  1. Billy Urquhart was in the 5th Company. . . . . I'm sure there will be many who remember Scoobies, legendary Captain of the 5th Company.

At the risk of doing this one to death - one piece of trivia I overlooked here was that Scoobies became Billy Urquhart's father-in-law.

  2. In an ideal world I think Brewster may have turned it around.

But football fans are a fickle lot and once the angry mob was formed he had no chance.

Having probably now lost the respect of the majority of the team's support, thanks mainly to the angry mob, he has to leave because, barring miracles, he can never regain that respect.

If we lose our next 2 games - both games we should be expected to win - the board would be very foolish to let him continue.

  3. One or two spring to mind.

There was Jed Ludd in the early 70's who were dire and thankfully didn't last.

The Kicks, which became The Kut - they were going for years and as I recall played in the Marquee in London once or twice - wouldn't be surprised if they're still going. A Police soundalike, but with a lot of original material.

NiteHox from the 80's - very accomplished cover band with one or 2 songs of their own.

There were a few in the late 70's/early 80's generally stemming from the Punk thing - The Hormones, As The Crow Flies, No Reaction, Vizion, none of which came to much but I remember seeing As The Crow Flies and Vizion, both of which impressed me greatly. And I remember the Kettle Brothers too - a synth and drum machine duo as I recall, with an old kettle placed on a desk between them. Pretty pish, or maybe I shouild say, not really my scene!

Axis was a brilliant Heavy Metal band from Inverness, featuring the excellent Andy Murray, who later joined Wolfstone.

Would anyone on this forum admit to playing in any of these bands? Or maybe someone's got a grandad who played for one of them . . . . . :rotflmao:

  4. Bit of a non-story here, but hey, let's blame Brewster anyway!

As far as the 'past tense' thing (in the initial post) goes, well anyone talking about their career to date would do so in the past tense because - um - it's in the past!

But let's face it - rumours about Blackie's imminent departure have been doing the rounds for the last 3 years at least, so lets keep these pointless posts coming! :rotflmao:

  5. Where, a year ago I'd have made the effort to go through to Sneck for a home game, now I wouldn't.

If I happened to be in the area and there was a game on, I'd probably go, as I have done twice this season (and witnessed a HOME WIN!!!).

I even went to see them at Tynecastle because I happened to be in Edinburgh that weekend.

Don't really have a firm opinion on who is chiefly responsible for our current poor form, but I'm beginning to come round to the mindset of the angry mob. It's just that I get so pssed off, so angry at seeing another toothless display, and it's not something I wish to see again for now.

New manager or new players or more encouraging match reports may well draw me back. But there's no boycott or anything - just nothing to draw me to the game at the moment.

  6. Miss McCuish, a teacher at Dalneigh lived with her sister Miss McCuish on Fairfield Road - near that fellow Wright. She then became Mrs Gillanders and moved out.

Incidentally, does anyone remember hanging around outside a house (on Fairfield Road) owned by a missionary - can't remember her name - who had rescued a Chinese woman and took her back to live in Inverness. Don't know the full story, or what she'd been rescued from, but back then it was such a novelty to see Oriental people in Sneck that kids would hang around outside "the Chinese House" hoping to catch a glimpse of her. One time she came out and spoke to us, very pleasantly, in understandable but accented English - we were fair chuffed about that. The house had a Chinese name as I recall.

  7. Seem to remember there was a hooruva lot of fairly senior teachers living on Fairfield Road at one time - a disproportionate number, some might say.

Only names I can remember are Angus MacPhee (High School) and Mr Wright (IRA - biology) although I know the rector of the High School lived there and a few head teachers from primary schools.

    Anyone remember any more names?

  8. Quote: "consigning us to another year in the spl. Oh the humiliation!" from my previous post.

Of course I meant another year in the FIRST DIVISION, although now that I think about it, we were nowhere near promotion that year anyway. My mistake.

(Admin - Can "stickys" no' be editted? Or am I doing it wrong?)

  9. Best has got to be "Ring out Solstice Bells" by Jethro Tull, closely followed by Pogues and KM - Fairytale Of New Yoik and perhaps John Lennon and Yoko - Happy Xmas War is Over.

Worst - too many to mention but there's one called Santa Baby which really gets up my chuff - dunno who sang it though.

  10. Is he leaving? Oh well - I've been away so I didn't know that.

Probably one of the ICT "greats" - great vision, some wonderful runs down the wing and I believe very popular with other team members. Some great goals too - I especially remember that cracker against Dunfermline in our first true "home" spl game.

And always, always 100% loyal to the club . . . . hang on - did he no' desert us for the hated Livingston scum because the money was better, and scored that penalty against us which sealed their promotion at OUR stadium, consigning us to another year in the spl. Oh the humiliation!

Still, like Brewster he came back and all was forgiven . . . . . :rotflmao:

  11. 6-3: are you sure?

I thought it was 6-1 and I didn't think Urquhart scored, though he was probably MoM. I'll stand corrected though . . .

I remember being in either the Heathmount or Corriegarth after the game and word came through that he'd signed for Rangers. I'm sure he came in later on that evening.

  12. Sometimes a result like that galvanises a team - it's happened to us before.

It's not the first time Rangers have scored 5 goals against a fellow SPL team (didn't they do it to Celtic not so long ago?) and it certainly won't be the last.

Some of the posts in this thread are awfully theatrical. Perhaps if we could maintain a sense of perspective . . .

  13. There is no crisis - that word comes too easily these days.

For ten years or so, ICT supporters were used to seeing their team winning most of the time. Eventually we joined the country's elite league and didn't win nearly so often. Many supporters found this hard to take and stopped going to games.

Meanwhile a new generation of supporters with less demanding expectations is starting to come through the turnstiles. Give it 3 or 4 years and attendances will start to increase again, if we're still in the SPL.

    Simple really! :rotflmao:

By the way, Scarlet, did you get the PM I sent you last month? My profile thingy says you never read it! (not that you would've missed much)

  14. Inverness is not big on the religious divide so you shouldn't have any problems there if that's your concern.

I'd say that many supporters of Scottish teams may have an affinity with one of the old firm as well and as you've seen in the Celtic ticket thread, in some cases it's not far below the surface.

But I'll stick my neck out and say that generally in Inverness it's not an issue.

  15. I had one of them sat beside me - thoroughly decent guy as it turned out.

From Inverness but having associated himself with Celtic when Caley and Thistle were in the HL, he said he couldn't just switch over like that. Still went to all the ICT home games so I suppose, financially, he was an ICT supporter.

Sat on his hands, admirably, when Celtic scored and even applauded when we scored.

When you think of it, it's a bit ridiculous that when we put on our "football fan" mantle we become caged animals, likely to rip each other apart if not properly segregated, then later in the week we'll maybe meet up with the same people after work and have a drink.

Seems strange we can't all sit together.
