Hypothetical Manager's Dilemma
Happy enough to leave the decision to ex-Motherwell manager Terry Butcher. both keepers are decent enough to start so no problem with whoever he chooses.

Pitch Invasion Anyone?
not a good idea ! pitch invasions can lead to fines !!! Its usually overlooked if you have just won the league (in lower divisions) but considering we got a rather large rap on the knuckles from the SPL on each of a couple of occasions it has happened since we have been in the SPL, and that was just a few fans, I would say its a no-no ........ I would also draw your attention to the following: http://www.ictfc.premiumtv.co.uk/staticFil...7~101806,00.pdf Pitch Incursion: You could be looking at ejection if you are lucky, or a warning, or anything from a 3,6, or 12 month ban right up to a lifetime ban depending on how hard they want to nail you .... which will likely depend on how hard they get nailed by the SPL !!! just dont say you werent warned about the consequences !!!

Ross Tokely
Not sure Ross is under-rated, we have had the avatars showing him as Superman, the anecdotes replacing Chuck Norris with Rossco, and no end of compliments about him over the years. If anything, he has at times been over-rated in that respect !!! Having said that, I totally agree that Ross is a club legend who should go into the official hall of fame as soon as he is eligible. He has played in every division with ICT, been written off by many each time we stepped up a division, only to step up himself, and must be one of very few (if any) players in the modern game who has racked up nearly 500 appearances for a single club. He's not the quickest, he's not the silkiest (although he does have his moments), but he is one thing and that is 100% dedicated to the cause and 100% ICT. Stat Watch: If he plays on Sunday that will be his 399th League appearance (478 total inc Cup). His 400th league appearance should be at Fir Park.

Fortress Longman
I was going to say "CaleyDen" in honour of our very own English Butcher leading the troops again (at least its the home ones this time !) but it doesnt sound too good ..... How about "Fortress on the Firth" or the Tokely Dome :thumb04: .... or maybe, as teams should (and hopefully will) hate playing us here ... simply "The House of Pain" ... it was certainly that for fans during the Brewster era, and hopefully TB can make it like that for the opposition teams again. time for a coffee

Butcher: 100 Days In
I backed Robbo for the job, and still think he could have turned us around. Some may argue with that, but none of us will ever know for sure as he didnt get the job. I also spoke highly of Terry Butcher before he was given the job as I was an admirer of how he handled things when he was at Motherwell. He steadied them in their time of need, and in the next couple of seasons developed them further. His first 100 days at ICT have exceeded my expectations if I am honest. We all knew that the players could do it, but for whatever reason(s), under Brewster that was not happening. Terry (and Maurice) have come in, restored that belief, put some smiles back on faces (players and fans alike), and have "steadied" us just as he and MM did with Motherwell. Assuming we stay up, and assuming we can keep some of the players who are only contracted to the end of the season, I look forward to him "developing" us in the same way he developed Motherwell. I just hope he doesnt f*** off to Australia like he did half way through that job at Fir Park though !!!

We Need A Hardman
I think the distinction needs to be made between 'hardman' and 'thugs' or 'wanabees' In my opinion, players like Tokely, Cherry, & Mann to name a few from ICT or Yogi Hughes, Terry Butcher & Roy Aitken to name a few older players now in management would be classed as 'hardmen'. They tackled hard, and mostly fair, got on with the game and didnt complain much if they were on the receiving end of a tackle. On the other hand, players like Barton and others are just thugs .... others are just wanabees who act it out on the park when dishing it out but cant take it. The two links below are to articles by Kenny Clark and are quite interesting. The first is ostensibly about Ronaldo cheating and mentions how hard it is to ref certain players. The other is about Hughes slagging off refs and has a paragraph in it that epitomises his spirit as a 'hardman'. http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/ho...icle2261907.ece http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/ho...icle2144854.ece

If we can get decent pics of them all, we will tidy up the page a bit more and look to add this type of picture to our history section ......

if we get it complete (ie pictures from each year) we will certainly update it .... feel free (anyone) to add pictures of the missing strips in this thread if we do get it complete, we will possibly try to integrate a picture of all the strips into our clubguide alongside the history sections.

