  1. Toronto FC are running a contest right now to find someone for the "Dream Job" The job in question is someone to be the "face of the club" and travel with the team to games, conduct player interviews for TV and Web and generally become the media darling for the fans. The first round is over and no, I did not enter - there were far better candidates, but one of my friends, and a total diehard supporter is in the running. Bobby is the "capo" at the front of the supporters section and leads the chants at every home game .... He buys his season ticket like everyone else, but unlike everyone else, when the game starts, he turns his back on the product he paid to watch, and instead choreographs and encourages the supporters to make some noise !!! If there ever was a 12th man, he is it ! The problem, as with most competitions, is that some of the others are ringers with no affiliation to the team, and who are not "real" supporters but are applying hoping that they get it as part of their media degrees .... 5 of the finalists come from the University of Windsor about 2-3 hours drive west of Toronto (right next to Detroit) and one of them even thought the "Skydome" (or Rogers Centre as its officially known now) was actually BMO Field !!!! They are getting loads of votes as they encourage fellow students to vote for them for the position so I am now asking the same from my Facebook, Twitter and ICT/CTO friends ...... if you are willing, please go to the link below and vote for Bobby Brasz !!!!! Here are his promo videos created by fellow supporters (his voice is croaky as he had just led the chants at the TFC -V- LA Galaxy game the night before and unlike the other candidates, he did not take advantage of, or boast on twitter about, the free passes and VIP treatment that was offered) and here is a bang on the money article from a well known local journalist http://www.canadians....php?2935-Bobby Bobby deserves this job !!!! You should be able to vote here (sorry, no direct link as I cant access Facebook at work): http://bit.ly/z7m1Cn this link should work i think: https://apps.faceboo...oteable_entries
  2. no problem with them groundsharing ..... we would not have got into the SPL if it wasnt for Aberdeen agreeing to it and we should be amenable to returning the favour to another team .... even County ! I can see the logic behind the March 31st deadline but realistically its a crock of **** . Most seasons, where there is no runaway leader, it can put teams under a lot of pressure to spend money they perhaps dont have to upgrade their stadium on the off-chance that they win the league. I have always maintained that the team that wins the 1st division should be guaranteed promotion, regardless of their ground facilities. They should be given two options. (1) upgrade their ground before the start of the season as County hope to do and be able to use all parts of it in the SPL, or (2) upgrade by the end of the first SPL season, and only use those parts that meet the all-seated criteria. This would allow teams to use the increased revenue from the SPL to pay for ground improvements and maybe prevent some potentially horrible financial problems.
  3. Deepest and sincere condolences from myself and from Christe to Laura and family. Was shocked when I heard this yesterday and still really cant find the right words .... Its always the good ones that are taken too soon !

Football is a roller-coaster ride ..... and for most of us that don't support perpetually successful teams, this should be the design of our stadiums !
  5. Stefan Frei - GK: a bit like Esson and under-rated by many including his country (in this case Switzerland), one of the best shotstoppers in the league. Like ICT, TFC also have a good understudy occupying the Jonny Tuffey position. Milos Kocic plays in most cup games (sound familiar?). Torsten Frings - Former captain of Germany and the current TFC captain. Since he arrived, the midfield now has a general and even at 35 he still covers every blade of grass during a game. Hugely important player for the club this season. Julian DeGuzman - Canadian International, designated player, playing better now since Frings came along as all the expectations are no longer on him to produce something all the time. Richard Eckersley !!! - A loan signing last year from Burnley who has now made his move permanent. Great fan favourite despite being a bit raw. Solid, reasonably skillful for a right back and scared of nothing. also a 'ginger' Danny Koevermans - former Dutch international who was scoring an average of a 2 goals every 3 games when he arrived last season along with Frings. Going to be very important player this year especially as coach Aron Winter has filled out the squad with quite a few skillful youngsters who will be looking to shine under his (and Frings') mentorship. Jaoa Plata - Another loan signing from last year who has now signed a permanent contract. 19 year old Ecuadorian international who is just under 5' tall .... but like many small players, he is (or was) underestimated by the opposition. He's a flying winger who can make things happen when he gets the ball and always delivers excitement ..... There are also a lot of exciting younger players in the squad and its possible that one or more of them may breakout this year and shine .... just 5 years after forming the TFC Academy, there are already 6 graduates in the first team squad .... and they are there entirely on merit !!! Doneil Henry, Oscar Cordon, Nick Lindsay, Keith Makubuya, Ashtone Morgan, Matt Stinson ... 3 of them already capped for Canada at either U21 or full level.
