Looking at the league as it stands now I recall the talk by several that Butcher's new team would soon be ahead of us in the league. As it is they are now 19 points behind us. We have moved on and they have really gone backwards. Hard to bear I guess ;-)

Jock - found an earlier clipping on player by player reviews from the 1950s and it stated the following for George Pyke: George Pyke (Centre Forward) What a man! Misses two or three snips and is torn to shreds by the goal loving fans. Then scores two or three "impossible" goals and all is forgiven. A worker indefatigable and a mixer that has mixed manys a defence into making blunders it would not normally do. In this way turns defeat into victory when all seems lost. Strong, robust and a "giver and a taker" with a flashing smile or a growl like a wounded bear. A personality for who Thistle have been long thankful. Not sure about some of the reporting language of the day but sounds like the kind of player we could do with at TCS next season.... ;-)

Jock - George Pyke is shown in the 1950s team photo on page 1 of this thread. Attached below is a photo of George and Alan Sinclair from a paper cutting from the early 1960s as well as the accompanying article. Article states ex-Arsenal and Thistle. Like several before (and after) him it appears he migrated from the playing staff to the coaching staff at Kingsmills Park.

Lets be honest the current bun is no different from the mix we have found ourselves in for the last couple of seasons under the old guard. For better or worse so the story goes....you never know this time there may be a different ending....

An article on Murd Urquhart the Inverness Thistle stalwart who passed away recently at the age of 80. Will always be fondly remembered for his passion for Inverness Thistle and later ICT....