Black For Scotland
If moves are afoot behind the scenes to try and persuade him to stay then bravo to all concerned. I dont think they will work, but I can see the logic in what IHE has just said. There is no way we can match what Hearts will offer in terms of size of the club or in wages, but with banks folding all over the place just how stable are Vlad's assets ? IHE has touched on one other important point I have been thinking about though - and not just in terms of Blackie - and that is that Terry B may prove to be far more of an incentive for players to come here than any previous managers both in terms of his profile in the game and the fact that players in his team have far more opportunity to impress one of the Scotland coaches as they will be watched every single week. At the end of the day Blackie's future will come down to the player himself. Personally, I will respect whichever decision he makes - even if it is the one he has already publicly declared ! If he goes to Hearts, he will have my thanks as a player who was good for ICT and who played a big part this season in keeping us up (in the same way Dods performed when knowing he was moving on at the end of the season). If he stays - which I think is highly doubtful but would be a superb pressie for us all - he will instantly become an ICT legend (or more of one for those who already give him that status).

Ross Tokely
I get the feeling that TB is a big fan of Rossco !!! You dont usually get all sarcastic/tongue-in-cheek about someone you dont like and I have read this comment a few times over the weekend. Sounds like Big Tel thinks that Tokes is his kind of defender. http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.a...199177?UserKey=

Norwich City, And Football's Situation
Wow, this might be some debate ........ and one that might convince me one way or the other as I really dont know what the answer is - save for the fact that football in general needs some form of shakeup. Football should be about entertainment and you are right, it should also be about the tribalism of supporting your local side. However, simply speaking it is not and has not been for a long time. It is a business and the little guys (fans) are getting the raw deal most of the time. We are probably quite lucky as ICT fans. We follow one of the smaller teams and it seems that the bigger the team, the more impersonal it is and the more it shafts its "customers". We have the odd issue with ICT that we moan about but we are not getting the shaft nearly as much or as often as some other fans. I am not sure whether a salary cap or transfer cap is the right thing as it would have to be something that was done globally through FIFA or at least regionally through UEFA and the rich leagues like the EPL will simply not stand for it. It could certainly be done in the SPL and being realistic it would affect two, or maybe three teams the most (OF + Hearts) ... but if the SPL did it unilaterally, all that it would mean is that players who would have gone to the OF would simply go elsewhere and the fans would see a lesser rather than a better product .... We already have (or have always seen) a drain to England for up and coming players or for those that use the SPL as a stepping stone to the premiership, but if any league does it unilaterally then top players, or even mediocre but high priced players, would simply ignore that league completely. I can see the business argument and it has some validity, but lets look at ICT. We are a small team with the smallest, or near smallest budget in the SPL. If a cap were to come into force then we would likely not be affected in the slightest. We would still struggle year-on-year to balance the books by hoping for a decent cup run, we would still attract the same players, and we would still get the same small-ish crowds. If a glory-hunting OF fan stops following their team because of a salary cap, they are more likely to go follow Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal etc than an alternative team in the SPL .... especially as you could theoretically get to Manchester or London relatively easily to watch them from time to time. OK, so now that I have disagreed with transfer caps and salary caps, let me put my Toronto FC supporting hat on and speak of a league where there are several levels of 'capping' !!! The MLS has one of the most complicated "roster" systems going and I will be quite honest in saying I dont understand it fully but it seems to work !!! The bottom line is that there are rules in place that dictate what the salary cap is for each team (it is the same), and how many players can be in your squad and what type of players they can be (developmental, international, senior international, domestic, 'designated player' etc). As the league own all the players contracts, internal transfers are done by way of trades, either by swapping players with another team, or by giving away (or receiving) 'draft picks' from the next MLS draft. You can also swap roster spots to gain extra slots for senior internationals, DPs etc. External transfers (like Edu from TFC to Rangers) are agreed by the MLS team and then handled through the league itself. Toronto got 2/3 of the $3.5m from the Edu transfer but can only use about $1m as 'allocation money' which can be used within their wage structure, with the rest having to be used for "football business" such as community development, or the TFC youth academy. In reality, much like the NFL, Baseball or Hockey, the system is designed so that the crappest teams get the first choice of up and coming youngsters in an effort to quite literally "level the playing field", and due to the salary cap, no-one can really top what they are offering. If the crap team wants to keep their slot, they can, but they could also trade it away to another team and get instant results by transferring a player in. Teams can also bring in a designated player (like Beckham) and have only a portion of his salary assigned against the salary cap ... allowing him to make an obscene amount of money only $400K of which counts against their total salary cap. As i mentioned above, some of it is insanely complicated - I havent gone into any real detail - but it does tend to work to a degree. The MLS method is the reason I am somewhat on the fence. The rules are complicated but seem to have an equalising effect but then again, the MLS does not have relegation/promotion so that is something else to consider when trying to level the playing field for teams in Scotland ...... the worst team should go down on its own merit ... so if the league rules have made you the worst team, can you justify relegation and claim it was merit ?