  6. yeah .... pretty standard at any sporting event over here ... prices of beer and food are through the roof ..... Beer = about $2.50 - $3.00 a can in the "beer store", about $6 - $7 a pint in the pub ..... and anything from $9 - $13 for a full sized can at the games ... after many years of not having been able to enjoy a beer during games it makes it easy for me to do my drinking before and after !!!!

  8. Own Golobart makes a point Roman Golobart scored a fabulous goal full of Spanish flair to lift the doom and gloom at the Caledonian Stadium and earn a point for Kilmarnock. Unfortunately the fabulous goal was at the wrong end as he chipped a ball high into Esson's goal just like Messi. He also earned a point for Inverness after bundling home a ball on the goal line to deservedly give Inverness a share of the points, no more than they deserved. A rare sighting at Inverness yesterday, Sam Winnall made a start to help out Billy McKay in attack with Hayes out with a hamstring injury, and the injured Kenny Gillet being replaced by Graeme Shinnie at left back. Kenny Shiels rested some players with the League Cup final looming next weekend and started with Heffernan and Fowler on the bench. It was a lively start to the game for the new front pairing as they darted around in sprightly fashion and McKay offloaded a shot inside two minutes, but like most of todays twenty odd attempts it was off target. Winnall made Bell earn his crust as he scampered into the box and fired one goalwards after McKay was upended, this time on target but Bell saved well diverting the ball for a corner. What were Killie doing while we were trying to attack their goal; well nothing really. We were dominating the game while managing to look toothless up front, but the effort was there, well it was until Gnakpa came on later in the game. Tansey forced Bell into another top drawer save as he managed to get one low enough to make the keeper work. That was a bit of a rarity as well, a Tansey shot on target, but normal service would be resumed as Tade fired one high over when well placed. Killie did manage a corner as they ventured forth but no damage to the home rearguard as Esson cleared the danger with a couple of swift left hooks. Then, with half an hour gone, we conceded an own Golobart. Classy young Spaniard Roman Golobart in attempting to clear a Harkins centre lifted the ball into the roof of Esson's net in spectacular fashion from ten yards. He appeared to be caught in three minds, neither heading clear, hoofing over the bar or knocking back to Esson, he simply did the difficult thing and put the ball where Esson could not reach it, right in the top corner. Stunning! Messi eat yer heart out. This was against the run of play, where have I heard this before. Tade managed one on target before Tansey shot over, high and wide. I see a pattern forming here, a sort of one on, one off..... The hard working Richie Foran blocked a Silva effort as the game flow levelled out and before the break Golobart tried to make amends but his shot was mistimed and Bell collected comfortably. Half Time 0-1 (ouch) Second half started like the first, early effort from Sutherland this time going well over. Tansey narrowly missed the target as he dragged a low shot just wide of Bell's right hand post from the edge of the box. Golobart and Bell clashed going for a fifty fifty ball and Bell took some time out for a knock with the referee mysteriously awarding a free kick for the sliding challenge. Tade put one on, one off as we forced the pace of the game but the breakthrough looked like being always out of reach. Killie were being pushed onto the back foot and little was seen of their attacking intent. Winnall was next to miss the eight yard wide target and that was about it on his first start which had begun promisingly. A baffling substitution then raised a few hackles when Gnakpa replaced the industrious Tade, or should that be industrial. Not a popular decision as would become evident by Gnakpa's lack of interest in the proceedings, and Ross replaced the unfortunate Sam, this change proved more worthwhile as Ross was able to hold the ball and find players with his tight passing. Tom, Dick and Harry were having a go now, as Meekings and Sutherland shot high and wide again. It looked as though it was not going to be our day as Foran did well to burst into the box, unfortunately his clipped shot was blocked brilliantly by Bell and Foran knew he should have done better. With time running out and luck on the visitors side, up popped Roman at the right end to knock home the equaliser after McKay had knocked the ball goalwards. Olé. The move had began with some good Inverness pressure and when the ball came back to Sutherland on the right wing he whipped an excellent ball into the box and Richie Foran acrobatically volleyed the ball goalwards, Cammy Bell made a tremendous reflex save before McKay nodded it into the feet of the Spaniard. Relief all round and still time for a winner. However, instead of settling us down, we started to get jittery and Kilmarnock suddenly woke up. They produced a series of corners in a frenetic finish to the game but in fairness, we held firm and Esson eventually had some work to do as he saved from Nelson. It was squeaky bum time now, but the ball was kept out and the game slipped into full time. Full Time 1-1 Strange game to assess as every fan at the game saw a different picture. It was entertaining enough without setting the heather on fire and but for squandering numerous chances that came our way we should have won in style. But that's not the Inverness way just now and a point each it was. Despite scoring an own goal, Roman Golobart was my MotM and showed great confidence to come back from his first goal to eventually force home the equaliser. Richie Foran ran himself to a standstill, unable to run near the end and Shinnie, Meekings and McKay tried their best. The one downside today was our inability to hit a target than stands eight yards wide and eight feet tall in old money. What do we practice? Cammy Bell was probably deserving of the games MotM as he made a few excellent stops to keep the score down. One further pat on the back goes to the nurse who entertained the North Stand. 13. Wasnt a league match, it was the first leg of the quarter final of the CONCACAF Champions League. As CD mentioned above, its basically North and Central American version of UEFA so like UEFA, refs come from one of the member countries ... and he was a beezer !
