  1. The scary thing is that Green seems to think the debts of OldCo should be written off and should not be the responsibility of NewCo.

Somebody has to pay these debts, and if it's not Rangers (in whichever guise), it's probably all the other clubs, and you and me!

He also seems to think the fans have no right to influence the way their club's upper management vote. Does he not realise that without the fans, there would be no point in the football club?

  2. Perhaps it is prudence, as Nolln Team says and maybe we are in fact leading the way in the much-needed financial rationalisation of Scottish football.

If this is the case we will find we are financially disadvantaged this season, on the park, but if we can avoid relegation, this would stand us in good stead for future seasons as other teams are forced into austerity.

In any case, welcome to Inverness all you journeymen, mercenaries and prostitutes - I do hope the coming season is successful for all of you, and indeed for all of us.

  3. Well here we go again. Another pre-season, another bunch of strangers in ICT shirts and quite frankly, I don't like the way it's going.

Last season we had the same scenario, but we put it down to much-needed changes, necessary for SPL progress, and sorta hoped that these guys would form the nucleus of Terry Butcher's new ICT and hang around for a few seasons.

But they've gone now and our manager has trawled the English lower leagues for another bunch of journeyman, mercenaries, prostitutes or whatever you want to call them. Will they be any good? - I certainly hope so, but I doubt it.

And will the same thing happen next season, and the one after?

And what is the point of Inverness being represented at football by a team made up largely of players from another country?

The thing is, if there are not enough players from the Highlands, of sufficient quality to play in the SPL, then Inverness really doesn't deserve to have an SPL team. And if they're all playing for Ross County, perhaps we're supporting the wrong team!

  4. Mr Beattie in the IRA used to refer to the post of "Hay's Lemonade Lorry Driver's Mate" as the ultimate career non-achievement!

I remember these lorries used to come rattling into various residential areas with 2 or 3 very cheerful young men in the cab, all smoking and shouting abuse at us kids as they drove past.

  5. What I would wish to stress is that I would prefer to watch a team with a sprinkling of yoof in it, preferably local yoof, mixed in with the journeymen and the experience - that is why I would have felt that Esson, Foran AND Tokely were essentials to keep on board. We could have / should have blooded quite a few last season instead of all the dodgy loanees. In my book the likes of Morrison, Ross and Sutherland (centre feckin forward) should be "shoe-ins" for next season and with the three aforementioned, the ones on contracts or resigning we have the core squad and then we look at where the deficits are - centre half, holding midfielder and goalscorer and then utilise the journeyman and loanee market.

What an excellent post! Don't always agree with you IHE but completely with you there.

  6. OK IHE, you got me.

Although the kettle - pot analogy was blindingly obvious, I was actually doing one o them psychological experiments. The idea was I would pick a quote and laugh at it, and then record the reaction. Hell, the last time I did it, I was accused of calling someone a pr!ck - not something I would ever do.

But hey, that's research, and we're all a lot wiser for it!

  7. Admittedly I enjoyed jumping on the "we hate County" bandwagon, even although I quite liked County in the Highland League days.

So I acknowledge that they won the first division hands down - nobody came close to them and they deserve to go up.

Having said that, I sorta share the sentiments of Caley in the post above.

  8. ...some people just aren't willing and/or able to admit when they screw up, choosing instead to blame others and continue in the belief that any further comment or questioning by others is somehow pointless or insignificant...que sera.

  9. OK - I'll go along with this.

Terry alternates between good seasons and bad - this one has not been good.

The presence of County will inspire us to better things.

The team will regroup over the summer, learning from mistakes.

Top six for me, and a cup final.

Hell, it's just another meaningless poll!

  10. Clubs should be self sufficient. However, if we as fans are asking (demanding) the club make decisions that would impact that in the short term, then should we not also be willing to assist with the transition?

You can't answer no to that question and then threaten to boycott (as others have done elsewhere) if the club choose to try and protect the income by making a decision we do not like.

If the club was willing to be swayed by the demands of the fans, then whoever makes the demands should indeed be willing to assist.

However, I doubt if the club would succumb to such demands even with a cast-iron guarantee of assistance.

The threat of a boycott in a town as apathetic as Inverness would hardly be crippling.

Frankly, I just can't see it happening.

  11. Absolutely not.

Football, as a business should be able to sustain itself without additional handouts. If a team is losing money, then the budget/finances need looking at.

Football, as a form of entertainment is very poor value for money, or at least it has been at TCS this season, and I would not be willing to pay more than I already do.

Having said that, if you'd asked me 5 or 6 years ago I'd have been all for it - I even suggested something like that on this forum a few years back!

    Things change.
