  1. Perhaps if the club had a different name at the very beginning, e.g Highland, it may have attracted a wider support - who knows? Changing it now certainly would not improve the support - it may even be detrimental if the new name is silly enough.

Having said that though, I'd be quite keen on changing the name to Inverness Caledonian!

  2. We seem to have a lot in common with Newcastle United, but I vaguely remember talk a few years ago about some sort of arrangement between Newcastle and the hated Elgin City! This was based on the rather flimsy common ground that both teams wore vertical black and white stripes. Wonder what happened to that arrangement.

Aye, Newcastle United - great club, great support, but for years they've suffered from brigands, charlatans and chancers at the highest level and never seem to get the leadership they deserve - I'm talking about the Board here, not the team management.

Yes, we have got a lot in common!

  3. TB's riding on a wave of popularity at the moment after the success of the 1st Division campaign and I'd be really surprised if this is a genuine call for his resignation. More a heat of the moment thing.

If we were well into the second half of the campaign and propping up the rest of the table, then maybe.

But I believe, by the team choice, that he had perhaps written off this game as relatively unimportant and had decided to divert our limited resources to ensuring SPL survival. And although I don't like 6 goal drubbings, I'm inclined to agree.

Don't judge him on diddy cup games - judge him on our league position at the end of the season.

  5. What about a 20 team top division like we used to have and lump the rest into a second division of 24. That would be 38 games a season for the top division and losses from less games against the Old Firm would be partially offset by the possibility of more derby games.

In our case there would be a half-decent chance of Ross County being in the same division so we'd have a couple of derby games in a season.

There would have to be an opportunity for ambitious non-league teams to enter as well, at the expense of waste-of-spaces like Elgin City so we'd need to have promotion to and relegation from the second division annually.

  6. A bit over-elaborate and in my opinion not a patch on Brian Thompson's sheep-sha**ing celebration of the umpteenth goal in a cup-tie in response to cheeky taunts from Annan Athletic supporters.

    Not bad though. :_thumbup:

  7. Spot-on Scarlet, and I reckon the opening-day fixture is the best chance we'll have to beat Celtic - many of their players will have only just met and not fully gelled as a team.

And although Lennon is indeed more intelligent than yer average footballer, and will i think become a very good manager, he's still a cheatin', diving, ginger wee nyaff!

  8. My warning was of course light-hearted but when you mention these athletes of very high body mass index, I wonder if these heavyweights doing the rounds of Highland Games at this time of year fit into this category - after all some of them are pretty heavy for their relative height, and isn't muscle heavier than fat? Shot-putters too, as an example.

  9. Each player runs onto the pitch holding a child by the hand - what's that all about?

Is it a way of mass-producing match mascots or is it supposed to signify something?

    Any ideas?

  10. Perhaps they'll name the North Stand after him - the "Richie Hart stand" - got a nice ring to it!

(In honour of the number of times he's blootered the ball into the upper rows of it)

  11. Much as I hate the thought of Ross County achieving something that we haven't yet, I have to admit that it would be nice if a Highland team won the cup despite the fact we would never hear the last of it.

However, if England won the World Cup we'd never hear the last of it cubed.

Therefore, for me, England winning the World Cup is the worser of the two.

  12. . . . . . but one thing on the roads which annoys me are charity drives between Land's End and John O' Groats. I don't mind the folk walking as they keep clear of the road and don't cause an obstruction, they are also accomplishing a feat of physical endurance but I have been stuck behind four or five tractors, six quad bikes and I am sure there has been a Sinclair C5 too and they all have their support vehicles none of which want to do more than about 20 miles per hour. . . . .

I remember seeing someone being interviewed on TV after doing one of these charity things from Lands End to John o' Groats involving tractors - he said a lot of drivers had shown their support by blowing their horns as they passed!

I rather think he misinterpreted the message. :(

  13. Of course they will draw attention from bigger clubs, and the more success they have with us, the more likely they are to be offered a contract by a bigger team.

I'm afraid that's the way it is - we're just a wee team and can't compete financially with certain others.

It is inevitable that we will only keep a successful manager for a limited time - remember Pele, Robertson, even Brewster - all poached by bigger teams.

Of course they may decide they like life in Inverness so much that they won't want to leave, but I'm afraid that's unlikely.