  14. I fall into the neither satisfied or dissatisfied camp too !!! We are in 10th spot, selections, performances and tactics have been questionable in some games, and we perhaps could and should have had more points if that was addressed. However, this season has been like no other in terms of injury so the manager rarely, if ever, has been able to field what is the strongest 11 in his mind. I am also mindful of the fact that his "presence" in terms of PR and motivation is a positive factor for our club ... and that is demonstrable ... On more than one occasion in the recent past, ICT has been mentioned in football conversations by me on this side of the pond, and even if the person has not heard of the club, they most certainly have heard of the manager and the opinion from those that didnt know anything of the SPL was "oh, you must be quite a big team then if an England legend is your manager!!!" The report card says "must do better", but its not time to make him stand in the corner with a big conical hat on just yet !!!
  15. ... no, not really. I was there though and the atmosphere was great !!!! 47,000+ fans, loads of noise and the prospect of a (unexpected) victory against the current MLS Champions and Supporters Shield winners who had Beckham, Donovan, Juninho, and Robbie Keane in their starting lineup ... especially when we went 2-0 up within 17 minutes ..... The beer can thing was blown out of proportion ... 1 can, 47,000 fans ... surprised there wasnt more (there probably was, but at $13 a can, perhaps not as many as you might think). Only downer of the night was that douchebag Donovan scoring right at the death, from the corner that Beckham took just after the can incident. Other than that TFC played really well and matched the champs all over the park. Aron Winter strayed from his usual 4-3-3 formation and went 3-4-3 on the night with Torsten Frings playing deep as an extra defender at times ... a very fluid system that took LA by the scruff of the neck initially but settled down into a tactical battle after that. Beckham had a decent game overall, but like the SPL, the talking point was some of the referee decisions. The ref was from Jamaica and like a lot of CONCACAF refs was not up to the task. you can see my gallery from the game at: http://tfcpics.com/index.php?/gallery/album/227-2012ccl1-tfc-v-los-angeles/
  16. Just watched the highlights as I was processing them for the official site .... I guess its easier to watch 5 minutes of condensed crap than 90 minutes of complete mince ... 1st goal - Blame: Foran (with an assist to Gillet and Esson). Gillet opts to play it back to Esson rather than go forward, Esson has a woeful kickout, and Foran's half-hearted up and under followed up by a non-challenge leaves Rankin clear. He took it well though. 2nd goal - Blame: Tansey/Esson. Daly wins a header against Tokely from a long Flood free kick into the box and flicks it into the path of Robertson. Tansey was covering Robertson but he was miles away and although he seemed to not get a clean touch to it, Esson was rooted to the spot as it slowly crept in ... looks like he thought it was going wide. 3rd goal - Blame: Johnny Russell !!! - nice bit of skill turning 4 men inside out inside the box and shooting past Esson. A couple of half hearted attempts at tackles, but most likely those players thought a tackle = penalty and possibly a booking or even a red card if it was Golobart or Meekings. As disappointing as it is, Dundee Utd are one of the form sides right now and if I am honest, I hoped for something from this game but didnt expect it. The more worrying thing is the manner of defeat ... 11 goals shipped in the last 5 games, 7 in the last two, and only two scored in 5 games. The defence is a nightmare. Good individuals perhaps, but for a mixture of reasons none of them have played together long enough to form a real partnership or understanding. I can understand the need to chop and change when injuries happen, you have no choice, but we have had 28 league games this season and probably almost as many defensive combinations .... in fact I am sure I heard TB comment something along those lines on the BBC a few weeks back. In midfield we have some skill, experience and guile with Hayes, Foran etc (when he can be bothered) but we are lacking a "general". Based on (early) performances, I had hoped that Cox would fill that role, or maybe even Tansey, but it is clear we dont have anyone to do it ... Will a fully fit Tudur-Jones be able to step up to that role ? If so, he could be important in the run-in. Up front, it seems that Tade works hard, and the highlights show a couple of good efforts from him to setup McKay but neither of them are comparable to Adam Rooney or other prolific scorers we have had over the years. I have to wonder why Winnall doesnt get a game if the others are misfiring? Will take the word of those watching a full 90 minutes each week when it comes to overall tactics as its impossible to form an proper opinion based on radio commentary or 5 minutes of video highlights .... but we need to do something to turn this trend around ..... Not calling for TB's head, I still believe in him, but we do need more tactics and less soundbites as the season winds down .... How ignominious would it be next season if County came up and at the end of 12/13 WE were the team relegated as we hadnt sorted out our tactics !!!! We have only finished below County once in our history and have never been in a league below them ever .... the manager that achieves this dubious milestone will not fare well !
