mention that the Guardian's report said that Graeme Shinnie was at fault for the first two goals.  I didn't read the rest of it...

Massive game now against San Marino :rotflmao:

  3. What's an Outlook account?  ?

When I replaced the motherboard, I also had to replace the CPU (different socket), memory and graphics card (no longer supported by a current mobo).

Windows decided it needed to be revalidated, and the Microsoft person whom I spoke to said that I had moved Windows to a new machine.

I persuaded her otherwise. But anything that would avoid that situation would be very welcome.

  4. Mrs Snorbens and I have just agreed that we are taking to the streets on the People's Vote March in London on Saturday.

First time we have ever done anything like that.   We are so f***ing mad with what is going on that taking to the streets is the only option.

    no problem

I would also recommend buying a n external HD

Amen to this.   All of my data is stored on at least two external drives.  So I have weathered a motherboard failure and a C drive (an SSD) failure with no loss of data. Only the hassle of reinstalling Windows and applications - and even that I could have avoided by using an imaging/backup tool.

The IT correspondent on the Guardian newspaper in the UK has coined a law which is that information doesn't exist unless it is in three different physical locations.

your money is being frittered away by board members intent on feathering the nests of themselves and their family members

I think that you are getting very close to making defamatory accusations, and I am surprised that the mods haven't said anything.

By all means, criticise the Board, but if you can't prove it, don't say it.

When there are issues with public services do you go running to the government or local authority with solutions

Yes, indeed, I have in the past made suggestions on how services could be improved.  It's often the person experiencing the problem who has the best ideas for solving it.

In my working life, in IT, if I had to report to a problem to a boss, I always made sure that I had one or two suggestions for dealing with that problem.  And I made sure that people reporting to me understood that I expected that from them.

Just saying "it's not my job" helps no one.

.... so do we have any other ideas or blue sky thinking or strategies

So what are your ideas, then?

It's easy to criticise - very difficult to see the way forward.  I am sure that the Board will welcome all credible suggestions.

... the man at the top doesn't seem to want to engage with the very people who pay his wages.

Does he get any wages?  The accounts give the number of employees at the club "including directors who are not remunerated".

I don't know whether that means that no director is remunerated, or that some are and some aren't.  (If the former, there should have been a comma after "directors". :teacher: )

Don’t see how we can finance the installation without a gift of an interest free loan

Or a grant from the local authority.  If a condition was that the pitch had to be made available to the community.... well, haven't we all been saying that the club should have more involvement in the community?

Might help persuade some of that community to come and watch ICT matches!

  11. My wife's family are Stenhousemuir supporters, and have often said to me how the club has benefited from their artificial pitch.  I understand it's 3G, not 4G, whatever that means.  (Does it mean that it's slower? )

I have just found this 6-page report on the FIFA website - https://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/pitchequip/cs_stenhousemuir_37445.pdf

It includes costs, but note that it must be 10 or more years old.   Stenny is a community-owned club, and they received a £250,000 grant from the local authority, on condition that the pitch was made available for use by the community.

I'm afraid that I don't know what the Board's rules would say about your first question.

    !!!!!

If the Trust has 10% of the votes, then someone on the Trust really ought to be familiar with the rules or constitution of the club, and with the regulations governing private limited companies (which is what the club is).

Pfft. Don't bother emailing them. They never respond.

If you look back to page 2 of this thread, you'll see that they responded to me within minutes when I asked about the semi-final dates.

That was before 09:00, so maybe the trick is to get them before they become busy.

It's UEFA Article 48 that prevents it, so outwith the powers of the SFA or the SPFL; even if they cleared all other games.

    https://www.uefa.com/insideuefa/about-uefa/news/newsid=19817.html

That doesn't prevent it.  It merely lists the blocked hours that have been chosen by national FAs.

The regulation starts "Each member association may decide on two and a half hours on a Saturday or a Sunday during which any Transmission of football may be prohibited within the territory of the relevant member association."

My reading of that is that it's up to each national FA to decide IF it wants to have blocked hours, and then, if they do, to decide what they are.

Having said all that, I wasn't aware how deeply embedded the prohibition is, so thank you to everyone for filling in a gap in my knowledge.

Only being done to try avoid further criticism form fans

The Daily Record report that was referenced said that he had been invited, presumably by the SFA, to a meeting with all parties, to discuss arrangements for the semi.

He wasn't going on a crusade to change the date or time.  He wasn't "only [doing it] to try to avoid further criticism".

But he's right to take the opportunity to complain about it.

As for times, the game has to be outwith the 3pm scheduled games ...

All that needs to happen is for the SFA and SPFL to agree, in advance, to clear a weekend for the semi-finals.   As is done for internationals.

  17. I wondered if it was the Seaforths. One or two of them had tattoos suggestive of the Seaforths' stag, but I couldn't quite convince myself.

Time frame interesting too, because it didn't look pre-WW2.

    Now playing: "Caber Feidh"  ?

  18. IBM, what makes you think that could be Citadel?  Do you have some other information about the photo?

I have to say that to me they look big, sleek, well-fed, well-groomed - to me they just don't look like a Highland team from, at the latest, the mid 1930s.

Why would Citadel have had a strip with "A" on it?

If this was taken in Inverness, I'd hazard a guess that this is some professional team - maybe an "A" team, possibly not Scottish or even British - up to play an exhibition.  Not sure if these things happened in Citadel's time.

    Er….? Who is David Dowling?

Boss (I assume he's still there) of this company - https://www.cairngormgroup.co.uk/ - which was plain old Cairngorm Windows when I were a lad.  He rescued Clach from oblivion many years ago.

I don't know when you left Sneck, but his father Alistair - always known as Allie - was well-known for being a world class pipe band drummer and coach, and an expert on roses, as well as running the company.

Have it assessed by a truly professional shop with an expert who really knows what he is talking about and get a quote. Then bargain !!!!!! :ponder:

Get a quote from David Dowling.

He has a track record of helping penniless football clubs.

This club does not belong to one person nor to one clique! You'd think that after 25 years the club would by now have found a settled method of being run in a sensible, mature way!

Aye right, every other football club is sensible and stable ?