Matchday Thread: St Mirren -v- Ict
Watched the TV highlights this morning and that put a smile on my face. Dodgy first goal, but must have been over the line or the Midden players would have complained long and hard. As for Tokely's goal, a beauty ! Commentator said he was a bit clumsy but what I saw was someone - a defender - who managed to control it, take a touch and then fire it through a ruck of players into the net. absolutely superb .... especially against that mob. Had a good laugh at the thread on B&W too ... Buddieup and HSS seem to have given us a little credit buddieup: How much time did Tokely get to score? He is a defender and still managed to control it and used time to pick his spot. Disgraceful....... To be fair, I'm going to give a special mention to the ICT fans. That wee group sang their heart out for 90 minutes. Even though I'm gutted and angry about the result as anyone, their team deserved to win and it was nice to see at least one group of genuine fans go home happy. HSS: As much as I hate that p**** Tokely I have to say he had a great game but BobbyF is a little bitter BobbyF: Annoying that Black was there to clear the ball off the line when he should have been sent off 20 minutes earlier. The tackle he got the yellow for in the first half was a shocket. But several pieces of dissent and time-wasting (once kicking the ball 50 yards away right in front of the ref) all went unpunished. Couldn't believe Imrie's cheating and play acting. I knew ICT were thugs (nice stamp on the keeper by Tokely - ignored by Conroy of course), but don't remember them having quite so many cheats.

just for information .... you can get all these sorts of things by choosing the relevant option from the main menu at the top ... there are other parts of this site than just the forum ...... http://stats.caleythistleonline.com/index.php will give you the squad list and you can click on any player to see their stats (accurate from 2004 onwards - still to add previous seasons). This would have told you that Rossco's last goal before this game was on 27th December and it was against Motherwell as another poster mentioned. He also got booked in that game. His last yellow was against Aberdeen so thats the only one since Butcher took over. If you look up Grant, it will show you he scored twice this season ... against the Midden and in Feb against Motherwell (different game than Rossco) going to http://stats.caleythistleonline.com/matches.php will show you the fixture list and after the game, will show you the match stats. and http://stats.caleythistleonline.com/tpl/index.php will show you the full league table !

thread moved from rumour mill to non-ict as it is not a rumour about a player coming to ICT it is a wishlist of players who currently have no affiliation to ICT and therefore a non-ict topic.

Black For Scotland
If there is a possibility of changing his mind by making him a decent offer (that we can justify and afford) then I am all for it but sadly I think it will not happen. As for his Scotland'B' call-up, if true, then it is well deserved and hopefully he will do well. He is a far more mature player now than the hothead who got sent off in his last outing for the B Team.