  17. Agree with 'sorted' .... to an extent. He likely has something lined up, and being a 'free agent' quite possibly a signing on fee that will lessen the blow of his lack of settlement. However, the mere fact that him going (quietly) and not demanding a package, which he is entitled to whether he gets it or not, might actually save someone on the non-playing side from redundancy is admirable. Ally did the same PR move last week when he insisted he would work for free and not take the rest of his £1m salary for the remainder of the season.
  18. OH how I hate weekday night games !!!! at work, no streaming audio, having to rely on Twitter / BBC Text / SkySports Live Text etc ... and very few on the site cos the game's on TV !!!
  19. United canter home against cart horses Dundee United once more emphasised the gulf in class between these two sides as they strolled to victory against a clueless and punchless Inverness Caledonian Thistle. There appeared to be little between the sides in the opening exchanges, but that all turned when a looping John Rankin effort found the top corner and Inverness reverted to type after that. Scott Robertson shouldered home a second before tormentor in chief Johnny Russell scored a sublime third to end the contest with twelve minutes remaining. Another defeat for Inverness and Terry Butcher must be wondering if he has anything left in the tank to offer his struggling outfit. I doubt many of the Inverness supporters expected much from this match, but it's still disappointing to be proved right and the alarming rate that we are shipping goals must be of some concern to the Caley Jags management. Of equal concern is our inability to fashion any clear scoring opportunities and we looked as though we could have played for a fortnight without seriously troubling Pernis in the United goal. We must be a joy for any opposition defence to play against given our lack of aggression in front of goal. Terry Butcher thrust a hastily repaired Roman Golobart back into central defence and his partner tonight was none other than Ross Tokely with Proctor and Williams on the bench alongside Graeme Shinnie. Jonny Hayes was nowhere to be seen and Shane Sutherland started, with McKay the lone striker and Gnakpa and Winnall on the bench with Tudur-Jones. Hayes apparently tweaked a hamstring last week but should not be out for long..........hopefully. United were a more settled side with goal threats all over the park and twin tormentors Jonny Russell and Gary Mackay-Steven leading the charge with big Jon Daly. They had a defence but they could have enjoyed this game from the stand as a powderpuff Inverness attack failed to carve out any serious goal threats although the stats will show a number of attempts on target, but none troubling Dusan Pernis in goal. I can't stomach much more of this drivel tonight and Ginger Jaggy can continue the report when he settles down.............. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Two weeks and two tales of woe in which Caley Thistle’s upward momentum has well and truly been clipped as we suddenly look over our shoulder. A win over Kilmarnock on Saturday in our game in hand will almost guarantee safety but our performance levels have nose-dived since the back end of January and Monday night saw this continue to deteriorate against a classy Dundee United side. We have to be thankful that Dunfermline have been poor all season otherwise we may not be looking backwards with any comfort. The game was a resounding victory for the Arabs and it could have been more had it not been for some decent stops by Ryan Esson. We do have good players and we are missing some key players but we are still lacking an out and out striker – some have queried why we haven’t tried Sam Winnall? Caley Thistle went into this game without Jonny Hayes who may have been off the pace in our last couple of games but we certainly missed him in this one. We lacked drive and quality with very little creativity. Terry Butcher would have been pleased by the opening of the game with Dundee United finding it hard to get the ball down and dictate the play with their excellent passing game. Unfortunately all that work was undone after a quarter of an hour from a comedy of errors at the back. First Kenny Gillet played a needless pass back to Esson who in turn made a poor clearance which fell to Richie Foran in midfield. His poor control allowed Ex Caley Thistle midfielder John Rankin to nip the ball away and hit a trademark long range strike which nestled into the top corner of Essons net. Great strike but shoddy play from the visitors. Inverness did create chances with Shane Sutherland blasting over from a good position in the penalty box. Then came our best chance when Billy McKay showed some tenacity in the box to win the ball and put a shot in that was well blocked by Dusan Pernis. The game continued to be hard fought but without Hayes, a lack of an outlet was very observant for every Inverness fan. Instead it was long balls with McKay and Tade barely winning any balls against Gavin Gunning and Sean Dillon. It was almost 2-0 before half time when danger man Johnny Russell was able to use his pace to get into the box and was only denied by an excellent full length save by Esson. Overall Inverness had held Dundee United well and had it not been for a lack of concentration on three fronts then it may well have been level at half time. But the downside was that we looked as dangerous as a mouse. Half-Time 1-0 The second half started as the first had finished with United in the ascendancy. This tale does have a common theme. The theme was poor defending and this again reared its head just five minutes into the second half. A free kick from Willo Flood was won by Jon Daly who had climbed above Ross Tokely, and his knock back found it's way to Scott Robertson who unmarked headed the ball into the bottom of the net. It was such a sloppy goal to concede with Daly dominating the penalty area and Robertson finding the freedom of Dundee to nod home untidily. Bizarrely going further behind stung us into some action. Claude Gnakpa came on for Nick Ross and his introduction definitely improved Inverness. Ross moments before going off was inches from an equaliser from a Sutherland Free Kick. The ball was definitely an improvement from the first half. It could have got worse when Esson dropped an easy catch, the goalkeeper watched on in relief when an off balance Daly stabbed the ball over. After that it was all Inverness for a 10-15 minute spell where some great chances had been made. Sutherland shot wide while Greg Tansey hit two decent shots that were comfortable for the Polish goalkeeper. But the golden chances fell first to Roman Golabart who headed wide when McKay was in a better position just behind him. Two minutes later McKay should have done better when he got himself into the box and hit a shot that looped over the bar at the near post. A better finish was needed and it summed up our night and season as a whole. Claude Gnakpa did bring out a save from Pernis but Caley Thistle could have played all night and not have scored. There was still time for Russell to score the goal of the game even if the challenges were a little half hearted. The pacey front man received the ball from a Daly centre and he used great agility to get away from three or four defenders to finish coolly past Esson. After that the game petered out with United sitting comfortably 3-0 ahead. Full Time 3-0 That was the way the game finished and it highlighted a major gulf in class. The game was fairly even for the whole of the first half but the quality of delivery into the box was light-years between the teams. When Inverness did play along the deck and improved the crossing it was no surprise that we dominated for 10-15 minutes creating some real good chances, but our attempts at finishing were timid. We were already 2-0 down by then and on final reflections it was a majorly disappointing performance, not taking anything away from in form Dundee United. 5th March 2012 Scottish Premier League Tannadice Stadium, Dundee Dundee Utd 3 - Rankin (15), Robertson (52), Russell (78) /media/images/club_badges/dundeeutd.png TEAM: Pernis, Neilson, Dillon, Gunning, Dixon, Flood, Robertson, Rankin, Mackay-Steven (Armstrong 77), Daly (Lacny 80), Russell (Ryan 80) SUBS: Banks, Kenneth, Douglas, Dow Booked: Ryan (84) Sent Off: none Inverness C.T. 0 - /media/images/club_badges/inverness.png TEAM: Esson, Meekings, Tokely, Golobart, Gillet, Tade, Sutherland, Tansey, Ross (Gnakpa 66), Foran, McKay (Tudur-Jones 76) SUBS: Tuffey, Proctor, G.Shinnie, Williams, Winnall Booked: Golobart (37), Foran (52), Tansey (62), Meekings (82) Sent Off: none Referee Alan Muir Attendance 5994

If you make an error, let us know so we can fix it. PLEASE ONLY VOTE ABOVE IF YOU WERE AT THE GAME Anyone caught trying to cheat the system WILL be banned from voting in ALL site polls...this is your only warning. **NEW OPTION for those NOT at the game** & THIS INCLUDES THOSE WATCHING AT SOCIAL CLUB As a result of requests received, we have made a slight change to how these threads work for site users who watched the game on TV or listened to the full game live on the radio ....... You too will now be able to cast your votes, but should do it in the thread below, and NOT in the official poll above. Just list the three players of your choosing and award 5,3, or 1 point(s). You can give the ref a mark if you want too ! These votes will NOT be counted in the official total, as we only count votes from those who where actually at the game, but it IS a way for you to participate in the process .... which many people asked for .... a happy medium we hope !!!!!
  22. I believe Hibs TV is similarly biased .... and whats more, if the media team ever get it to the stage where ICT TV is showing games live with our own internal commentary team, we will be just as biased too !
